In Terry DeRoy Gruber's black-and-white photograph, a black-and-white cat peeks out of a gap in the wall, looking a little sly. Has the cat managed to fit through that gap? Or has it already been on the other side of the wall? The gap looks hastily sawn and at least bigger than a mousehole. The picture on the card is from the book "Working Cats" illustrated by Terry DeRoy Gruber from 1979. The workplace probably belongs to brokers, even though the tools look different than they do now. No one else is at work but the black and white cat J.P. On the back of the card is the text: " We have a joke in the office about getting all our tips from J.P. WE even tell some of our clients that we're neither bullish nor bearish about the market - we are cat-ish."

There is a effective combination of shapes in this photograph: long socks hanging over a white background, the squares of underpants at the bottom, on the left the folds and the horizontal lines high up. King of the picture is still the spotted cat, who is carefully stepping over the socks. The photo has clearly been shot in a textile shop. The photo was taken by Terry DeRoy Gruber (b. 1953) and the name of the cat is Ken Cat. The picture is one in DeRoy Gruber´s book Working Cats.

Terry DeRoy Gruber's (b. 1953) photograph "Butch" is from his book "Working Cats" from 1979. The owner of the cat defines Butch like this: "We got a deal. He stays off my table and I stay off his tail". Based on tables and cabinets and sawdust on the floor this might be a butcher´s shop, and there might be a stack of sausages on the table. Butch is looking quite fierce for a cat, but he has perhaps got his share of the butcher´s goods. Cat´s fur is shining and so are his eyes.

This photograph "Snowflake" is from Terry DeRoy Gruber´s (b 1953) book "Working Cats". Perhaps this cat´s job is to chase mice from the statue. Gruber has added to the photo this text:" I don´t know his name. I don't even know who he belongs to. He just seems to exist in his own space".
