YÖ VÄISTYY YLTÄ KATTOJEN / THE NIGHT RECEDES FROM THE ROOFTOPS

 

Valmis! Pispalan ylle nousee linnunrata - muistuttaa jotain taivallista räjähdystä. Taivas on täynnä tähtiä ja lentelee siellä muutama sudenkorentokin. Pispalan harjulla haulitorni on väritetty punaiseksi tussilla. Alaosa ja korennot ovat linopiirroksia, taivas pehmeää pastellia. Kuvan koko on 88 x 39 cm. Nimensä kuva sai Juice Leskisen kappaleesta Afroditen poika: " Yö väistyy yltä kattojen ja valon nähdä saan, kun yksin ulos tuijotan".

Ready! The Milky Way rises above Pispala - reminiscent of some celestial explosion. The sky is full of stars and a few dragonflies are flying there. The shot tower on the Pispala ridge has been colored red with a marker. The lower part and the dragonflies are linocuts, the sky is soft pastel. The size of the picture is 88 x 39 cm. The picture got its name from Juice Leskinen's song Aphrodite's son: "The night recedes from the rooftops and I can see the light, when I stare out alone".

TÄHDET TAIVAALLE / STARS IN THE SKY : 4

Linnunradan ympärille alkoi nyt tulla tähtiä, isompia ja paljon pienempiä. Tähdetkin ovat pastellia, mutta joukossa on myös tussilla tehtyjä. Oikealla reunalla paistaa pienen pieni kuunsirppi.

Stars began to appear around the Milky Way, larger and much smaller. The stars are also pastel, but there are also some made with markers. A tiny crescent moon shines on the right edge.

Pispalan harjun ylle alkoi nyt muodostua pastelliliiduilla linnunrataa. Varmasti taivaalle on myös tulossa tähtiä, keltaista, sinistä, violettia.

The Milky Way is now starting to form over the Pispala ridge in pastel chalk. There are certainly stars coming into the sky too, yellow, blue, purple.

Pispalan ylle kaartuu nyt keltainen pastellitaivas, ehkä auringonlaskua tai nousua. Linopiirros sudenkorennosta näyttää nyt tosi isolta, mutta minäkö välittäisin perspektiivistä - no en!

AINA JATKUU ELÄMÄ / LIFE ALWAYS GOES ON

 

Aika värikäs taivas tuli tähän linopiirros-pastellityöhön sarjaan isomman kokoisia sekatekniikkatöitä. Tämän kuvan koko on 50 x 60 cm. Alaosassa on linopiirros Pispalasn harjusta, haulitorni, Pispalan koulu ja Pyynikin näkötorni sekä tietenkin pitkät portaat. Oranssi kuu ja sudenkorennot ovat myös linopiirroksia. Korentojen siipiin lisäsin hiukan väriä käsin värittämällä  Ja sitten tuo pastellitaivas, on siinä väriä , ja sitä oli kiva sotkea. Kuvan nimi on  "Aina jatkuu elämä. Aina tanssii tuulet" Juice Leskisen kappaleesta Tanssimaa.

A rather colorful sky came into this linocut-pastel work in a series of larger mixed media works. The size of this picture is 50 x 60 cm. At the bottom there is a linocut of the Pispala ridge, the shot tower, Pispala school and Pyynikki observation tower and of course the long stairs. The orange moon and the dragonflies are also linocuts. I added a little color to the wings of the dragonflies by hand coloring. And then that pastel sky, there is color in it, and it was nice to mess it up. The name of the picture is "Aina jatkuu elämä. Aina tanssii tuulet" / Life Always Goes On. The Winds Always Dance" from Juice Leskinen's song Tanssimaa.

SINISTÄ, PUNAISTA JA KELTAISTA TAIVASTA / BLUE, RED AND YELLOW SKY

 

Ukonkorentojen taakse tulevasta pastellitaivaasta tuleekin aika monivärinen. Vaaleanvihreän korennon takana on tummempaa sinistä taivasta ja tummempien ukonkorentojen takana on sitten vaaleampaa keltaista. Oikeaan yläkulmaan on tulossa punaista taivasta. Tämä vaatii vielä virittelyä.

The pastel sky behind the dragonflies is becoming quite multi-colored. Behind the light green dragonfly there is a darker blue sky, and behind the darker dragonflies there is a lighter yellow. A red sky is coming to the upper right corner. This still needs some tuning.

KORENNOT / DRAGONFLIES

Taivaalle lensi kolme linopiirrosta ukonkorennoista, yksi on vihertävä. Oranssi kuu ja Pispalan rinne alhaalla ovat myös linopiirroksia. Seuraavaksi aion tehdä taivaan korentojen taustalle pastelliliiduilla.

Three linocuts of dragonflies flew into the sky, one is greenish. The orange moon and the Pispala ridge below are also linocuts. Next I plan to make the sky in the background of the dragonflies with pastel chalks.

 

IKUINEN RAKKAUS / ETERNAL LOVE

 

Nyt sain tämäm sekatekniikkatyön pilvetkin sellaisiksi, että pidän niistä. Taivas on sininen, mutta pilvissä on pientä syksyn tuntua. Kuvassa on pieniä punaisia osia: kissat, taivaanranta, naurava auringon sydän ja muutamia pilkkuja ukonkorentojen siivissä. Ja aika paljon erillisiä ja eri väreillä vedostettuja linopiirrroksia: kissat, pispalan talot, ukonkorennot ja aurinko. Työ sai nimensä Juice Leskisen laulusta Ikuinen rakkaus: " Rakkaus on ikuinen - mihin rakkaus päättyy, mä tiedä en".

Now I got the clouds of this mixed technology work to the point that I like them. The sky is blue, but there is a slight feeling of autumn in the clouds. There are small red parts in the picture: cats, the sky in the horizon, the laughing heart of the sun and a few specks on the wings of dragon flies. And quite a lot of separate linocuts printed in different colors: cats, Pispala's houses, dragonflies and the sun. The work got its name from Juice Leskinen's song Eternal Love: "Love Is Eternal - Where Does Love End, I Don't Know".

SYKSYN VÄRIÄ / AUTUMN COLOUR

 

Pastellitaivasta ilmestyi ukonkorentojen taakse. Taivas on aika sininen vielä, vain taivaanrannassa näkyy hiukan punaista kaloa ja pilviä. Linopiirrokset ukonkorennoista saivat myös väriä siipiinsä, pastellikynää ja tussia.

A pastel sky appeared behind the big dragonflies. The sky is still quite blue, only a little red and clouds can be seen on the horizon. Linocuts of dragonflies also got color in their wings, pastel pencil and felt-tip pen.

SYKSYN KORENNOT / AUTUMN DRAGONFLIES

Pispalan ylle lennähti kolme aika isoa ukonkorentoa, linopiirroksia nekin. Aikomus on hiukan värittää käsin korentoja. Ja sitten se jännittävä ja yllättävin osuus - pastellitaivas seuraavaksi.

Three rather large dragonflies flew over Pispala, linocuts as well. The intention is to slightly color the dragonflies by hand. And then the exciting and most surprising part - the pastel sky next.

KALAT VEDESSÄ / FISH IN THE WATER

 

Linopiirros kalasta pitää vedostaa niin, että vain kalan pää on veden yläpuolella. Silloin renkaat kalan ympärillä näyttävät olevan veden pinnassa. Lisäsin tähän kokeiluun koristepaperilla pieniä linokaloja ja sudenkorennon. Kokeilin myös niin, että hiukan enemmän kalan päätä on veden yläpuolella - ei toimi.

The linocut of the fish must be printed so that only the head of the fish is above the water. Then the rings around the fish appear to be on the surface of the water. I added small lino fish and a dragonfly to this experiment with decorative paper. I also tried so that a little more of the fish's head is above the water - doesn't work.

KARKELOT - SARJA / GALORES SERIES

Karkelot -sarjassani on nyt viisi työtä. Kaikki ovat kooltaan 50 x 30 cm. Kuvissa on yhdistettynä sekä linopiirroksia että pastellitaivasta. Eiköhän tämä sarja ole tässä, ainakin nyt siltä tuntuu. Sarjassa on korrojen, lintujen, korentojen, perhosten ja kissojen karkelot. Linnut ja kissat on jo myyty. Muita ajattelin tarjota ensi kesän Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttelyyn, mutta saa nyt nähdä järjestetäänkö näyttelyä koronaviruspandemian kehittyessä. Talvinäyttely Iittalassa jo suljettiin ennen maaliskuun loppua, jolloin sen piti vasta loppua. Mutta suunnitelmia erilaisten naivististen verkkomarkkinoiden avaamiselle on olemassa ja Naivistit Iittalassa -sivulla onkin jo avautunut laajennettu taideteosten taidelainaamo. There are now five works in my Galore -series. All of them are sized 50 x 30 cm. Both linocuts and pastel skies are combined in these works. This is the series now, at least I feel like that just now. In this series there are Bugs, Birds, Dragonflies, Butterflies and Cats Galores. Birds and cats are already sold. The rest I planned to offer for the Naïve Artists in Iittala exhibition next summer, but it remains to be seen if the exhibition will be organized due to coronavirus pandemic developments. The Winter exhibition in Iittala was already closed before the end of March when it was supposed to end. But plans for opening of different Naïve Internet markets do exist, and there has opened an extended art loan service in the pages of Naïve Artists in Iittala. More is coming along.

KORENTOJEN KARKELOT / DRAGONFLIES GALORE

Korentojen karkelot, uusi työ Karkelot-sarjaani on nyt valmis. Tämäkin versio on 50 x 30 cm kokoinen ja koostuu linopiirroksista sekä pastellitaivaasta. Taivas olikin nyt aika hidas tehdä pehmeillä pastelliväreillä, sillä vedostin kuvaan kymmenen linopiirrosta korennoista ennen taivaan värittämistä. Korentojen välissä ja ympärillä oli hurja määrä pieniä väritettäviä koloja. Joissakin vastaavissa töissä olen värittänyt ensin taivaan pastelleilla ja laittanut myöhemmin vedostettvien linopiirrosten paikalle sapluunat. Mutta noin on sitten vaikeaa saada linopiirrokset vedostetuksi tismalleen paikoilleen, ja aina jää linojen ympärille kohtia, jotka pitää "paikata" pastelleilla. Ehkä pidän tästä nykyisestä tavasta enemmän. Minua ei haittaa, että taivas on hiukan laikukas. Pidän tuosta kuun heijastuksesta järveen alaosan linopiirroksessa. Korennot on käsin väritetty.

Dragonflies Galore, a new work in my series of Galores is now ready. The size of this work is also 50 x 30 cm, and it consists of linocuts and a pastel sky. Well, the sky was rather slow to make at this time with soft pastel colours because I printed ten linocuts of dragonflies before colouring the sky. Between and around the dragonflies there were a huge amount of tiny holes to colour. In a few similar works I have coloured first the sky with pastels and put stencils on the places of the later printed linocuts. But this way it´s difficult to print the linocuts just at their right places, and there always remains spots around the linocuts which I have to "patch" with pastels. Perhaps I like the current way better. I´n not bothered that the sky is a bit mottled. And I like that reflection of the moon on the linocut of the lake at the bottom. The dragonflies are coloured by hand.

Korentojen karkelot jatkuvat. Nyt on kuvaan vedostettu kymmenen linopiirrosta neidon-, suden ja ukonkorennoista taivas täyteen. Taivas korentojen takana on väritetty pehmeillä pastelliliiduilla. Korennot selvästi tarvitsevat väriä siipiinsä, se on siis seuraava työvaihe.

Dragonflies Galore is continuing. Now I printed the sky full of linocuts of different species of dragonflies, small, medium and large, ten all together  The sky behind the dragonflies was coloured with soft pastels. The dragonflies clearly need some colour on their wings, so that is the next phase of work.

Linoleikkaukseen kissasta laiturilla on hauska lisätä ja muunnella taivasta. Tässä kolmannessa versiossa tein taivaalle pilviä pastelliväreillä ja vedostin sitten korennot ja auringon päälle.

It's fun to change and add something to the sky in my linocut of a cat on a dock. In this third version I made some clouds in the sky with pastel colours and printed the separate dragonflies and the sun then on the sky.

KIMALTAVAT SUDENKORENNOT / SPARKLY DRAGONFLIES

Kokeilin vedostaa linoleikkaukseen kissasta laiturilla sudenkorennot kahdella värillä: sinisellä ja punaisella. Lisäsin vielä korentojen siipiin kimalletta. Tein myös pienempiä sudenkorentoja samalla tekniikalla ja aion kiinnittää ne japanilaiselle kuviopaperille.

I tested to print dragonflies to my linocut of a cat on a dock with two colours: red and blue. I added even some glitter to the wings of the dragonflies. I made smaller dragonflies with the same technique, and I plan to attach them to a patterned Japanese paper.

Lisäsin linoleikkaukseen kissasta laiturilla useita eri kokoisia korentoja, ukonkorennon, sudenkorentoja ja neidonkorennon. Korennothan ovat aikamoisia petoja, ja tässä ne ovat suurentuneet pöriseviksi lentokoneiksi kissan mielessä. Aion vielä kokeilla pastellipiirroksen yhdistämistä tähän kuvaan.

I added several different-sized dragonflies to my linocut of a cat sitting on a dock. Dragonflies are actually quite the beasts, and in this picture they have grown into buzzing airplanes in the mind of a cat. I plan to try and mix pastel drawing to this picture.
