KALOJA T-PAIDASSA / FISH ON THE T-SHIRT

Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttelyn aulapuodista löytyy monenlaista tuotetta: linopiirroksiani kehystettynä ja ilman, kortteja, keittiöpyyhkeitä ja nyt Ulla Heinosen ideoi kalalinosta t-paidan (tummansininen, ihana kevyt materiaali).

The lobby shop of the Naive Artists at Iittala exhibition offers a wide variety of products: my lino drawings framed and unframed, cards, kitchen towels and now Ulla Heinonen came up with the ides of fish lino t-shirt (dark blue, lovely light material).

KALAPARVI / FLOCK OF FISH

 

Pienetkin linopiirrokset kaloista on nyt lisätty tähän 40 x 30 cm kokoiseen kuvaan. Pienimmät kalat liimasin viinipullon korkkeihin, jotta niitä oli helpompi vedostaa painamalla. Pienimmät kalat ovat vain noin 2 x 2 cm kokoisia. Mukaan on eksynyt muutama simpukankuorikin.

Even the small linocuts of the fish have now been added to this 40 x 30 cm image. I glued the smallest fish to wine bottle corks to make them easier to print by pressing. The smallest fish are only about 2 x 2 cm in size. You can find also a few mussel shells in the flock of fish.

Mahtuisivatko kaikki pienemmät linopiirrokset kaloista yhdelle paperille, jonka koko on 40 x 30 cm. Kokeillaan. Aloitetaan sijoittelemalla linoja paperille. Kaikkein pienimmät stampit / leimasinmalliset kalat vielä puuttuvat.

Muutaman uuden pienen linopiirroksen kaloista tein isoa merikrotti-sekatekniikkatyötä varten. Näiden pikkukalojen koko on vain noin 2 x 2 cm ja liimasin ne kuohuviinipullon korkkeihin. Näin voin käyttää niitä kuin leimasimia. Tällaisista pienistä kaloista voi koota isompia kalaparvia ja saada parveen haluamansa muodon. Mitä jos tekisin kuvan, jossa on vain kaloja?

I made a few new small linocuts of fish for a large mixed media work of an anglerfish. These little fish are only about 2 x 2 cm in size and I glued them to the caps of sparkling wine corks. This way I can use them like stamps. You can assemble larger flock of fish from such small fish and make the flock any shape you want. What if I made a picture with only fish?

HUKUIN, NUKUIN, HERÄSIN /I DROWNED, I SLEPT, I WOKE UP

 

Nyt taitaa olla valmis tämä isohko sekatekniikkatyö lyhtykalasta Tahmelan rantavesissä. Kuvan yläosassa Pispalan rinne - linopiirros nousee Tahmelan rannasta viljelypalstojen taakse. Punaisessa haulitornissa loistaa ikkunoista valo. Vesi on tehty pehmeällä pastellilla, mutta simpukat, vesikasvit ja kalat ovat linopiirroksia. Pari trooppista kalaa on käsin väritetty. Eikä tällaisia kaloja Tahmelan rannan matalassa vedessä ui muuten kuin mielikuvituksessani. Kuvan koko on 130 x 90 cm. Nimeä etsin työlle pitkään, ja päädyin tällaiseen Juice Leskisen kappaleesta Syvänmeren sukeltaja: "Hukuin, nukuin, heräsin - mä täältä löysin taivaan".

Now I think I've finished this rather large mixed media work of lanternfish in the waters of Tahmela. At the top of the picture, the Pispala ridge - a linocut - rises from the shore of Tahmela behind the vegetable plots. Light shines from the windows in the red shot tower. The water is done with soft pastel, but the mussels, aquatic plants and fish are linocuts. A couple of tropical fish have been hand-colored. And there are no fish like this swimming in the shallow water of Tahmela shore except in my imagination. The size of the picture is 130 x 90 cm. I searched for a name for the work for a long time, and I ended up with this one from Juice Leskinen's song Deep Sea Diver: "I drowned, I slept, I woke up - I found heaven here".

PIKKUKALOJA / LITTLE FISH: osa/Part 7

 

Lisäsin liudan linopiirroksia pikkukaloista kuvan vasemmalle reunalle. Kalaparvi on matkalla ylös rantaan. Linopiirrokset ovat leimasimia, jotka olen liimannut viinipullon korkkeihin jotta niihin saa hiukan painovoimaa. Näitä pikkukalojen stamppeja voisi lisätä leimasinmusteellakin, mutta käytän tässä ihan tavallista linoväriä.

I added a bunch of linocuts of little fish to the left side of the picture. A flock of fish is making their way up to the shore. The linocuts are stamps that I have glued to wine bottle caps to give them a bit of gravity. These little fish stamps could also be added with stamp ink, but I am using regular linoprint ink here.

Pastelliveteen alkaa nyt muotoutua parvi kaloja. Kalat liikkuvat kuvan oikealla reunalta ylös rantaveteen. Pari outoakin kalaa näkyy vasemmassa alakulmassa: minikokoinen hai ja pallokala. Näitäkään lajeja ei varmuudella ole Tahmelan rantavedessä, mutta mielikuvituksessa sekin on mahdollista.

A flock of fish is now starting to form in the pastel water. The fish are moving from the right edge of the picture up into the shore water. A couple of strange fish can be seen in the lower left corner: a mini-sized shark and a puffer fish. These species are also definitely not found in the Tahmela shore water, but in the imagination they are also possible.

Sekatekniikkatyö lyhtykalasta Tahmelan rannassa sai väliaikaisesti häädön joulujuhlien tieltä pesuhuoneeseen. Mahtui sinne juuri ja juuri, ja kaikenlaisia vaaroja on näin ison paperin siirtelyssä.Lisää kaloja veteen jo tuli uiskentelemaan.

Linopiirrokset kaloista ovat edelleen vedostamatta, mutta suunnittelen jo niiden taakse merikrotin valonsäteitä. Vaaleamman ja tummemman sinisen pastelliveden välissä tulee olemaan vihertävää vettä eli pastelliväriä.

Pastelliveteen alkoi jo muotoutua pohja, johon auringon valo hiukan  heijastuu. Pohjaan on tulossa pieniä linopiirroksia kotiloista, yksi meritähti ja pari vesikasvia. joille haen paikkoja. MERIKROTIN VALO / LIGHT OF THE MONKFISH : osa /part 2

 

Lyhtykala eli merikrotti tulee olemaan tämän pastelliveden kuningas. Sillä on lyhty, jolla levittää valonsäteitä pohjaan asti. Tässä vaiheessa tein aika kirkkaan keltaiset valonsäteet ja ne näyttävät hirveiltä. Voisin heittää hanskat tiskiin, mutta aion peittää kirkkaimman valon sinisen tai vihertävän veden alle.

Piti hankkia vielä aiempaa isompi vanerinpala pöytälevyn päälle, jotta suunnittelemani vesi ja kalat mahtuisivat kaikki kerralla näkyviin. Levyn koko on metri kertaa metri. No, aiemmin paperin yläreunaan vedostamani Pispala-näkymä jää levyn ulkopuolelle, mutta siihen ei aiokaan levittää pastelliväriä kuten veteen. Suurin kala tässä rantavedessä tulee olemaan lyhtykala eli merikrotti.

I had to get an even bigger piece of plywood to put on the tabletop so that the water and fish I designed could all fit in at once. The size of the board is a meter by a meter. Onko teoksen koolla väliä? Omat työni ovat uuden työhuoneen myötä parin vuoden aikana suurentuneet kun on enemmän tilaa pöydällä ja lattialla. Samalla linopiirroksien yhdistely pastelli- ja monotypiatekniikkaan on tuonut töihin väriä. Neljä tähän mennessä suurinta työtäni on jo myyty, ja sehän innostaa miettimään jo uusia, enkä taida vieläkään luopua ideasta yhdistää Pispalan maisemaan lintuja, kaloja tai kumpaakin - taivasta ja vettä.

Does the size of the work matter? My own work has grown in size over the past two years with the new studio, as there is more space on the table and floor. At the same time, combining linocuts with pastel and monotype techniques has brought color to the work. Four of my largest works so far have already been sold, and that inspires me to think about new ones, and I still don't think I'll give up on the idea of ​​combining birds, fish, or both - sky and water - with the Pispala landscape.

Tähän mennessä isoin sekatekniikkatyöni, linopastelli taivaasta ja vedestä sekä Pispalan harjusta taitaa nyt olla valmis. Ja sen käsitteleminen työpöydällä viimeistelyä varten oli ihan mahdotonta. Pitänee siirtyä tekemään hommaa lattialle.

Nyt taitaa olla ison linopastellini alaosan vesi valmis. Vesi on tehty pastelliväreillä ja kalat sekä simpukat ja vesikasvit ovat linopiirroksia. Yleensä huomaan tässä vaiheessa, että pienille linopiirroksille eli stampeille on jätetty liian isot aukot. Kun ne stampit on vedostettu paikoilleen, edessä on vielä aika iso homma viimeistellä vedos, niin, ettei turhia valkoisia alueita aukkojen jäljiltä näy. Pohjassa näkyy jo muutama vesikasvikin. Oikealla oleva parvi kaikkein pienimpiä kaloja on vedostettu ilman aukkoja suoraan pastelliveden päälle punaisella leimasinvärillä.

Usually at this stage I notice that the small linocuts, or stamps, have been left with too large holes. Once the stamps have been printed, there is still a lot of work to do to finish the print so that there are no unnecessary white areas left by the holes. You can already see a few aquatic plants at the bottom. The flock of the smallest fish on the right has been printed without gaps directly on the pastel water with red stamp ink.

Sijoittelen jo paikoilleen aukkoihinsa pienehköjä linopiirroksia kaloista ja simpukoista. Kaikkein pienimpiä voi kutsua leimasimiksi eli stampeiksi.Kaksi suurinta kalaa vedostan pastelliveden yläosaan uimaan peräjälkeen.

Pastelliveteen alkaa erottua sinisempi ja violetimpi osa. Rannalle heijastuu ehkä taivaalta punaista väriä ja pohjaan tuli muutama auringonsäde. Kalojen ja simpukoiden paikalla on vielä sapluunoita.
