IKUINEN RAKKAUS / ETERNAL LOVE

 

Nyt sain tämäm sekatekniikkatyön pilvetkin sellaisiksi, että pidän niistä. Taivas on sininen, mutta pilvissä on pientä syksyn tuntua. Kuvassa on pieniä punaisia osia: kissat, taivaanranta, naurava auringon sydän ja muutamia pilkkuja ukonkorentojen siivissä. Ja aika paljon erillisiä ja eri väreillä vedostettuja linopiirrroksia: kissat, pispalan talot, ukonkorennot ja aurinko. Työ sai nimensä Juice Leskisen laulusta Ikuinen rakkaus: " Rakkaus on ikuinen - mihin rakkaus päättyy, mä tiedä en".

Now I got the clouds of this mixed technology work to the point that I like them. The sky is blue, but there is a slight feeling of autumn in the clouds. There are small red parts in the picture: cats, the sky in the horizon, the laughing heart of the sun and a few specks on the wings of dragon flies. And quite a lot of separate linocuts printed in different colors: cats, Pispala's houses, dragonflies and the sun. The work got its name from Juice Leskinen's song Eternal Love: "Love Is Eternal - Where Does Love End, I Don't Know".

SYKSYN VÄRIÄ / AUTUMN COLOUR

 

Pastellitaivasta ilmestyi ukonkorentojen taakse. Taivas on aika sininen vielä, vain taivaanrannassa näkyy hiukan punaista kaloa ja pilviä. Linopiirrokset ukonkorennoista saivat myös väriä siipiinsä, pastellikynää ja tussia.

A pastel sky appeared behind the big dragonflies. The sky is still quite blue, only a little red and clouds can be seen on the horizon. Linocuts of dragonflies also got color in their wings, pastel pencil and felt-tip pen.

SYKSYN KORENNOT / AUTUMN DRAGONFLIES

Pispalan ylle lennähti kolme aika isoa ukonkorentoa, linopiirroksia nekin. Aikomus on hiukan värittää käsin korentoja. Ja sitten se jännittävä ja yllättävin osuus - pastellitaivas seuraavaksi.

Three rather large dragonflies flew over Pispala, linocuts as well. The intention is to slightly color the dragonflies by hand. And then the exciting and most surprising part - the pastel sky next.

UKONKORENTO / DRAGONFLY

Aiemmin tehdyssä linopiirroksessa Pispalan talojen yllä lentävästä ukonkorennossa minua häiritsi, ettei siinä juurikaan ollut väriä. Niinpä lisäsin korennon siipiin keltaista ja vihreää ja nyt se jo näyttää minusta paremmalta. Jos kerran kissa kuvan alalaidassa on keltainen, niin pitäähän  korennossakin olla väriä. Pastellitaivaalla pilvien reunoilla kimaltalee. Kuvan kokmo on 50 x 30 cm.

In an earlier linocut of a dragonfly flying over the houses of Pispala, I was disturbed by the fact that there was not much color in it. So I added yellow and green to the wings of the dragonfly and now it already looks better to me. If the cat at the bottom of the picture is yellow, then there must be color in the wings as well. In the pastel sky, the edges of the clouds sparkle. The size of the picture is 50 x 30 cm.

KORENNOT TAIVAALLE / DRAGONFLIES INTO THE SKY

 

Lyhyt video siitä, miten linopiirrokset korennoista, kuusta, Pispalasta, höyrylaivasta ja järvestä yhdistyivät pastellitaivaaseen. Tämä sarja lino/pastelleista (tai oikeastaan kaksi sarjaa: pienempi 50 x 30 cm ja isompi 70 x 40 cm) tuntuu olevan loputon. Aina vaan mieleen putkahtaa uusia yhdistelmiä jo olemassa olevista linopiirroksista (joskus tosin teen myös uusia palasia tarvittaessa) ja pastellitaivaat tuottavat aina jonkinlaisen yllätyksen. Näissä töissä yhdistyvät intohimoni grafiikkaan ja värit. Ja sekin inspiroi, että taiteen ystävät tuntuvat pitävän näistä lino/pastelleista. Olen kiitollinen!

Nimikin tällekin työlle löytyi Juice Leskisen lyriikasta: Rannoilla vuolemme lastuja laineisiin laulusta Norjalainen villapaita.

A short video about the mixing together linocuts of dragonflies, moon, Pispala, steam boat,  lake and a pastel sky. This series of lino/pastels (or actually two series: smaller 50 x 30 cm and larger 70 x 40 cm) seems to be endless. It just always pops into my mind new combinations already existing linocuts (sometimes I still make new ones if needed), and pastel skies always produce some kind of surprises. In these work I combine my passion for graphics and colour. And it is also inspiring, that the friends of art seem to like these lino/pastels. I´m grateful!

And I found the name for this work also from Juice Leskinen´s lyrics: Our Flow of Chips Into Waves (Rannoilla vuolemme lastuja laineisiin) from the song Norwegian Sweater.

HÖYRYLAIVA JA KORENNOT / STEAM BOAT AND DRAGONFLIES

Tähän linopiirros/pastellityöhön ilmestyikin viisi sudenkorentoa (linopiirroksia) ja yksi ukonkorento sinisen kuun ympärille. Kuun takana on hento keltainen valo. Jätin taivaanrajaan neljä vaaleaa pilkkua/pilveä, sillä ne muistuttavat hauskasta hiukan avaruusaluksia tai ufoja. En aio värittää ukonkorennon siipiä, kuten suunnittelin. Tällä 70 x 40 cm kuvalla ei ole vielä nimeä.

There appeared five smaller daragonflies (linocuts) and one larger one around the blue moon on this linocut & pastel work. A delicate yellow light is behind the moon. I left four lighter spots / clouds on the horizon, because they remind me a bit of space ships or ufos. I will not colour the wings of the large dragonfly as I initially planned. This 70 x 40 cm picture has not yet a name.

KORENTOJA - aloitusta / DRAGONFLIES - Beginning

Aloittelen uutta linopiirros ja pastellityötä isompaan sarjaan. Kuvan koko on 70 x 40 cm. Alaosassa on linopiirros Pispalan rinteestä ja höyrylaiva järven selällä. Taivaalla hohtaa sininen kuu, linopiirros sekin. Vedostin nyt taivaalle linon ukonkorennosta ennen kuin aloitin sinisen pastellitaivaan. Toivon, että pystyn näin värittämään sinisen taivaan ihan ukonkorennon siipien reunaan asti. Aion myös vedostaa yhden pienemmän sudenkorennon järven päälle, ja tein sitä varten vaalean, hopeisen kohdan, mahtaakohan toimia.

I´m starting a new linocut & pastel work for my larger series. The size of the picture is 70 x 40 cm. At the bottom there is a linocut of the Pispala ridge an d a steam boat on the waves of the lake. A blue moon is glistening in the sky, also a linocut. I printed now a linocut of a large dragon fly in the sky before starting to colour the pastel sky. I´m hoping that I could now colour the blue sky near the wings of the dragonfly. I´m also planning to print one smaller dragonfly on top of the lake, so I made for it a light, silvery spot, hoping it will do the trick.

Seitsemäs ja tällä erää viimeinen linopiiroksia ja monoprinttejä yhdistelevä työ on sinisellä pohjalla. Korentoa ympäröivät nyt pienet linopiirroshyönteiset. Korennon siivet on väritetty aika violeteiksi. Varmaan tämä sarja vielä joskus jatkuu, oli sitä vaan niin hauska tehdä!

Seventh and for now the last work combining linocuts and monoprints is on the blue background. Small linocut insects are circling around the dragonfly. The wings of the dragonfly are now coloured quite purple. Surely this series is continuing sometimes, it was just so fun to make!

Kuudes työ, jossa yhdistelin linopiirroksia ja monoprinttejä on ukonkorento ruskehtavalla monoprint-pohjalla. Osa korentoa ympäröivistä lehdistä on monoprinttejä, osa linopiirroksia, samoin pari sulkaa. Korennon siipiin lisäsin käsin hiukan keltaisia ja hopeanvärisiä pilkkuja. Koko edelleen: 40 x 40 cm.

Sixth work combining monoprints and linocuts is a dragonfly on brownish monoprint background. Some of the leaves circling around the dragonfly are monoprints and some linocuts as are two feathers. I added some yellow and silvery spots on the wings of the dragonfly. Size still: 40 x 40 cm.

Fifth large dragonfly is the one on the green monoprint background. Monoprint leaves and linocut feathers are circling round. The dragonfly is a hand coloured linocut. This work is also sized 40 x 40 cm.

The fourth large dragonfly has the background and three leaves as monoprints. The dragonfly and green leaves are linocuts. Finally the dragonfly was hand coloured. This is also sized 40 x 40 cm.

 Kolmas 40 x 40 cm kokoinen pyöreä ukonkorento on sinisellä monoprint -pohjalla. Muutama lehti kehyksessä ovat myös monoprinttejä. Käsin väritetty ukonkorento ja pienet linnut ovat linopiirroksia. Linnut lentävät nyt ulospäin korennosta, paitsi yksi vasemmalla ylhäällä tuli vahingossa väärin päin.

Third 40 x 40 cm sized round dragonfly is on a blue monoprint background. A few leaves on the border are also monoprints. The hand coloured dragonfly and small birds are linocuts. The birds are now flying away from the dragonfly, except on e on the upper left corner came wrong way round by accident.

Toinen sarjassa linopiirroksia ukonkorennoista ja monoprinttejä on kellanruskealla taustalla ja pienten lintujen ympäröimänä. Tausta ja kolme vihreää lehteä ovat monoprinttejä. Korento ja linnut ovat linopiirroksia. Ukonkorento on vielä viimeiseksi väritetty käsin. Koko on 40 x 40 cm.

Second in my series of linocuts of  dragonflies on monoprints is the one with a yellow & brown background surrounded by small birds. The background and three green leaves are monoprints. The dragonfly and birds are linocuts. The dragonfly was lastly hand coloured. The size id 40 x 40 cm.

Uusi sarja ukonkorennoista ja monoprinteistä on aiempia suurempi: 30 x 30 cm. Kokeilen tässä sarjassa ukonkorennon taakse pyöreää monoprinttipohjaa ja korennon ympärille ikään kuin kehyksenä erilaisia monoprinttejä ja linopiirroksia. Tässä ensimmäisessä versiossa monoprittejä ovat saniaisen lehdet ja pala köynnöskasvia. Linopiirroksia ovat kaksi sulkaa ja oikean yläkulman saniaisen lehti sekä ukonkorento. Korento on viimeiseksi väritetty käsin.

A new series of dragonflies and monoprints is larger than earlier: 30 x 30 cm. I'm testing in this series a round monoprint at the background and diffrent monoprints and linocuts around the dragon fly like a kind of frame. In this firs version the fern leaves and a piece of a vine are monoprints. Feathers and the fern on the upper right corner are linocuts, and so is the dragonfly which is hand coloured lastly.

UKONKORENNOT KORISTEPAPERILLA / DRAGONFLIES ON DECORATIVE PAPER

Löysin palan Tallinnasta joskus ennen koronaa hankkimaani koristepaperia. Vedostin koristepaperille kaksi hiukan erilaista linopiirrosta ukonkorennosta. Näidenkin koko on 20 x 20 cm. Syy näihin kahteen hiukan erilaiseen, mutta samankokoiseen versioon ukonkorennosta on se, että muutaman kerran monoprinttipohjia tehdessä sapluunani ukonkorennosta menikin väärinpäin, jolloin linopiirros ukonkorennosta ei ihan sopinut sapluunan jättämään aukkoon. Ukonkorennon oikea ja vasen puoli eivät ole identtiset. Nyt voin laittaa sapluunan miten päin haluan.

I found a piece of decorative paper bought in Tallinn sometimes before the pandemic. I printed on this decorative paper two a bit different version of linocuts of dragonflies. These are sized 20 x 20 cm. The reason for these two different  but same size versions of a dragonfly is that while printing monoprint backgrounds my stencil of the dragonfly flipped the wrong side up, and so the linocut of a dragonfly did not fit in the place left with the stencil. The right and left side of the dragonfly are not identical. Now I can place the stencil at any side I want.

TOINEN SININEN UKONKORENTO / ANOTHER BLUE DRAGONFLY

Tällä erää viimeinen näitä 20 x 20 cm korentokuvia on sininen. Tausta on monoprintti tai monotypia. Ukonkorento on linopiirros, jossa on hiukan myös käsin väritystä. Tätä sarjaa korennoista oli tosi hausta tehdä. Paljosta lopputuloksessa saa tosin syyttää tai kiittää sattumaa.

For now the last of these 20 x 20 cm sized dragonfly pictures is a blue one. The background is monoprint or monotype. The dragonfly is a linocut with a bit of hand colouring. It was really fun to make this series of dragonflies. Well, a lot in the end result is blamed or thanked for coincidences.

Sininen tausta on motypia tai monoprintti, jossa muutama kasvin lehti erottuu vaaleamman sinisinä. Lehdet on ennen vedostusta painettu Gelli-levylle. Korennon mallinen sapluuna on väritetty kellahtavaksi ja painettu sapluunan jättämään tyhjään kohtaan. Seuraavaksi on vedostettu linopiirros ukonkorennosta ja lopuksi lisätty käsin vielä keltaista väriä siipiin.

The blue background is a monotype or monoprint, where a couple of lighter plant leaves are standing out. The leaves were pressed on a Gelli plate before printing. The stencil shaped like  a dragonfly was coloured yellowish and printed on an empty place left by the stencil. Next the linocut of a dragonfly was printed and finally added some yellow colour by hand on the wings. 

KAKSI KELTAISTA UKONKORENTOA / TWO YELLOW DRAGONFLIES

Kaksi uutta linopiirrosta ukonkorennoista monoprintillä, nyt keltaisella pohjalla. Haamuprintin korento on väritetty käsin vihreäksi. Mutta alkuperäisessä tummemmassa printissä ukonkorento on mustavalkoinen. Jotenkin tuntui, että värittämällä olisin rikkonut jonkinlaisen harmonisen tasapainon keltaruskean pohjan ja korennon siipien kuvioiden kesken.

Two new linocuts of dragonflies on monoprints, now on a yellow background. The dragonfly on the ghost print has been coloured green by hand. But on the darker one the dragonfly is just black and white. Somehow I felt like breaking a kind of harmonious balance between the yellow brownich background and the pattern of the dragonfly´s wings by colouring them. 

KAKSI VIOLETTIA UKONKORENTOA / TWO PURPLE DRAGONFLIES

Kahdessa uudessa väritetyssä linopiirroksessa ukonkorennoista on violetti monoprint-tausta. Tummempi on alkuperäinen vedostus ja vaaleampi ns. haamuvedos lisäämättä väriä. Tosin kasvinlehtiin on lisätty väriä sienellä, jolloin lehtien ruodit tulevat esille. Tummemmassa lehdet näyttävät ilman väriä hiukan pilviltä. Taaskin pidän enemmän haamusta. Koko näillä on 20 x 20 cm.

There is a purple monoprint background in two new coloured linocut dragonflies. The darker one is the original print and the lighter one is so called ghost print with no added colour. But some colour was added with a sponge to the plant leaves, so the shaped of the leaves are more visible. In the darker version the leaves without any colour look a bit like clouds. Again I like the ghost more.The size is 20 x 20 cm.
