NYT KAIKKI MÄKEÄ LASKEMAAN! / NOW EVERYONE, LET'S GO DOWN THE HILL!

 

Tätäkään versiota A4-kokoisista linopiirroksistani Pispalasta en ole vedostanut yhdessä 20 X 60 cm kokoisena. Arvelin aiemmin, että niitä ei soisi yhdistää alaosassa olevien kattojen tai niiden osien takia. Tämä maisema oli vain yläosa isommasta neljän A4-palan kuvasta, jossa alaosassa näkyi talot kokonaisina. Kuvassa on iso liuta Pispalan maamerkkejä, haulitorni, Näsinneulan näkötorni, Pispalan koulu, Pispalan portaat, Pyynikin näkötorni ja jopa jo purettu hyppyrimäki eli Tahmelan hoppa. Haulitornin ja pari kuplavolkkaria näkötornin juurella väritin käsin.

I haven't printed this version of my A4-sized linocuts of Pispala together in 20 X 60 cm size either. I previously thought that they shouldn't be combined because of the roofs or parts of them at the bottom. This landscape was just the top of a larger picture of four A4 pieces, where the houses were visible in their entirety at the bottom. The picture shows a large group of Pispala landmarks, the shot tower, the Näsinneula observation tower, Pispala school, Pispala stairs, Pyynikki observation tower and even the already demolished ski jumping hill, or Tahmela hoppa. I hand-colored the shot tower and a couple of bubble Volkwagens at the foot of the observation tower.

AAMUNKOITTOON PURJEHDIN / SAILING TO THE DAWN

 Isompien linopastellien sarjaan tuli tämä uusi aika dramaattinen työ, joka sekin sai nimensä Juicen laulujen mukaan, nyt Odysseuksesta: "Minä laivan kauneimman omistin, sillä aamunkoittoon mä purjehdin". Taivaan ja pastellin kanssa oli hiukan taistelua, pastelli kun ei niin vain taipunut tummaan draamaan. No, aika tyytyväinen kai olen tähän punaruskeaan pilveen. Perhoset saivat hiukan väriä siipiinsä. Tässä kuvassa on kaikenlaisia vastakkaisuuksia kuten tumman pilven seurana hailun hopeinen linokuu. Ja entäs nuo kaksi kissaa virnuilemassa, ei ihan rauhallisen aamunkoiton perikuvia.

In the series of larger lino pastels came this new rather dramatic work, which was also named after Juice's songs, now from Odysseus: "I Owned the Most Beautiful Ship, Sailed It To the Dawn". There was a bit of  fighting with the sky and pastels, because pastel just didn't lend itself to dark drama so easily. Well, I guess I'm quite satisfied with this red-brown cloud. The butterflies got a little color in their wings. There are all kinds of contrasts in this picture, like pale silvery lino moon accompanied by a dark cloud. And what about those two cats grinning, not exactly the epitome of a peaceful dawn.

DRAAMAA TAIVAALLA / DRAMATIC SKY

Pari perhosta ja sulkaa on tulossa pastellitaivaalle, mutta kun halusin taivaasta aika dramaattisen, niin törmäsin engelmaan. Miten oikein sijoittaa punaista, harmaata, valkoista ja ruskeaa niin, että ne eivät näytä sotkulta?Ja halusin pitää taivaan alaosan aika vaaleana, jotta perhoset ja sulat erottuvat. Syvyyttäkin haluaisin tuohon tummaan pilveen.

A couple of butterflies and feathers are coming to the pastel sky, but when I wanted the sky to be quite dramatic, I came across a problem. How to properly place the red, gray, white and brown so that they don't look like a mess? And I wanted to keep the lower part of the sky quite light so that the butterflies and feathers stand out. I would also like some depth in that dark cloud.

NÄSIJÄRVEN TAIVAS / SKY OVER NÄSIJÄRVI

 

Alalaidassa oleva linopiirros on painettu sinertävänä. ehkä osaksi siksi että kuvassa on niin paljon Näsjärven vettä. Löytyyhän kuvasta myös muutama Tampereen maamerkki: Pyynikin näkötorni, Pispalan  haulitorni ja Siilinkarin majakka. - ja yksi purjevenekin. Pispalan talojen yllä kalliolla vaanii kaksi kissaa: Pyynikin häjyyt.  Taivaalla on jo aika himmeä linopiirroskuu ja pari perhosta ja sulkaa etsii paikkojaan.

The linocut on the bottom is printed in bluish. maybe partly because there is so much Näsjärvi water in the picture. A few Tampere landmarks can also be found in the picture: the Pyynikki observation tower, the Pispala shot tower and the Siilinkari lighthouse. - and one sailboat too. There are two cats lurking on the cliff above Pispala's houses: Pyynikki rascals. There is already a rather dim linocut moon in the sky and a couple of butterflies and feathers are looking for their places.

KAKSI HAULITORNIA ART PISPALASSA / TWO SHOT TOWERS AT ART PISPALA

 Art Pispala -galleriassa oven vieressä on viime aikoina ollut pari linopiirrostani. Nyt oven vierustaa koristaa kaksi lino/pastellia Pispslan haulitornista, punainen ja musta torni. Linojen yllä on niihin hyvin sopiva ihana Frans Toikkasen kissaetsaus.

At the gallery Art Pispala by the door there has lately been a couple of my linocuts. Now two lino & pastels of the Pispala shot tower are decorating the door frame, one lino has a black tower, the other one is red. Above the linocuts there is finely with them fitting lovely etching of a cat by Frans Toikkanen.

KAKSI PISPALAN HAULITORNIA / TWO PISPALA SHOT TOWERS

 Häälahjaksi tilattiin taulu /linopiirrros ja pastellitaivas Pispalan haulitornista, sillä häitäkin vietettiin haulitornin pohjalla olevassa juhlatilassa. Tornin piti olla punainen ja lisäsin taivaalle kaksi pientä lintua, mikä sekin sopi lahjaan. Tein samalla toisenkin punaisen haulitornin, jossa on vain pilviä tornin takana. Kummassakin kuvassa on oranssi kuu. Kokoa kuvalla on A4.

There was an order for a wedding present a picture/ linocut and pastel sky of Pispala shot tower, because the wedding was held at the party space at the bottom of the shot tower. The tower should be red and I added two small biords in the sky. which was OK for the present. I made at the same time another red shot tower with only clouds behind the tower. Both of these pictures have a orange moon. The size is A4.

ART PISPALA

 Kolme uutta työtä yhden myydyn tilalla on nyt Art Pispala-kehystämö/galleriassa vakiseinälläni oven vieressä. Kaksi mustavalkoista linopiirrosta ovat Pispala-talojen sarjasta. Keskellä on lino/pastelli Pispalan haulitornista. Olen niin iloinen ja ylpeäkin kun saan pitää tällaisen "oman" seinän. Hinta on 150 € /taulu ja kuvan koko on A4.

Three new works are now in the place of a sold work at Art Pispala gallery on my regular wall by the door. Two black and white linocuts are from my series of Pispala houses. IN the middle is a lino & pastel of Pispala shot tower. I´m so glad and proud that I can keep that kind of "own" wall. THe price is 150 € each and the size of the picture is A4.

LINNUNRATA / MILKY WAY

 Väritin vielä käsin linopiirroslinnun kuvan oikeassa yläreunassa - punaisella. Nyt tämä linnunrata olkoon valmis. Alaosa on kaksi ylintä linopiirrosta neliosaisestaTornien taisto-kuvasta. Ja tornejahan tässä on: Pispalan haulitornista Pyynikin näkötorniin, jopa vanha jo purettu hyppyrimäki Hoppa valvontatorneineen. Taivas linnunratoineen ja tähtineen on pastellipiirros. Tätä oli kiva tehdä ja osui jotenkin samoihin aikoihin kuin kuvat uudelta teleskoopilta kaukaa avaruudesta. Lino/pastellin koko on 50 x 60 cm. 

Annoin tälle nimen Juicen laulun "Laulu vain"  sanoista:

I still coloured by hand the linocut bird on the right upper corner of the picture - red. Let this Milky Way be ready now. The bottom part is two linocuts of the bigger four-part linocut Battle Of the Towers. And there are really towers: from Pispala shot tower to Pyynikki observation tower, even the already demolished old jumping hill Hoppa with its control tower.The sky with the Milky Way with the stars is a pastel drawing. This was fun to make, and it was done about the same time when there were pictures from the outer space from a new telescope. The size of this linocut & pastel is 50 x 60 cm. I named this one after Juice´s lyrics from a song Laulu vain (Only Song):

TORNIEN TAISTO / BATTLE OF THE TOWERS

 Lisäsin hiukan väriä uuteen neliosaiseen linopiirrokseen Pispalan harjusta, jossa kaksi ylintä osaa ovat uusia. Väritin käsin haulitornin punaiseksi ja näkötornin juurella olevat kaksi autoa sinertäväksi ja kellertäväksi. Tämä kuva on niin täynnä pieniä yksityiskohtia, että seuraavaksi haluan tehdä jotain suoraviivaisempaa, saa nähdä onnistuisinko. Sain mielestäni yksityiskohdat hyvin vedostumaan kun paperi on tasaista. Kuvan koko on 20 x 60 cm. Kuva sain nimen: Tornien taisto sen vuosittaisen yhden päivän mukaan, jolloin lintuharrastajat kilpailevat keskenään lintutorneissa.

I added a bit of colour to my four-piece linocut of Pispala ridge. The two upper parts are new. I coloured by hand the shot tower red and two cars at the foot of the observation tower yellowish and bluish. This picture is so full of small details, that next I want to carve something more straightforward, let´s see if I manage that. I think I got the details printed quite nice when the paper is smooth. The picture got a name: Battle of the Towers (Tornien taisto), one day of the year when birdwatchers are nationally competing with each other in bird towers. 

HAULITORNI / SHOT TOWER

 

Pispalan harju-linopiirroksen uuden yläosan kohta, jossa on Pispalan haulitorni, on valmistunut. Pienien yksityiskohtien kaiverruksessa suurennusalilampusta on iso apu. Aion värittää haulitornin valmiina punaiseksi, jollainen se on luonnossa. Tässäkin on perspektiivi keikahtanut ja torni nähdään ikään kuin alhaalta päin.

The new upper part for my linocut of Pispala ridge has now a part, where there is the Pispala shot tower. A magnifying lamp was a big help when I was carving these small details. When the print is ready I plan to colout the shot tower red, as it is in nature. The perspective is swinging also here, and the tower is seen like from below.

PUNAINEN PISPALAN HAULITORNI JA PINKKI TAIVAS / RED PISPALA SHOT TOWER & PINK SKY

 

Yhteen linopiirrokseen punaisista Pispalan haulitorneista tuli pinkki taivas ja yksi pieni linopiirroslintu ja kuukin. Yllättävää, että tuo pinkki pastellitaivas oikeastaan sopii punaisen tornin taustaksi. Ja sitä oli kiva tehdä.

In one of the linocuts of red Pispala shot tower appeared a pink sky and one small linocut bird and even a moon. Surprising, that the pink sky actually seems to fit together with the red tower. And it was nice to make.

PUNAINEN PISPALAN HAULITORNI ILMAN RANTOJA / RED PISPALA SHOT TOWER WITHOUT SHORES

 

Vedostin yhden linopiirroksen punaisesta Pispalan haulitornista ilman Näsijärven rantoja. Tilaa jäi näin enemmän pastellitaivaalle. Taivaalle ilmestyivät nyt myös pienet linopiirroslinnut ja hopeinen kuu. Taivaalla on dramaattinen keltainen kajo.

I printed one of linocuts of red Pispala shot tower without the shores of Näsijärvi. So I got more space for the pastel sky. There are now in the sky also small linocut birds and a silvery moon. There is a dramatic yellow sunrise or sundown in the sky.

PUNAISIA PISPALAN HAULITORNEJA / RED PISPALA SHOT TOWERS

Punaisia Pispalan haulitorneja linopiirroksina on kyselty silloin tällöin ja nyt sain aikaiseksi muutaman uuden haulitornin punaisena vedostuksena. Kahteen näistä lisäsin jo pastelliväreillä sinisen tummahkon yötaivaan. Kuut on vedostettuja pieniä linopaloja. Toisessa on kuussa sydämenmuotoista kiillettä. Muutama pilvikin ajelehtii taivaalla. Kuvan koko on 30 x 20 cm.

Linocuts of red Pispala shot tower has been asked every now and then, and now I managed to print a few new shot towers as red. I already added to two of them a dark blue night sky with pastel colours. The moons are small pieces of linocut. There is heart-shaped glitter on one of the moons. A few clouds are gliding in the sky. The size is 30 x 20 cm.

PYYNIKIN HÄJYYT / PYYNIKKI BADASSES

Vedostin nyt yritysten ja erehdysten kautta kaksiosaisen linopiirrokseni kahdesta pyöreästä kissasta taustallaan Pyynikin ja Pispalan maisemat niin, että kissat ovat mustat ja tausta sininen tai harmahtava. Nyt värit tuntuvat toimivan eivätkä kissatkaan tunnu enää niin pelottavilta. Instgramissa @sissiliskonen ehdotti työlle nimeksi "Pyynikin häjyyt" - sehän  sopii kuin nappi otsaan. Taustalla ovat sekä Pyynikin näkötorni että Pispalan haulitorni ja vielä Siilinkarin majakkakin . Koko on  30 x 40 cm japanilaisella vinyylillä.

I printed now through trial and error my two-part linocut of two round cats with Pispala and Pyynikki scenes so, that the cats are black and the background either bluish or grayish coloured.  Now the colours seem to work, and the cats don´t look so scary. In Instagram @sissiliskonen suggested the name for this picture: "Pyynikki Badasses" ("Pyynikin häjyyt") - an d it fits fine. In the background there are both Pyynikki observation tower and Pispala shot tower and also Siilinkari lighthouse. The size is 30 x 40 cm and I used Japanese vinyl.

KELTAISTA TESTAUSTA / YELLOW EXPERIMENTING

 Katastrofi! Kuvittelin vedostavani linopiirroksen kahdesta aika vihaisesta kissasta niin, että irti leikatut kissat olisivat keltaisia ja tausta musta. Ensin kokeilin kissoja mustalla taustalla vaaleahkon keltaisina ja sitten tummemman keltaisina. Kumpikaan versio ei toimi, kissat eivät erotu kunnolla. Sitten kokeilin kissojen  vedostusta niin, että vain kissojen naaman keskiosa on keltainen. Tämä toimi paremmin, mutta kissat näyttävät aika pelottavilta eivätkä niiden muodot näy niin kuin toivoisin. Miten olisi värillinen tausta ja mustat kissat? En niin helpolla luovuta!

Disaster! I imagined my linocut of two angry cats so, that the cut off cats would be yellow and the background black. First I tried to print the cats pale yellow on the black background and then a bit darker yellow cats. Neither of them did work, the cats are not visib le enough. Then I tried to print the cats so, that only the middle of the cats´ faces is yellow. This works better but the cats seem quite scary and their shapes are not what I hoped for. How about colour on the background and black cats? I will not surrender so easily!'

VIHAISET KISSAT / ANGRY CATS

 Kaksi vihaista linokissaa on nyt leikattu irti muusta kuvasta. Aion vedostaa ne eri värillä kuin muun kuvan. Onkohan tämä kokeilu päätymässä roskakoriin? Taustalla on Pispalan haulitornin ja Pyynikin näkötornin lisäksi Iideskarin majakka, purjevene ja lintu sekä Pispalan taloja.

Two angry lino cats are now cut off the rest of the picture. I´m planning to print them with a different colour than the other part of the picture. Is this experiment going to a bin? In the background there are in addition to Pispala shot tower and Pyynikki observation tower the lighthouse on Iideskari, a sailing boat, a bird and Pispala houses.

KAKSI VIHAISTA KISSAA / TWO ANGRY CATS

 Tuleekohan tästä linopiirroksesta mitään. Ajatuksenani on leikata kaiverretusta linolevystä irti kaksi pyöreää kissaa ja vedostaa ne eri värillä kuin muu kuva. Taustalla on pari Tampereen maamerkkiä: Pispalan haulitorni ja Pyynikin näkötorni sekä järvi. Kissat näyttävät niin vihaisilta.

Will this linocut be at all ok. I´m planning to cut off two round cats from the carved lino plate and print them with a different colour from the other picture. In the background there are a couple of Tampere landmarks: Pispala shot tower and Pyynikki observation tower. The cats are looking so angry.

PISPALAN HAULITORNI ( SININEN) : 3 / PISPALA SHOT TOWER (BLUE): 3

 Kolmannessa sinisessä versiossa pastellitaivaasta ja Pispalan haulitorni-linosta on sekä linokuu että erilliset linopalaset rannoista. Valkoiseksi jätetty järvi näyttää melkein talviselta. Pari pilveä lipuu taivaalla ohi huipulla huojuvan kopin, jossa joku tekee työtään. Tässäkin taivaanranta on oranssi. Yksi pohja vielä on jäljellä, ja siinä on rantapalojen lisäksi iso kuu.

The third blue version of a pastel sky and Pispala shot tower has both a lino moon and separate lino pieces for shores. The white surface of the lake looks almost like wintry or icy. A couple clouds are floating in the sky past the wobbly booth at the top of the tower, where someone is working. Also here the horizon is orange. One "base" is still left, and there is a big moon in addition to the pieces for shores. 

PISPALAN HAULITORNI ( SININEN): 2 / PISPALA SHOT TOWER (BLUE): 2

 

Toinen uusi versio sinisestä pastellitaivaasta ja Pispalan haulitornista sai erillisten rantakappaleiden sijaan oranssin linokuun. Kuun oranssi väri toistuu taivaanrannassa. Nytkin joku on nähtävästi töissä kopissaan tornin huipulla. Pastellitaivasta on tosi meditatiivista tehdä, etenkin noiden portaiden kohdalla, jossa koloja riittää.

The second new version of blue pastel sky and Pispala shot tower got an orange lino moon  instead of the separate lino pieces of shores. The orange colour of the moon is repeated on the horizon. Also now there seems to be someone working in his hut at the top of the tower. It´s really meditative to make the pastel sky, especially around the stairs, where there is enough of holes and crannies. 

PISPALAN HAULITORNI ( SININEN): 1 / PISPALA SHOT TOWER (BLUE):1

 Syksyisin yleensä on aika tehdä muutama uusi versio linopiirros & pastellitaivas -töistä, aiheena Pispalan haulitorni. Olen aiemmin vedostanut "pohjia", joissa on linopiirros haulitornista, ehkä myös linopalat rannoista ja kuusta. Nyt voin lisätä näihin pohjiin pastellitaivaan. Taivas on nyt aika tumman sininen, pari pilvenhaituvaa seilaa ohi tornin ja tornissa palaa valo. Taivaanrannassa on vielä laskevan auringon valo. Nämä haulitornikuvat ovat aika pieniä, 30 x 20 cm eli A4.

Usually it´s autumn when I want to make some new versions of linocut & pastel sky works, the subject is Pispala shot tower. I have printed earlier "bases" with a linocut of the shot tower, perhaps also small lino parts for shores and moon. Now I can just add pastel sky to these bases. The sky is now quite dark blue, a couple of small clouds are floating by the tower, and there is light inside the tower. The light of a setting sun can be seen on the horizon. These shot tower pictures are rather small, 30 x 20 cm ia. A4.
