AA -AA - AURINKO / SUN

 Toinen kapea ja korkea mökkimäen muunnelma on nyt valmis. Koko on aika konstikas 90 x 30 cm. Taivaalla on kirkas keltainen aurinko ja lintuparvi lentää sen ympäri. Mökkimäen rantavedessä ui hauki ja parvi meduusoja. Värit ovat aika kirkkaita ja pastellisia, onhan taivas ja vesi tehty pastelliliiduilla. Mökkimäki, hauki, meduusat, aurinko ja linnut ovat linopiirroksia. Minusta tämä kuva on hiukan kuin karkki. Nimeksikin tuli lastenlorusta virke: "Aa - aa - aurinko, aurinko paistaa kaikille".

Another narrow and tall variation of the cottage hill is now ready. The size is quite strange, 90 x 30 cm. There is a bright yellow sun in the sky and a flock of birds is flying around it. A pike and a flock of jellyfish swim in the coastal waters of the cottage hill. The colors are quite bright and pastel, after all the sky and water are made with pastel colours. The cottage hill, pike, jellyfish, sun and birds are linocuts. I think this picture is a bit like candy. The name came from a nursery rhyme phrase: "Aa - aa - sun, the sun shines for everyone".

MÖKKIMÄEN TAIVAS JA VESI / SKY AND WATER OF THE COTTAGE HILL

 

Sopivatko mökkimäen pastellitaivas ja pastellivesi yhteen? Niiden välissä on linopiirros itse mökistä mäellään. Hain tähän pyöreitä muotoja linopiirroksista ja muutenkin, sillä mäki on pyöreä. Myös aurinko sen ympärillä lentävä lintuparvi muodostavat ympyrän. Hauki on kerällä ja meduusat ovat pyöreitä. Pienen pienet linokalatkin ovat aika pulleita.

Do the pastel sky and pastel water of the cottage hill go together? Between them is a lino drawing of the cabin itself on the hill. I used round shapes for this picture from linocuts and otherwise, because the hill is also round. Also the sun and the flock of birds flying around it form a circle. The pike is on the ball and the jellyfish are round. The small little lino fish are also quite chubby.

ELÄMÄÄ MÖKKIMÄKEEN / LIFE TO THE COTTAGE HILL

 Linopiirrokseen mökkimäestä alkoi nyt tulla elämää. Vedessä uiskentelee kuusi hiukan eri väristä meduusaa ja yksi vihreä hauki keskellä on kerällä. Keltaisen auringon ympärille lensi parvi pieniä linolintuja.  Viimeistelyä vaille, uskoisin.

The linocut of the cabin hill started to have some life. There are six jellyfish of slightly different colour swimming in the water and one green pike in the middle is in a ball. A flock of little lino birds flew around the yellow sun. Still some finishing touches, I would think.

MEDUUSOJA / JELLYFISH

 

Mökkimäen rantaveteen uiskentelee meduusoja. Niille olen jättänyt tyhjät paikat pastelliveteen. Kivinen pohja on punertava. Taivaalle ilmestyi jo hentoja pilviä mökin taakse.

Jellyfish swim in the coastal waters of the cottage on a hill. I have left the empty spaces for them in pastel water. The rocks on the bottom are reddish.Light clouds are already appearing in the sky behind the cottage.

AURINKO NOUSEE / SUN IS RISING

 

Taas olen mökkimäen kimpussa. Idea tehdä mökkikäen ylle taivas ja alle vesi kiehtoo edelleen. Nyt taivaalle tuli kirkkaan keltainen linopiirros auringosta säteineen ja punmaisine keskustoineen.

I'm at the cottage hill again. The idea of making the sky above the cabin and the water below still fascinates me. Now a bright yellow linocut of the sun and its rays and the red centre appeared in the sky.

ONNI / HAPPINESS

 

Kokeilin tässä ideaa lisätä linopiirrokseen mökkimäestä sekä pastellivesi että pastellitaivas. Tätä oli tosi kiva tehdä, joten jotain samantapaista saattaa syntyä jatkossakin. Näin tehtynä kuvasta tulee aika korkea ja kapea, 80 cm x 30 cm. Ja nimen etsiminenkin oli hauskaa. Tämän nimeksi tuli säe Matti Jurvan laulusta 1900-luvun alkupuolelta: " Yli järven luo onni sillan niin kultaisen luokse mökkimme pienen punaisen".

Here I tried the idea of adding both pastel water and pastel sky to the linocut of the cottage hill. It was really nice to do this, so something similar might happen in the future. When done this way, the picture becomes quite tall and narrow, 80 cm x 30 cm. And searching for a name was fun too. The name for this work came from a verse from Matti Jurva's song from the beginning of the 20th century: "Across the lake the happiness makes a golden bridge  to our little red cottage".

LINNUT MÖKKIMÄEN TAIVAALLE / BIRDS IN THE SKY OF THE COTTAGE HILL

 

Nyt on linopiirrokset lintuparvestakin vedostettu mökkimäen taivaalle. Pienimmät linnut, hiukan pääskysen näköiset ovat oikeastaan leimasimia, liimattu viinipullon korkkiin ja helppo painaa paperille. Lintuja on kaikkiaan 16 taivaalla. Pientä viimeistelyä enään tarvitaan.

Now the linocuts of a flock of birds are printed onto the sky of the cottage hill. The smallest birds, a bit like swallows, are actually stamps, glued to the wine bottle cap and easy to print on paper. There are a total of 16 birds in the sky. A little finishing is needed.

TAIVAS MÖKKIMÄELLE / SKY TO THE COTTAGE HILL

 

Tein horisontin mökkimäen taivaalle pehmeillä pastelleilla. Nyt taivas häipyy mäen taakse ja hehkuu hiukan keltaisena. Nyt vaakasuora pilviverho alhaalla taivaalla ei enää häiritse silmääni. Seuraavaksi vedostan linopiirrrokset linnuista taivaalle.

I made the horizon for the sky of the cottage hill with soft pastels. Now the sky fades behind the hill and glows a little yellow. Now the horizontal curtain of clouds in the low sky no longer bothers my eye. Next, I print linocuts of the birds into the sky.

PUNERTAVAA TAIVASTA / PINK SKY

Mökkimäen ylle alkoi nyt tulla punertavaa pastellitaivasta. Tuo punerrus heijastuu alaosan veteenkin rannalla. Selkeä raja horisontissa ei sovi tähän kuvaan, jossa lintuparvien ja mäen mjuodot ovat pyöreitä. Pitää siis kehitellä.

A reddish pastel sky began to appear over the cottage hill. That blush is also reflected in the water at the bottom part on the beach. A clear border on the horizon does not fit this picture, where the lines of the flocks of birds and the hill are round. So I have to develop something else.

LINTUJA MÖKKIMÄELLE / BIRDS TO THE COTTAGE HILL

 

Kun mökkimäen alaosan vesi ja kalat ovat valmiit, aloitin taivaan teon mökkimäen ylle. Ensin asettelin paikoilleen linopiirroksia linnuista. Ne tulevat kaaren muotoisena parvena hiukan samanlaisessa muodossa kuin mökin yllä lentävät linnut ja koko kumpumainen mäki. Taivas seuraavaksi pastellivärillä.

When the water and fish in the lower part of the cottage hill are ready, I started making the sky above the cottage hill. First I put linocuts of birds in place. VETTÄ JA KALOJA / WATER AND FISH

 

Uuden mökkimäen alaosaan tuleva vesi ja kalat on hauska tehdä. On oikeastaan kaksi tapaa tehdä nämä kalat: joko vedostaa ne ensimmäiseksi paperille tai stten tehdä niistä sapluunat ja jättää kaloille aukot vedostusta varten vasta kun pastellivesi on ensin tehty. Nyt tein sapluunat ja asttelin ne paperille sekä kiinnitin palasella teippiä. Kalojen kohdalle jätän puhtaan paperin, ja siinä pitää olla aika suurpiirteinen ja jättää oukot summittaisiksi, ei terävärajaisiksi. Seuraavaksi taivasta.

The water and fish coming to the bottom of the new cottage hill is fun to make. There are actually two ways to make these fish: either to print them on paper first, or to make templates out of them and leave holes for the fishes for printing only after the pastel water is done first. Now I made the templates and laid them out on the paper and fixed them with a piece of tape. I leave a piece of clean paper next to the fish, and it has to be quite sketchy and leave the gaps rough, no sharp outlines. Next the sky.

UUSI VERSIO MÖKKIMÄKEÄ / NEW VERSION OF A COTTAGE ON A HILL

 

Mitä jos tekisinkin sellaisen version linopiirrroksesta mökkimäestä, että siihen yhdistyisi sekä taivas että vesi. Kuvastahan tulee sitten aika korkea ja kapea. Aloitin vedestä pastelliväreillä ja lisäsin linopiirroksia kaloista. Seuraavaksi taivasta.

MÖKKIMÄKI / COTTAGE HILL

 Linopiirros ja pastellityö Mökkimäki on valmis. Lisäsin vieläauringoin säteitä veteen. Tämä oli tosi kiva tilaustyö ja nyt sen voi antaa lahjaksi uuteen kotiin. Kuvaan toivottiin isoa mäkeä, jonka päällä on punainen kesämökki, rannassa sauna ja niiden välissä pitkät portaat. Laiturissa on vene ja sinivihertävässä vedessä kaloja. Siinä se! Kuvan koko on 50 x 30 cm ja se kehystettiin kapeisiin mustiin puukehyksiin. Taulun koko paspeineen on noin 70 x 50 cm. Hyvää joulua itsekullekin muistellen jo kesän mökkirantaa!

Linocut and pastel work Mökkimäki / Cottage Hill is ready. I still added some rays of sun in the water. This was a really nice commissioned work and now it can be given as a gift for a new home. The customer wanted a big hill with a red summer cottage on top, a sauna on the beach and long stairs between them. There is a boat at the pier and fish in the blue-green water. That's it! The size of the picture is 50 x 30 cm and it was framed in narrow black wooden frames. The size of the picture including the passepartout is approximately 70 x 50 cm. Merry Christmas to everyone, remembering already the cottage beach of the summer!

VETTÄ MÖKKIMÄKEEN / WATER ON THE COTTAGE HILL

Punaisen kesämökin rannassa lainehtii vesi. Aika matala kivipohjakin näkyy kirkkaana. Ja vedessä ui kaloja. Sijoittelin jo paikoilleen muutaman linopiirroksen kaloista ja pari vesikasvia.  Vesi on pehmeää pastellia, ja teen sen valmiiksi ennen kalojen vedostusta. Kalojen paikalle jätän valkoiset kohdat sapluunojen avulla.

The water ripples on the shore of the red summer cottage. Even the stone floor can be seen clearly when it is quite low. And there are fish swimming in the water. I already placed a few linocuts of fish and a couple of water plants. The water is made with soft pastel, and I draw it before printing the fish. In the place of the fish, I leave the white spots with the help of stencils..

KALOJA MÖKKIMÄKEEN / FISH TO THE COTTAGE HILL

 

Vedostin A4-kokoisen linopiirroksen mökkimäestä isommalle paperille, jotta voin lisätä kuvan alaosaan vedenalaista elämää. Pieniä linopiirroksia kaloista ja vesikasveista sovittelin jo veteen. Pari uuttakin kalaa sopii joukkoon. Vesi tulee olemaan pehmeää pastelliväriä.

I printed the A4 lino drawing of the cottage hill on a larger paper so that I can add underwater life to the bottom of the picture. I already arranged small lino drawings of fish and water plants in the water. A couple of new fish are also suitable. The water will be a soft pastel color.

MÖKKI MÄELLÄ / COTTAGE ON A HILL

 

Mökki mäellä on A4-kokoinen linopiirros kesämökistä mäen päällä järven rannassa. Väritin käsin mökin punaiseksi, sillä niinhän melkein kaikki mökit Suomessa ovat punaisia. Rannassa olevassa saunassa kiuas lämpiää, sisällä on valoa. Vene rannassa on minusta houkutteleva. Ja olihan tätä kuvaa kiva kaivertaa kaikkine yksityiskohtineen. Seuraavaksi kuva laajenee alaspäin, sillä sinne tulee vettä.

The cottage on the hill is an A4-sized linocut of a summer cottage on top of a hill on the shore of a lake. I painted the cabin red by hand, because that's how almost all cabins in Finland are - red. In the sauna on the beach, the heater is warming, there is light inside. A boat on the beach is attractive to me. And it was nice to engrave this picture with all the details. Next, the image expands downwards, as there will be water.

MÖKKIMÄKI - KAIVERRUSTA / COTTAGE HILL - CARVING

 

Linopiirros mökkimäestä alkaa valmistua. Pitkät portaat olivat sen verran tarkka homma, että piti tussilla mustata linolevyn pintaa, jotta erottaa sen, mitä on kaivertanut vaaleampana. Parvi lintuja lentää yli mökin ja mäessä on isompia peltoaukeita, metso, jänis ja orava. Rannassa lämpiää sauna ja vene odottaa laiturissa kalastajia.

The linocut of the cottage hill is starting to be completed. The long stairs were such a meticulous job that I used a marker to paint the surface of the lino board with a black marker in order to distinguish what has been carved in a lighter color. A flock of birds flies over the summer cottage and there are bigger open fields, a capercaillie, a hare and a squirrel on the hill. There is the sauna warming on the beach and a boat is waiting for fishermen at the pier.

MÖKKIMÄKI -LUONNOS / COTTAGE HILL - DRAFT

 

Hauska tilaustyö syntymässä. Lahjaksi haluttiin linopiirros kesämökistä mäen päällä järven rannassa. Sain muutaman kuvauksen mökistä ja aloin hahmotella luonnosta A4-kokoiseen linopiirrokseen, joka tästä saattaa vielä laajeta niin, että lopullisessa kuvassa näkyy vettä ja kaloja. Luonnostelen kuvaa linopiirrosta varten leivinpaperille pehmeällä lyijykynällä. Leivinpaperilta se on helppo painamalla siirtää peilikuvaksi linolevylle.

Fun custom job in the making. As a gift, they wanted a linocut of a summer cottage on top of a hill on the shore of a lake. I got a few descriptions of the cottage and started sketching the draft for an A4-sized linocut, which may expand from here so that the final image shows water and fish. I sketch an image for a linocut on baking paper with a soft pencil. From baking paper, it is easy to press and transfer nto a mirror image on a lino plate.
