PETOKISSA / TYGER : 7

Valmis! Väriä on nyt lisätty sekä perhosten siipiin että kissan turkkiin. Tämän linopastellin koko on 50 x 30 cm. Kaikki muu paitsi pastellitaivas on linopiirroksia. Työn nimeksi tuli ihan itsestään "Petokissa" William Blaken runon Tyger,Tyger! mukaan. Merja Virolaisen suomennos on tällainen: Petokissa lieska on valottoman viidakon.

Done! Color has now been added to both the butterfly wings and the cat's fur. The size of this lino pastel is 50 x 30 cm. Everything else except the pastel sky is linocut. The name of the work came naturally to me, "Tyger" after William Blake's poem Tyger, Tyger!.

MELKEIN VALMIS / ALMOST THERE : 6

 

Sekatekniikkatyö, linopstelli kissasta puussa perhosineen on melkein valmis. Perhosten lisäksi taivaalle tupsahti muutama hyönteinen ja koppakuoriainen. vielä tarvitaan hiukan lisää väriä kissan turkkiin ja perhosten siipiin.

The mixed media work, a linocut & pastel of a cat in a tree with butterflies, is almost finished. In addition to the butterflies, a few insects and a beetle flew into the sky. There is still need of a little more color for the cat's fur and the butterflies' wings.

PERHOSET KUVAAN / BUTTERFLIES IN THE PICTURE : 5

Perhoset paikoilleen taivaalle. Tässä vaiheessa voi vielä tehdä virheitä ja pilata koko työn, pudottaa linopiirroksen perhosesta vahingossa paperille, sutata linoa irroittaessaan tai vain tehdä huonon vedoksen, liian paljon tai liian vähän mustetta ja mitä vielä. haasteellista ja hauskaa puuhaa!

Butterflies in place in the sky. At this stage, you can still make mistakes and ruin the whole job, accidentally drop the linocut of the butterfly on the paper, mess up the lino when removing it or just make a bad print, too much or too little ink and whatnot. Challenging and fun activity!

KISSALLE RAITOJA / STRIPES ON THE CAT : 4

 Pastellitaivas alkoi olla valmis, mutta kissaa ei oikein erottunut puun lehvistöstä. Siispä lisäsin kissan turkkiin keltaisia raitoja värittämällä käsin. ehkä tarvitaan vielä lisääkin väriä raitoihin...

The pastel sky was starting to look finished, but it didn't really see the cat from the tree foliage. So I added yellow stripes to the cat's fur by hand coloring. Maybe I need more color for the stripes...

PASTELLIA KISSAN YLLE /PASTEL OVER THE CAT : 3

 

Kissa puussa sai nyt pastellitaivaan ylleen . Ehkä tämä on iltataivas,  sinistä ja kellanpunaista.  Valkoiset paikat on varattu perhosille. Puiden välistä pilkottaa punainen kuu.

 The cat in the tree is now under a pastel sky. Maybe this is the evening sky, blue and yellow-red. The white spaces are reserved for butterflies. A red moon peeks through the trees.

PERHOSIA / BUTTERFLIES : 2

 Puussa olevan kissan yläpuolelle on tulossa linopiirroksia: parvi perhosia. Tein perhosista muovisrt sapluunat, joiden avulla pystyn jättämään perhoslinoille vaaleat paikat taivaalle ja vedostaa ne viimeisinä. Käytän pahvisia paspartuureja reunojen rajaukseen ja suojaukseen.

Above the cat in the tree, linocuts are coming: a flock of butterflies. I made plastic stencils of the butterflies, which allow me to leave light spots in the sky for the butterfly linocuts and print them last. I use cardboard mats to outline and protect the edges.

PÄÄSEN LÄHEMMÄKSI ELÄMÄÄ / I GET CLOSER TO LIFE

 

Perhoset pinkin kuun ympärillä saivat hiukan väriä siipiinsä. Perhoset, samoin kuin kuu ovat erillisiä linopiirroksia. Alhaalla oleva kuva Pispalan sotkuisesta pihasta ja portaista on myös linopiirros. Taivas on pehmeää pastellia. Tämä sekatekniikatyö kuuluu sarjaani isompia taivaskuvia, 70 x 40 cm. Pilvet eivät tunnu koskaan menettävän voimaansa, aina ne vaan inspiroivat, aina olisi jotain voinut tehdä vielä eri lailla. No, seuraavaan kertaan! Tämä työ sai nimensä Juicen kappaleesta Pyhä toimitus: "Pääsen lähemmäksi elämää".

The butterflies around the pink moon got a little color in their wings. The butterflies, as well as the moon, are separate linocuts. The picture below of Pispala's messy yard and stairs is also a linocut. The sky is a soft pastel. This mixed media work belongs to my series of larger sky pictures, 70 x 40 cm. The clouds never seem to lose their power, they always inspire, something could always have been done differently. Well, until next time! This picture got its name after Juice´s song Holy Ceremony: "I Get Closer To Life".

PERHOSTEN TANSSI KUUN YMPÄRILLÄ / BUTTERFLIES DANCING AROUND THE MOON

Pastellitaivasta tehdessä jätin sapluunoiden avulla linopiirrosperhosten vedostusta varten tyhjät paikat. Sitten vedostin nuo perhoset, oikeastaan linoleimasimet tyhjille paikoille. Nyt perhoset kaipaavat vielä väriä siipiinsä, ja sen teen käsin.

When making the pastel sky, I used the templates to fill out the empty spaces for printing the linocut butterflies. Then I printed those butterflies, actually lino stamps on the empty places. Now the butterflies still need color on their wings, and I do that by hand.

YMPYRÖITÄ / RINGS

 Pyöreä linopiirros vaaleanpunaisesta kuusta Pispalan piha-linopiirroksen yllä houkutteli tekemään pastellitaivaankin värit ympyrään kuun ympärille - vaaleaa kuun ympärillä ja tummaa taivaanrannassa. Nyt asettelen linopiirroksia perhosista myös ympyrään kuun ympärille.

The round pink linocut of the pink moon above Pispala's yard linocut tempted me to make even the colors of the pastel sky in a circle around the moon - light around the moon and dark in the horizon. Now I also arrange linocuts of butterflies in a circle around the moon.

PILVET PITKIN TAIVASTA / CLOUDS ALONG THE SKY

 

Viisi perhosta, kaksi lintua ja hyönteinen (kaikki linopiirroksia) on nyt vedostettu oranssin linokuun ympärille pastellipilvien päälle. Kuvan alaosassa on linopiirros Pispalan talosta ja pihasta. Tämäkin sekatekniikkatyö (linopiirros/pastelli/tussi) sai nimensä Juice Leskisen lyriikasta: Pilvet pitkin taivasta (kappaleesta Aamu alkaa A:lla). Yksi perhosista on väritetty keltaiseksi. Tuntuu, että näitä isomman sarjan (70 x 40 cm) sekatekniikkoja tulee edelleen lisää.

Five butterflies, two birds and an insect are now printed around the orange linocut moon on the pastel clouds. At the bottom of the picture there is a linocut of a Pispala house and yard. This mixed media work (linocut / pastel / ink) got also its name from the lyrics of Juice Leskinen: Clouds Along the Sky (from a song Morning Begins with an A). One of the butterflies is coloured yellow. It feels that there will be more of these in my larger series (70 x 40 cm) of mixed media works.

KUU JA PERHOSET - jatkoa / MOON AND BUTTERFLIES - Continuing

 Pastellitaivas on aina yllätys. Nyt taivaalle tuli joukko kellanruskeita pilviä, jotka hiukan toistavat kuun ruosteenpunaa. Jätin tyhjiä aukkoja perhosia varten taivaalle ja yritin häivyttää aukkojen reunoja, jotta perhosten vedostus olisi helpompaa kun ei ole ihan tarkkoja rajoja. Illalla aurinko väritti työn laskiessaan, ja siihen tuli ihan oma tunnelmansa. Tuon kun saisi vangituksi!

The pastel sky is always a surprise. Now there came into the sky a bunch of yellowish and brownish clouds, which are like repeating the rusty red colour of the moon. I left empty spaces for the butterflies and tried to fade the borders of the spaces, so the printing of the butterflies would be easier when there are no exact border lines. In the evening the sun coloured the work, and it got its own atmosphere. If I only could capture that! 

KUU JA PERHOSET / MOON AND BUTTERFLIES

Aloitin yhden uuden isomman sarjan (70 x 40 cm) linopiirros ja pastellityötä. Tähän on tulossa perhosia, pari uuttakin pientä linoperhosta. Oranssi kuu ja alaosan Pispalan piha, molemmat linopiirroksia on jo vedostettu. Mallinnan hiukan jo perhosia kuvaan.

I started a new larger series (70 x 40 cm) linocut and pastel work. There will be butterflies in the sky, a couple new small lino butterflies. The orange moon and a Pispala yard, both of them linocuts are already printed. I´m modelling already some butterflies on the picture.

 

UUSIA LINOPERHOSIA / NEW LINO BUTTERFLIES

 

Tein kaksi uutta perhosta linopiirroksina. Nämä ovat aika pieniä "leimasimia", noin 10 x 10 cm. Näitäkin on tarkoitus käyttää sekatekniikkatöissä, lino/pastelleissa ja yhdessä monoprinttien kanssa. Saa nähdä mitä keksin.

I made two new linocuts of butterflies. These are quite small "stamps", about 10 x 10 cm. I´m going to use also these in mixed media works, lino & pastels and with monoprints. Let´s see what there will be.

JA PERHOSET PALASIVAT KOTIIN / AND THE BUTTERFLIES RETURNED HOME

Tämä sekatekniikkatyö sai itsestään selvän nimen "Ja perhoset palasivat kotiin" . Pispalan harjulta näkee kun höyrylaiva palaa sekin kotiin kun suuri oranssi kuu möllöttää jo taivaalla. Kuun valo heijastuu pilviin, mutta siellä näkyy vielä kirkasta päivänsineäkin. Ajattelin värittää linoperhoset käsin, mutta ne jäävätkin nyt mustavalkoisiksi. Muistuttavat minusta jotenkin pitsiä. Yksi hyönteinenkin eksyi joukkoon. Tämä on isompaa sarjaani lino/pastelleja, 70 x 40 cm ja menossa nyt kesän Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttelyyn.

This mixed media is obviously called "And the Butterflies Returned Home". You can see from the Pispala ridge how a steam boat is returning home when a huge orange moon is already roaring in the sky. The light of the moon is reflected in the clouds, but you can still see abit of bright blue spots of the day. I planned to colour the linocuts of butterflies by hand but now they remain black and white. They remind me somehow of lace. One insects did also got lost in the crowd. This one is part of my series of larger linocut & pastels: 70m x 40 cm, and it is now going to Naïve Artist in Iittala summer exhibition.

 Pastellitaivaasta tuli sininen keltaisen kuun ympärille ja pilviharsoinen oikeaan yläkulmaan, jonne aion vedostaa linopiirroksia perhosista.

The pastel sky came rather blue around the yellow moon and mottled cloudy on the upper right corner where I plan to print some linocuts of butterflies.

PERHOSET PALASIVAT KOTIIN / BUTTERFLIES RETURNING HOME

 Uusi pastellitaivas on suunnitteilla isompaan sarjaan lino/pastellitöitä, 70 x 40 cm. Tässä versiossa alaosassa näkyy höyrylaiva ja Pispalan harjun korkein kohta. Yläosaan suunnittelen isoa kuuta ja perhosparvea. Sekä alaosa että kuu ja perhoset ovat linopiirroksia.

A new pastel sky is under planning for my larger series of linocuts & pastel drawings, 70 x 40 cm. In this version there is a steam boat at the bottom and the highest spot of Pispala ridge. I´m planning to add a big moon  and butterflies in the upper part of the picture. Both the bottom part, moon and butterflies are linocuts.

KARKELOT - SARJA / GALORES SERIES

Karkelot -sarjassani on nyt viisi työtä. Kaikki ovat kooltaan 50 x 30 cm. Kuvissa on yhdistettynä sekä linopiirroksia että pastellitaivasta. Eiköhän tämä sarja ole tässä, ainakin nyt siltä tuntuu. Sarjassa on korrojen, lintujen, korentojen, perhosten ja kissojen karkelot. Linnut ja kissat on jo myyty. Muita ajattelin tarjota ensi kesän Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttelyyn, mutta saa nyt nähdä järjestetäänkö näyttelyä koronaviruspandemian kehittyessä. Talvinäyttely Iittalassa jo suljettiin ennen maaliskuun loppua, jolloin sen piti vasta loppua. Mutta suunnitelmia erilaisten naivististen verkkomarkkinoiden avaamiselle on olemassa ja Naivistit Iittalassa -sivulla onkin jo avautunut laajennettu taideteosten taidelainaamo. There are now five works in my Galore -series. All of them are sized 50 x 30 cm. Both linocuts and pastel skies are combined in these works. This is the series now, at least I feel like that just now. In this series there are Bugs, Birds, Dragonflies, Butterflies and Cats Galores. Birds and cats are already sold. The rest I planned to offer for the Naïve Artists in Iittala exhibition next summer, but it remains to be seen if the exhibition will be organized due to coronavirus pandemic developments. The Winter exhibition in Iittala was already closed before the end of March when it was supposed to end. But plans for opening of different Naïve Internet markets do exist, and there has opened an extended art loan service in the pages of Naïve Artists in Iittala. More is coming along.

PERHOSTEN KARKELOT / BUTTERFLIES GALORE

Kuusi perhosta ja hopeinen kuu Pispalan yllä, tämä on Perhosten  karkelot. Tässä työssä on yhdistetty linopiirroksia (alaosan maisema, kuu ja perhoset) pastellitaivaaseen. Auringonlasku on aika dramaattisen oranssi, ja samaa sävyä on kahden perhosen siivissä. Perhoset on väritetty käsin erilaisilla tusseilla ja pastellikynillä. Kuvasta tuli värikkäämpi kuin kuvittelin. Koko on sama kuin näissä lino-pastellisarjan muissakin töissä: 50 x 30 cm.

Six butterflies and a silvery moon over Pispala, this is Butterflies Galore. There is a combination of linocuts (the scene at the bottom, moon and butterflies) and pastel sky. The sunset is quite dramatic orange, and there is same hue on the wings of two butterflies.  The butterflies are coloured by hand with different markers and pastel pens. The picture is more colourful than I thought. The size is same as in also in the other linocut & pastel works in this series: 50 x 30 cm.

PERHOSTEN KARKELOT - aloitusta / BUTTERFLIES GALORE - Beginning

Karkelot-sarjaan on nyt tulossa Perhosten karkelot. Tässä kuvassa on alareunassa linopiirros Pispalan taloista ja portaat alas järven rantaan. Taivaalla loistaa hopeavärillä vedostettu linokuu. Myös perhoset ovat linopiirroksia, ja näistä voi tunnistaa jopa jotain perhoslajeja: ritariperhonen ja herukkaperhonen ainakin. Kuun ulkoreunoille levitin vedostettaessa hiukan sinistä väriä, jotta hopeinen kuu erottautuisi paremmin taustastaan. Seuraavaksi perhoset saavat hiukan väriä siipiinsä käsin värittämällä.

One Galore more is coming to my series of Galores: now it´s Butterflies Galore. There is a linocut on the bottom of the picture, Pispala houses and stairs down to the shore of a lake. A moon printed with silver colour is glimmering in the sky. The butterflies are also linocuts, and you can even recognize some species of butterflies, at least a Papilio machaon and a Polygonia c-album. I spread a bit blue colour on the outer side of the moon when printing, so the moon would separate better from its background. Next I will colour the butterflies by hand.
