ART PISPALA 2022

 

Viime vuonna 2021 Art Pispala-gallerian perinteinen tammikuun naivisminäyttely jäi koronapandemian takia järjestämättä. Mutta nyt yritetään pandemiasta huolimatta uudelleen. Tammikuussa 2022 sunnuntaista 2.1. alkaen Art Pispalassa on taas seinät täynnä naivismia. Ripustus on auki kehystämön aukiolo-aikoina. Sain pari kuvaa ripustuksesta Art Pispalasta Sesse Niemiseltä. Oma seinämäni on vielä hiukan laajentunut vasemmallekin ja vieressä ovat  Aimo Vuorisen värikkäät maalaukset.

Last year 2021 the traditional January´s  Naïve Art exhibition at gallery Art PIspala was not organized due to the Covis19 pandemic. But now there is a new try again despite of the pandemic. In January 2022 beginning at 2nd of January the walls at Art Pispala are again full of Naïve Art. The hanging is open at the opening hours of the framing shop. I got a couple of photos from Sesse Nieminen at Art Pispala. My own wall seems to have expanded even to the left, and next to my works there are Aimo Vuorinen´s colourful paintings.

PUNAINEN PISPALAN HAULITORNI ILMAN RANTOJA / RED PISPALA SHOT TOWER WITHOUT SHORES

 

Vedostin yhden linopiirroksen punaisesta Pispalan haulitornista ilman Näsijärven rantoja. Tilaa jäi näin enemmän pastellitaivaalle. Taivaalle ilmestyivät nyt myös pienet linopiirroslinnut ja hopeinen kuu. Taivaalla on dramaattinen keltainen kajo.

I printed one of linocuts of red Pispala shot tower without the shores of Näsijärvi. So I got more space for the pastel sky. There are now in the sky also small linocut birds and a silvery moon. There is a dramatic yellow sunrise or sundown in the sky.

PUNAISIA PISPALAN HAULITORNEJA / RED PISPALA SHOT TOWERS

Punaisia Pispalan haulitorneja linopiirroksina on kyselty silloin tällöin ja nyt sain aikaiseksi muutaman uuden haulitornin punaisena vedostuksena. Kahteen näistä lisäsin jo pastelliväreillä sinisen tummahkon yötaivaan. Kuut on vedostettuja pieniä linopaloja. Toisessa on kuussa sydämenmuotoista kiillettä. Muutama pilvikin ajelehtii taivaalla. Kuvan koko on 30 x 20 cm.

Linocuts of red Pispala shot tower has been asked every now and then, and now I managed to print a few new shot towers as red. I already added to two of them a dark blue night sky with pastel colours. The moons are small pieces of linocut. There is heart-shaped glitter on one of the moons. A few clouds are gliding in the sky. The size is 30 x 20 cm.

LISÄÄ PERHOSIA / MORE BUTTERFLIES

Linopiirroksia perhosista riittää vedostettavaksi pienille 12 x 12 monoprint-taustoille. Osan näistä väritin nyt käsin aika kirkkaiksi.

There is enough of linocuts of butterflies for printing on small 12 x 12 cm  monoprint backgrounds. Some of these I coloured by hand quite bright.

PERHOSIA / BUTTERFLIES

Linopiirroksia perhosista on aika paljon, ja osa niistä on nyt myös vedostettu monoprint-taustalle. Nämäkin ovat kooltaan 12 x 12 cm. Perhosia on tosi kivaa ja meditatiivista kaivertaa, siipien viivoja ja kuvioita erityisesti. Ennen perhosten vedostusta monoprint-pohjat näyttivät aika omituisilta - pitää vaan kuvitella lopputulosta.

I have quite a lot of linocuts of butterflies, and some of them are now printed on monoprint backgrounds. These are also 12 x 12 sized. It´s very nice and meditative to carve butterflies, especially lines and patterns on the wings. Before printing the butterflies monoprint backgrounds looked quite peculiar - you just have to imagine the end result.

 Inge Löökin (s. 1951, oikealta nimeltään Geja Ingeborg Lievonen) joulukortissa joulupukki tai tonttu on juhlatuullella, kuusenkoristekin on kietoutunut lakin ympärille. Kissa näyttää hymyilevän, vaikka tontun kauha on uhkaavasti aikeissa kopauttaa kissaa kuonolle. Olisiko kissa muka varastanut tontun puuroa? Tämä ei ole uskottavaa, sillä tontulla ja kissalla on kummallakin omat sydämin koristetut puurokulhot.

In this postcard by Inge Löök (b. 1951, by her original name Geja Ingeborg Lievonen) Father Christmas or an elf is in a celebratory mood, even a Christmas tree decoration is twisting around his hat. The cat seems to be smiling, even though the ladle of the elf is about to knock the cat on her muzzle. As if the cat could have stole elf´s porridge? This is not credible, because the elf and the cat both have their own heart-patterned porridge bowls. 

KOPPAKUORIAINEN / BEETLE

Linopiirros koppakuoriaisestakin pääsi monoprintille. Nuo pitkät viikset olivatkin sitten aika hankalat vedostettavat. Kuvan koko on 12 x 12 cm.

Even a linocut of a beetle ended up on a monoprint background. Those long whiskers were quite a tricky job to print. The size of the picture is 12 x 12 cm.

ART PISPALA 2022

 Art Pispala -gallerian 10. naivisminäyttely tammikuussa 2022 lähenee. Vietiin  linopiirroksia tähän naivistiseen yhteysnäyttelyyn ja muutama isompi oli jo ehtinyt seinällekin. Näyttely aukeaa 2.1.2022 ja on auki tammikuun loppuun. Tämä tulee taas olemaan tosi runsas näyttely, josta omat työni peittävät yhden kokonaisen ikkunaseinän.

The tenth Naïve Art exhibition at Art Pispala gallery is getting near. We took my linocuts for this Naïve art group exhibition and some of the bigger ones were already on the wall. The exhibition will open at January 2nd, 2022 and is open till the end of January. This will again be a really plentiful exhibition, and my works are on a whole window wall.

Englantilaisen John Nashin (1893-1977) puupiirros vuodelta 1945 on väritetty ja se näyttää pikemminkin maalaukselta. Maailmansota oli loppunut ja taas oli rauha maassa.Täti torkkuu nojatuolissa kissa sylissä ja ikkunalauta on täynnä kukkia kuparipurkeissa. Tunnelma on todella kodikas. Lintu visertelee häkissä ja kukat kukkivat. Pelargonien kirjavat lehdet melkein tuntuvat hiukan karheilta ja mehikasvin raidat toistuvat kissan turkissa. Tädin pienet pyöreät silmälasit nenällä kertaavat hiusten tiukkoja kiharoita.

This coloured woodcut from 1945 by English John Nash (1893-1977) looks more like a painting. The World War was over and there was again peace in the country. An auntie is napping on a armchair with a cat on her lap and the windowsill is full of plants in copper pots. The atmosphere is really cozy. A bird is chirping in its gage and the plants are flowering. The multicoloured geranium leaves can almost be felt rough, and the stripes of a succulent are repeated in the fur of the cat. The small round spectacles on the nose the auntie are iterated in her tiny curls of her hair.

LINTUJA MONOPRINTEILLÄ / BIRDS ON MONOPRINTS

 Muutama lintukin on nyt vedostettu 12 x 12 cm mooiprinttitaustalle. Joihinkin vaaleampiin lisäsin kuvioita llinoleimasimella, lumihiutaleitakin. Ehkä linnuista tunnistaa tiaisen, rastaan ja kolibrin.

Some birds are now printed on 12 x 12 cm sized monoprint backgrounds. I added patterns with lino stamps on a couple of lighter ones. Perhaps you can recognize a great tit, thrush and hummingbird. 

PARI KISSAA LISÄÄ / TWO CATS MORE

 

Pari kissalinoa halusi vielä päästä kellumaan monoprinttitaustalla ja mikäs minä olen kieltämään. Nämä ovat 12 x 12 cm kokoisia. Minulla on nyt aikamoinen pino näitä varastossa ehkä jo ensi kesää varten.

A couple of lino cats still wanted to be allowed to float on monoprint backgrounds, and who an I to deny them. These are 12 x 12 cm. I have now quite a stack of these in my storage perhaps already for the next summer.

KISSOJA MONOPRINTEILLÄ / CATS ON MONOPRINTS

 

Jotkut linopiirroksistani kissoista ovat sen verran isompia, etteivät mahdu 9 x 9 kuvaan. Suurensinkin siis monoprinttitaustani koon  12 x 12 cm kokoiseksi. Tälle uudelle pohjalle vedostin kissalinoja. Osaan lisäsin pieniä leimasinkuvia, linopiirroksia nekin. Yllättävää, miten muutaman sentin suurennus kuvakokoon mahdollistaakin taustan käsittelyn paljon monipuolisemmin.

Some of my linocuts of cats are a bit bigger and they won´t fit on a picture sized 9 x 9 cm.  So I added a few centimetres to my monoprint background size and now it´s 12  x 12 cm. I printed first on this new base some cat linos. I added on some of them small stamp patterns, they are also linocuts. It´s surprising how adding a few centimetres to the picture size makes it possible to work on the background so much more variable.

VIELÄ PIENIÄ LINO/MONOJA / STILL SMALL LINO & MONOS

 

Monenlaisia pieniä linopiirroksia löytyy laatikoista. Niitä on tehty mitä kummallisempiin tarpeisiin, logoiksi tai vinjeteiksi. Nyt niitä voi testailla pienillä 9 x 9 cm kokoisilla monoprinttitaustoilla : lehtiä, lintuja ja jopa linopiirroksiin käytettäviä työvälineitä.

Many kinds of small linocuts can be found in the drawers. I made these for the most peculiar purposes. for logos or vignettes. Now I can test them on small 9 x 9 cm sized monoprint backgrounds: leaves, birds and even tools for making linocuts.

LISÄÄ PIENIÄ KISSOJA / MORE SMALL CATS

Kokeilin monoprinttien ja pienten kissalinojen vedostusta koristepaperille, jota joskus ostin Tallinnasta Zelluloos-kaupasta. Papereissa on hopeaan vivahtavalla pohjalla kauniita vaaleita kuvioita. Luulen, että Paperi on Nepalista. Minusta paperi toimii hyvin kunhan monoprint on aika vaalea eikä tumma tai kirkas kuten alla keskimmäinen.

I experimented printing small cat linos and monoprint backgrounds on a piece of decorative paper, which I bought some years back in Tallinn from Zelluloos shop. The papers have fine silvery hues at the background and light swirling patterns. I think this paper is from Nepal. I think is works ok if you just make the monoprint quite light and not dark or bright like the one in the middle below.

 Kitty Cucumber -kortissa on kissa ja hänen neljä pukuaan ja kaksi hattuaan paperinukkena. Vaatteet näyttävät viktoriaanisilta, röyhelöitä, rusetteja ja kirjontaa. Kussakin asusteessa kissan kädessä on joku esine: pussukka, jojo, omena ja leluhiiri. Yömyssy ja arkivaatteen hattu peittävät korvat. Kengät näyttävät aika kireiltä. Onko kissaneiti edes iloinen tästä vaateleikistä?

Internet-haku kertoo, että Kitty Cucumber (kissahahmo) esiintyi ensi kertaa vuonna 1985  B. Shackman & Company, Inc.-firman julkaisemassa kirjasessa paperinukkehahmona. Tämä yhtiö on myynyt leluja ja painettuja paperimateriaaleja vuodesta 1898. Viktoriaanistyylisen Kitty-nimen keksi yhtiön johtajan tytär lemmikkinukkensa mukaan.

 Kitty Cucumber card has a cat and her four outfits and two hats as cut-out figures. The clothes look Victorian, with ruffles, bows and applications. In every outfit the cat has in her hand an object: a bag, yo-yo, apple and stuffed mouse. The night cat and the hat for the casual dress are covering cat´s ears. The shoes look a bit tight. Is the cat even happy about this dress game?

Kitty Cucumber (a cat character) first appeared in 1985, in a die-cut booklet produced by B. Shackman & Company, Inc. This firm has sold toys and printed materials since 1898. The Victorian-style Kitty's name was invented by the daughter of the president of the company for a favorite doll.
