ISOT / LARGE ONES

Onko teoksen koolla väliä? Omat työni ovat uuden työhuoneen myötä parin vuoden aikana suurentuneet kun on enemmän tilaa pöydällä ja lattialla. Samalla linopiirroksien yhdistely pastelli- ja monotypiatekniikkaan on tuonut töihin väriä. Neljä tähän mennessä suurinta työtäni on jo myyty, ja sehän innostaa miettimään jo uusia, enkä taida vieläkään luopua ideasta yhdistää Pispalan maisemaan lintuja, kaloja tai kumpaakin - taivasta ja vettä.

Does the size of the work matter? My own work has grown in size over the past two years with the new studio, as there is more space on the table and floor. At the same time, combining linocuts with pastel and monotype techniques has brought color to the work. Four of my largest works so far have already been sold, and that inspires me to think about new ones, and I still don't think I'll give up on the idea of ​​combining birds, fish, or both - sky and water - with the Pispala landscape.

TAIVAS JA VESI / SKY AND WATER : 18

 

Tähän mennessä isoin sekatekniikkatyöni, linopastelli taivaasta ja vedestä sekä Pispalan harjusta taitaa nyt olla valmis. Ja sen käsitteleminen työpöydällä viimeistelyä varten oli ihan mahdotonta. Pitänee siirtyä tekemään hommaa lattialle.

My biggest mixed media work to date, a lino pastel of sky and water and Pispala ridge, seems to be finished now. And it was impossible to finish it on the desk. I guess I'll have to move to the floor to do the work.

RANTAVESI / BEACH WATER: 10

 

Nyt taitaa olla ison linopastellini alaosan vesi valmis. Vesi on tehty pastelliväreillä ja kalat sekä simpukat ja vesikasvit ovat linopiirroksia. Aina kun vedostan liudan pieniä linopiirroksia, samat linot saattavat mennä mennä oikeinpäin ja sitten myös ylösalaisin. Niin kävi nytkin. Huomaakohan noita paria kalaa, jotka uivat selällään.

Now I think the water in the lower part of my large lino pastel is ready. The water is done in pastel colors and the fish, shells and aquatic plants are linocuts. Yleensä huomaan tässä vaiheessa, että pienille linopiirroksille eli stampeille on jätetty liian isot aukot. Kun ne stampit on vedostettu paikoilleen, edessä on vielä aika iso homma viimeistellä vedos, niin, ettei turhia valkoisia alueita aukkojen jäljiltä näy. Pohjassa näkyy jo muutama vesikasvikin. Oikealla oleva parvi kaikkein pienimpiä kaloja on vedostettu ilman aukkoja suoraan pastelliveden päälle punaisella leimasinvärillä.

Usually at this stage I notice that the small linocuts, or stamps, have been left with too large holes. Once the stamps have been printed, there is still a lot of work to do to finish the print so that there are no unnecessary white areas left by the holes. You can already see a few aquatic plants at the bottom. The flock of the smallest fish on the right has been printed without gaps directly on the pastel water with red stamp ink.

Sijoittelen jo paikoilleen aukkoihinsa pienehköjä linopiirroksia kaloista ja simpukoista. Kaikkein pienimpiä voi kutsua leimasimiksi eli stampeiksi.Kaksi suurinta kalaa vedostan pastelliveden yläosaan uimaan peräjälkeen.

AUKOT KALOILLE / HOLES FOR THE FISH : 7

 Isohkon linopastellityön alaosan pastellivesi alkaa olla valmis. Nyt vesi on täynnä sapluunojen avulla muodostuneita aukkoja, joihin aion vedostaa linopiirroksia kaloista. Ihan alhaalla on pohjakiviä, ja niiden päällä on aukkoja linosimpukoille. Ehkä pohjalla pitäisi olla vielä jotain vesikasveja.

The pastel water of the lower part of the rather large lino pastel work is almost ready. Now the water is full of holes created by the stencils, into which I plan to print linocuts of fish. At the very bottom there are rocks, and on top of them there are holes for lino shells. Maybe there should be some more aquatic plants at the bottom.

Pastelliveteen alkaa erottua sinisempi ja violetimpi osa. Rannalle heijastuu ehkä taivaalta punaista väriä ja pohjaan tuli muutama auringonsäde. Kalojen ja simpukoiden paikalla on vielä sapluunoita.

The pastel water is starting to show a bluer and more violet part. There is perhaps a red color reflected from the sky on the shore and a few rays of sunlight have reached the bottom. There are still stencils in place of the fish and mussels.

Ison sekatekniikatyöni alaosa on nyt  saanut ensimmäisen kerroksen pehmeää pastellia. Tästä tulee Tahmelan rannan vesi. Pohjalla näkyy hiukan pohjaa, kiviä ja simpukoita. Vedessä uiskentelee parvi kaloja, joita varten olen tehnyt sapluunat. Haluaisin vedestä hiukan tummempaa, mutta kalat haluan vedostaa vaalealle pohjalle, samoin simpukat.

The bottom of my large mixed media work has now received its first layer of soft pastel. This will be the water on the Tahmela beach. You can see a bit of the bottom, rocks and shells on the bottom. There is a flock of fish swimming in the water, for fish I have made stencils. I would like the water to be a little darker, but I want to draw the fish on a light background, as well as the shells.

KUMMALLISET KALAT / STRANGE FISH

 

Isohko sekatekniikkatyö Pispalan harjusta, Tahmelan rannan kynäjalavasta ja rannan vedestä on nyt valmis, luulisin. Työ on aika iso 100 x 80 cm ja sininen. Pastellivettä on iso osa kuvasta. Vedostin linopiirrokset kaloista vasta valmiiseen veteen, paitsi isoa kalaa jätin valkoisen "aukon" vedostusta varten, jotta valkoiset alueet kalan suomuissa erottuvat.Yläosan Pispalan harju ja kynäjalava ovat linopiirroksia. Samoin tuo myöhemmin lisätty pala kaislikkoa - toimii minusta ihan hyvin ja varjostaa rannalla olevia veneen puolikkaita. Näin isoissa työissä on se hauska piirre, että alkuvaiheessa iskee jonkinlainen epätoivo - ei tästä tule mitään. Mutta kun pääsee eteenpäin, voi nauttia niistä paikoista. jotka näyttävät suunnilleen siltä kuin kuvitteli kuvaa suunnitellessaan. Löysin tälle kuvalle nimen Edith Södergranin runosta: "Kummalliset kalat liukuvat syvyydessä, tuntemattomat kukat loistavat rannalla".

Quite large mixed media work of the Pispala ridge, the elm of Tahmela beach and the water of the beach is now ready, I think. The work is quite large 100 x 80 cm and blue. Pastel water is a big part of the picture. I printed the linocuts of the fish onto the freshly done & fixed pastel water, except for the big fish. I left a white "opening" for the print, so that the white areas in the fish's scales stand out. The Pispala ridge and the elm in the upper part are linocuts. Likewise, that later added piece of reeds - works just fine for me and shades the boat halves on the shore. The funny thing about such big jobs is that in the beginning, you feel some kind of despair - this is not functioning. But when you move on, you can enjoy those places. which look approximately as imagined when designing the image. I found the name for this picture from Edith Södergran's poem: "Strange Fish Slide In the Deep, Unknown Flowers Shine On the Shore".

KALAPARVI / FLOCK OF FISH

 No nyt on kaloja rantavedessä - kokonainen parvi.  Montakohan noita isompia ja pienempiä kaloja tässä oikein - laskin: 50 linopiirroskalaa. Veden yllä lentelee myös korento, mutta sen suurin kala ehkä on piankin syönyt lounaakseen. Pientä viimeistelyä vaille, ja tämä kalaparvi on valmis.

Well, now there are fish in the beach water - a whole flock. How many of those bigger and smaller fish are there - I counted: 50 linocut fish. There is also a dragonfly flying over the water, but the biggest fish may have eaten it for lunch soon. Just a little finishing, and this flock of fish is ready.

KALAT UIMAAN / FISH GO SWIMMING

 Kalat hakevat paikkaansa rantavedessä. Yksi sudenkorentokin on lentämässä aika lähellä hyppäävää kalaa. Tähän tarvitaan aika paljon lisää linopiirroskaloja, sillä pastellivedessä on tilaa. Kuvan leveys on 80 cm.

The fish are looking for their place in the beach water. One dragonfly is also flying quite close to the jumping fish. A lot more linocut fish are needed for this, because there is room in the pastel water. The width of the picture is 80 cm.

AA -AA - AURINKO / SUN

 Toinen kapea ja korkea mökkimäen muunnelma on nyt valmis. Koko on aika konstikas 90 x 30 cm. Taivaalla on kirkas keltainen aurinko ja lintuparvi lentää sen ympäri. Mökkimäen rantavedessä ui hauki ja parvi meduusoja. Värit ovat aika kirkkaita ja pastellisia, onhan taivas ja vesi tehty pastelliliiduilla. Mökkimäki, hauki, meduusat, aurinko ja linnut ovat linopiirroksia. Minusta tämä kuva on hiukan kuin karkki. Nimeksikin tuli lastenlorusta virke: "Aa - aa - aurinko, aurinko paistaa kaikille".

Another narrow and tall variation of the cottage hill is now ready. The size is quite strange, 90 x 30 cm. There is a bright yellow sun in the sky and a flock of birds is flying around it. A pike and a flock of jellyfish swim in the coastal waters of the cottage hill. The colors are quite bright and pastel, after all the sky and water are made with pastel colours. The cottage hill, pike, jellyfish, sun and birds are linocuts. I think this picture is a bit like candy. The name came from a nursery rhyme phrase: "Aa - aa - sun, the sun shines for everyone".

MÖKKIMÄEN TAIVAS JA VESI / SKY AND WATER OF THE COTTAGE HILL

 

Sopivatko mökkimäen pastellitaivas ja pastellivesi yhteen? Niiden välissä on linopiirros itse mökistä mäellään. Hain tähän pyöreitä muotoja linopiirroksista ja muutenkin, sillä mäki on pyöreä. Myös aurinko sen ympärillä lentävä lintuparvi muodostavat ympyrän. Hauki on kerällä ja meduusat ovat pyöreitä. Pienen pienet linokalatkin ovat aika pulleita.

Do the pastel sky and pastel water of the cottage hill go together? Between them is a lino drawing of the cabin itself on the hill. I used round shapes for this picture from linocuts and otherwise, because the hill is also round. Also the sun and the flock of birds flying around it form a circle. The pike is on the ball and the jellyfish are round. The small little lino fish are also quite chubby.

ELÄMÄÄ MÖKKIMÄKEEN / LIFE TO THE COTTAGE HILL

 Linopiirrokseen mökkimäestä alkoi nyt tulla elämää. Vedessä uiskentelee kuusi hiukan eri väristä meduusaa ja yksi vihreä hauki keskellä on kerällä. Keltaisen auringon ympärille lensi parvi pieniä linolintuja.  Viimeistelyä vaille, uskoisin.

The linocut of the cabin hill started to have some life. There are six jellyfish of slightly different colour swimming in the water and one green pike in the middle is in a ball. A flock of little lino birds flew around the yellow sun. Still some finishing touches, I would think.

MEDUUSOJA / JELLYFISH

 

Mökkimäen rantaveteen uiskentelee meduusoja. Niille olen jättänyt tyhjät paikat pastelliveteen. Kivinen pohja on punertava. Taivaalle ilmestyi jo hentoja pilviä mökin taakse.

Jellyfish swim in the coastal waters of the cottage on a hill. I have left the empty spaces for them in pastel water. The rocks on the bottom are reddish.Light clouds are already appearing in the sky behind the cottage.

YLI VIRRAN UIT JA LENSIT POIS NIIN LUJAA / ACROSS THE STREAM YOU SWAM AND FLEW AWAY SO FAST

 

Kissa ei enää voinut vastustaa kiusausta sukeltaa kalojen perään Pispalan rannassa. Rantavesi onkin täynnä linopiirroskaloja ja aurinko siivilöityy rantavedessä ja pohjan kivissä. Muutama korallikin on kasvanut simpukoiden joukkoon. Yläosan rantakin on linopiirros. Vesi on tehty pehmeillä pastelleilla, ja tavoittelin siinä tuota valon ja varjon vaihtelua rantavedessä. Kuva on aika iso: 67 x 60 cm. 

Taulun uuden omistajan kanssa päätettiin, että kuvan nimeksi tulee "Yli virran uit ja lensit pois niin lujaa" Juicen laulusta Minea.

The cat could not any more resist her temptation to dive after the fishes at the Tahmela beach. Well, the beach water is full of linocut fishes, and the sun filters down on the stones at the bottom and the shore water. Even some corals are growing amongst the linocut shells. The upper shore is also a linocut. The water was done with soft pastels, and I was aiming there that variation of light and shadow in the beach water. The picture is quite big: 67 x 60 cm. With the new owner of this work we decided that the picture will be called " Across the Stream You Swam And Flew Away So Fast" after Juice Leskinen's song Minea.

Sekatekniikkatyö linopiirroksia ja pastellia alkaa olla valmis. Kuva odottelee vielä viimeistelyä vielä viimeistelyä pienessä työhuoneen kylpyhuoneessa. Tavoittelin veteen valoa sekä rantaan että pohjan kiviin.

UUSI KALA JA PASTELLIA / NEW FISH AND PASTEL

 

Uuteen veden alaiseen kuvaan löysin jo aika monen vuoden takaa linopiirroksen kalasta, joka sopikin ihan hyvin maisemaan. Nyt kuvassa on kaksi näitä kaloja. Pastellivesi alkoi hahmottua, sinistä ja vihreää.

KALOJA JA KISSA / FISH AND CAT

 Aloitin suunnitella vielä yhtä aika isoa sekatekniikkatyötä kaloista ja vedestä. Tähän kuvaan tulee yläosaan linopiirros Tahmelan rannasta ja veteen kaloja, simpukoita ja sitten sinne hyppäsi rannalta kissa.
