NAIVISTIT IITTALASSA 2024 - KESÄNÄYTTELY AUKI / SUMMER EXHIBITION OPEN

 

Nyt on kesä ja Naivistit Iittalassa kesän 2024 iso näyttely auki syyskuun alkuun asti. Noin 50 naivistia on mukana näyttelyssä, tuttuja (kuten minäkin) ja uusiakin noin kymmenen. Tänä vuonna juhlitaan näyttelypaikkaa, vanhaa keltaista koulutaloa, joka täyttää 100 vuotta. Näyttelyn julistekuvassa on Marit Björnegranin iloinen maalaus puukoulusta ympärillään juhlakansaa. Moni muukin naivisti on tehnyt kuvan koulurakennuksesta, kuten Tarja Rinta (alla) . Itsekin osallistuin juhlaan tekemällä pariin jo vanhempaan linopiirrokseen pienellä kuvanmuokkauksella keltaiset seinät.Onnea talolle ja sen sisällä olevalle naivistiselle taiteelle!

Now it's summer and Naive Artists in Iittala / Naivistit Iittalassa big exhibition of summer 2024 is open until the beginning of September. About 50 naive artists are participating in the exhibition, familiar ones (like me) and about ten new ones. This year, the exhibition venue, the old yellow schoolhouse, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The poster of the exhibition features Marit Björnegran's cheerful painting of a wooden school surrounded by festive people. Many other naive artists have also made a picture of the school building, such as Tarja Rinta (below). I myself participated in the celebration by making yellow walls in a couple of older lino drawings with a little photo editing. Good luck to the house and the naive art inside it!

Saksalaisen Ernst Ludwig Kirchnerin (1880-1938) maalauksessa vuodelta 1910 nuori nainen - taiteilija Marcella on aika surullisen näköinen, väsynytkin. Hän nojailee sohvan käsinojaan ja lattialla on pari ehkä tyhjää viinapulloa. Se, mikä kuvassa erityisesti viehättää ovat hienon väriset raidat: tytön hameessa, sukissa ja lattiamatossa. Valkoinen kissa on käpertynyt kerälle nukkumaan sohvan kulmaan.

In the painting from 1910 by German artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938),a young woman - artists Marcella looks quite sad, even tired. She is leaning on the sofa's armrest and there are a couple of empty liquor bottles on the floor. What is particularly attractive in the picture are the beautifully colored stripes: on the girl's skirt, socks and floor mat. The white cat is curled up to sleep in the corner of the sofa.

Äitikissa ja pikkukissa ovat lennossa. Ei yhtään pelota! KIssat ovat linopiirros. Taustan monoprinttiin yritin saada pilvien struktuuria tai kevayden tunnelmaa, yhdessä on tumma taivas. Kuvan koko on 15 x 15 cm.

Mother cat and kitten are flying. No fear at all! The cats are a linocut. In the background monoprint, I tried to get the structure of the clouds or a light atmosphere, one with a dark sky.. The size of the picture is 15 x 15 cm.

Kerrassaan mainio uutinen!

Tampereen taidemuseo hankki Tampereen kaupungin kokoelmaan yhdeksän Pispala-linopiirrosta lisää aiemmin hankittujen kolmen lisäksi. Nämäkin linopiirrokset varmaan aikanaan sijoitetaan johonkin Tampereen kaupungin omistamaan tilaan, kouluun, päiväkotiin tai työhuoneisiin. Aiemmin museon hankkimat kolme Pispala-aiheista linopiirrosta sijoitettiin Pispalan uusittuun koulurakennukseen.

Nyt olen siis tusinataitelija, mutta iloinen sellainen!

All in all, this is great news! The Tampere Art Museum acquired nine more Pispala linocuts for the collection of the city of Tampere in addition to the three previously acquired. These lino drawings will probably eventually be placed in a space owned by the city of Tampere, in a school, daycare center or workrooms. The three Pispala-themed linocuts previously acquired by the museum were placed in Pispala's renovated school building.

So now I'm artist by the dozen, but a happy one!

KAKSI KISSAA KEDOLLA / TWO CATS ON A FIELD

 

Kaksi hiukan hölmön näköistä kissaa istuu kedolla. Kissat ja linnut ovat linopiirroksia, tausta on monotypia, jota vedostettaessa kissoille on jätetty tilaa sapluunalla. Aikamoista sotkua saa näilläkin mentelmillä ajoittain. Kuvan koko on 15 x 15 cm.

Two slightly silly-looking cats are sitting on a field. The cats and birds are linocuts, the background is a monotype, which when printed, space for the cats has been left with a stencil. You can get quite a mess with these methods from time to time. The size of the picture is 15 x 15 cm.

KISSA KEDOLLA / CAT ON A FIELD

 

Kokeilin gelli-levyllä monoprintin tekoa kissan taustaksi niin, että värit ovat kirkkaat, sininen ja vihreäö. Linopiirroskissa seisoo vihreällä kedolla. Taivas näyttää melkein sateiselta, mutta sehän on vain kesäsadetta. Kun väriä on aika paksulti, voi kokeilla muoviveitsen terällä kuvioiden tekoa. Kuvan koko on 15 x 15 cm. Tein monoprint-pohjan gelli-levylle 15 x 15 cm sapluunan avulla. Samoin taustaa vedostettaessa laitoin alareunaan sapluunan linopiirroksesta, jolloin sain valkoisen kohdan linopiirroksen vedostusta varten.

I tried making a monoprint on the gelli plate as the background for the cat so that the colors are bright, blue and green. The linocut cat is standing on a green field. The sky looks almost rainy, but it's only summer rain. When the color is quite thick, you can try making patterns with the blade of a plastic knife. The size of the picture is 15 x 15 cm. I made a monoprint base on a gelli plate 15 x 15 cm using a template. Likewise, when printing the background, I put a template from the linocut on the bottom edge, so I got a white area for printing the linocut.

Kortin kuva on Terry DeRoy Gruberin kuvaamasta kirjasta "Working Cats"  (Kissat töissä) vuodelta 1979. Työpaikka kuuluu ehkä meklareille, työvälineet kyllä näyttävät erilaisilta kuin nyt. Kukaan muu ei ole töissä kuin mustavalkoinen kissa J.P. Kortin takana on teksti: "Meillä on toimistossa vitsi siitä, että saamme kaikki vinkkimme J.P.:ltä. The picture on the card is from the book "Working Cats" illustrated by Terry DeRoy Gruber from 1979. The workplace probably belongs to brokers, even though the tools look different than they do now. No one else is at work but the black and white cat J.P. On the back of the card is the text: " We have a joke in the office about getting all our tips from J.P. WE even tell some of our clients that we're neither bullish nor bearish about the market - we are cat-ish."

SYDÄNHÄNNÄT / HEART TAILS

 

Pilkullinen ja raitainen kissa ovat kietoneet hännät yhteen sydämen malliseen kuvioon. Nämä kissat taitavat olla ihan rakastuneita toisiinsa. Kissat ovat linopiirros. Tarkoituksenani oli vedostaa taustalle monoprinttinä vihreä tuuhea metsä. Laitoin pienen männyn oksen gelli-levylle ja vedostin tummemman version sekä pari vaaleampaa "haamua" lisäämättä levylle väriä. Koko tällä on 15 x 15 cm.

One spotted and one striped cat have their tails intertwined in a heart-shaped pattern. These cats seem to be totally in love with each other. The cats are a linocut. My intention was to print a green bushy forest in the background as a monoprint. I put a small pine sprig on a gelli plate and printed a darker version and a couple of lighter "ghosts" without adding color to the plate. The size of this is 15 x 15 cm.

INTERIN KESÄPUOTI AUKI / INTERI'S SUMMER SHOP OPENS

 Tänään 11.5.2024 aukeaa ensimmäinen kesän näyttelyistä tai kesäpuodeista, joissa olen mukana. Interin kesäkauppa Runebergin mökissä Haiharassa on auki! Myös Haiharan kartanon ja Tallin näyttelyt avautuvat, samoin ihana kahvio. Eilen kun pystytettiin myyntipöytiä kaikki oli vielä kiinni, mutta hymyt olivat herkässä Jaana Willalan kanssa. Jaanalla on hallussaan tieto, minne kukin kymmenistä näytteillepanijoista pystyttää pöytänsä sekä salat siitä, miten ripustuskoukut toimivat. Omalla pyödälläni on sekalainen valikoima aika pieniä linopiirroksia sekä kehyksissä että kehystämättöminä, kortteja ja keittiöpyyhkeitä. Innokasta kesän odotusta siis, vaikka vielä Suomen kesä ei parasta lämpöään näytä. Runebergin  mökin kamarissa on taidenäyttelyitä pitkin kesää. Kiinnostava on ainakin Petra Heikkilän näyttely 2.-14.7. "Jokainen eläin on taulun arvoinen".

Today, May 11, 2024, the first of the summer exhibitions or summer shops that I am involved in opens. Interi's summer shop at Runeberg's Cottage in Haihara is open! The Haihara Manor and Talli exhibitions will also open, as will the wonderful cafe. Yesterday, when the sales tables were set up, everything was still closed, but the smiles were bright with Jaana Willala. Jaana has the knowledge of where each of the dozens of exhibitors set up their tables, as well as the secrets of how the hanging hooks work. On my desk I have a mixed selection of quite small lino drawings, both framed and unframed, cards and kitchen towels. Eagerly waiting for the summer, even though the Finnish summer is not showing its best warmth yet. In the chamber of the Runeberg cottage, there are art exhibitions throughout the summer. Petra Heikkilä's exhibition from July 2-14 is at least interesting. "Every animal is worth a painting".

HÄNNÄT SOLMUSSA / TAILS IN A KNOT

 

Kissat ovat kavereita keskenään. Senhän osoittaa jo sekin, että hännät voi vaikka laittaa solmuun. KIssat ovat linopiirros ja tausta monotypia. Käytin taas muoviveistä noiden pilviä muistuttavien kuvioiden tekoon. Tämä kuva on hiukan aiemmin tekemiäni isompi, 15 x 15 cm.

Cats are friends with each other. The fact that you can tie your tails in a knot already shows that. The cats is a linocut and the background is a monotype. I used a plastic knife again to make those cloud-like patterns. This picture is a little bigger than the ones I made before, 15 x 15 cm.

PITSIVERHO / LACE CURTAIN

 

Kokeilin vedostaa kissalinojen taustaksi gelli-levyltä palan pitsiä. Mielenkiintoista. Tätä voisi kehittää hiukan isompien linopiirrostenkin taustaksi, joka näyttää hiukan kuin pitsiverholta. Näiden kuvien koko on vain 12 x 12 cm.

I tried to print a piece of lace from a gelli sheet to the background of the cat linocuts. Interesting. This could be developed as a background for slightly larger linocuts. It looks a bit like a lace curtain. The size of these pictures is only 12 x 12 cm.

ON HYVÄ OLLA KOTONA / IT'S NICE TO BE AT HOME

Tämä on harvinaista herkkua! Sain kuvan teoksestani kotioloissaan. Viime syksynä tein Sarille tämän aika ison linopiirros/pastelli-työn " Siirryyn luoliin sinisiin, on hyvä olla täällä". Ja nyt sain kuvan siitä seinällä. Tosi hienosti sointuvat veden sävyt tuon penkillä lojuvan ison turkoosin pehmonallen kanssa. KIITOS!

This is a rare treat! I got a picture of my work at home. Last fall I made this rather large linocut/pastel work for Sari "Going to the blue caves, it's good to be here". And now I got a picture of it on the wall. The shades of the water harmonize really nicely with that big turquoise plush teddy lying on the bench. THANK YOU!

KISSA LEIJUU SINITAIVAALLA / CAT FLOATING IN BLUE SKY

 

Kissa leijuu sinitaivaalla. Taivas on monotypia ja kissa linopiirros. Välillä lattia täyttyy vedoksista kun tuntuu olevan niin kiire kokeilemaan uutta versiota monoprint-taustaksi.Ei ehtisi millään ripustaa valmiita kuivumaan pyykkitelineelle. Kuvan koko on vain 12 x 12 cm.

The cat is floating in the blue sky. The sky is a monotype and the cat is a linocut. Sometimes the floor is filled with prints when you feel like you are in such a hurry to try out a new version as a monoprint background. There would be no time to hang the ready ones to dry on the clothes rack. The size of the picture is only 12 x 12 cm.

Saksalaisen piirtäjän Axel Frohnin (s. 1951) kuvassa kissa on pulassa. Se roikkuu ohuesta puun oksasta ja puun runkokin on jo katkennut. Viekas lintu isoine nokkineen istuu oksalla ja voi milloin tahansa koputtaa nokallaan kissan tassuihin ja se on menoa. Emme tosin tiedä, miten paljon on matkaa  maahan. Frohnin pointillistinen piirrostyyli tekee kuvasta kevyen.

In the picture by the German cartoonist Axel Frohn (b. 1951), the cat is in trouble. It is hanging from a thin tree branch and the trunk of the tree is already broken. The sly bird with its big beak sits on a branch and can knock the cat's paws with its beak at any time and that's it. However, we don't know how much distance there is to the earth. Frohn's pointillist drawing style makes the picture light.

HERKULES HEITTÄÄ PALLOA / HERCULES THROWING A BALL

 Herkules-kissa ja kuu on aiheena tässä linopiirroksia (kissa, kuu ja taustan järvimaisema) ja monotypiaa  (taivas) yhdistävässä kuvassa. Paljon tavaraa pienessä koossa, 12 x 12 cm. Tarkoitukseni oli tehdä kuva, jossa Herkules nostaa kuuta käsillään. Mutta vedostaessani kuu meni jatkuvasti liian korkealle taivaalla. Mutta kuvahan voi ollakin sellainen, jossa Herkules heittää kuun taivaalle. Taivaan kuviointi on tehty muoviveitsellä.

Hercules the cat and the moon is the subject of this image that combines linocuts (cat, moon and the lake landscape in the background) and monotype (sky). A lot of stuff in a small size, 12 x 12 cm. My intention was to make a picture where Hercules lifts the moon with his hands. But when printed, the moon kept getting too high in the sky. But the picture can also be one where Hercules throws the moon into the sky. The patterning of the sky is made with a plastic knife.
