Kissakortti: 587 / Cat Card: 587

Kaksi koiraa ja kaksi kissaa viettävät aikaa yhdessä. Mutta eivät ne näytä ihan viihtyvän toistensa seurassa. Kissoilla korvat ovat pystyssä ja silmät hiukan tuijottavat. Koirat ovat nyrpeän näköisiä, mutta se voi olla rodulle tyypillinen ilme. Teoksen (öljyväri kankaalle) on maalannut japanilais-ranskalainen Tsuguharu Leonard Foujita (1886-1968) jo vuonna 1924. Värin käsittely näyttää hyvin modernilta eikä tätä kuvaa voi kutsua ainakaan liian imeläksi suklaarasiakuvaksi.

Two dogs and two cats spend time together. But they don't seem to enjoy each other's company. Cats have erect ears and slightly staring eyes. The dogs have a scrawny look, but that can be a typical look for the breed. The work (oil on canvas) was painted by French- Japanese Tsuguharu Leonard Foujita (1886-1968) already in 1924. The color treatment looks very modern and this picture surely cannot  at be called a chocolate box picture.

 

TIINA VAINIO - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

 Galleria Saskiassa käytiin Taiteenystävien ryhmällä Tiina Vainion taidenäyttelyssä. Luonto on maalauksissa keskiössä, suuria maalauksia hajoavista jäävuorista ja katoavista kaupungeista väreinä tumma punainen ja sininen. Vihreä ja pinkkikin pilkahtivat muutamissa pienemmissä töissä. Isommat taulut näyttivät tosi hyviltä kaukaa katsottuna, perspektiivit korostuivat ja mustan ja värillisen maalin vaihtelut sulautuivat yhteen.

At Galleria Saskia, a group of Art Friends visited Tiina Vainio's art exhibition. Nature is at the center of the paintings, large paintings of crumbling icebergs and disappearing cities in dark red and blue. Green and pink also flashed in a few smaller jobs. The bigger paintings looked really good from afar, the perspectives were emphasized and the variations of black and colored paint merged together.

PISPALA - TALOJA JA PORTAAT / PISPALA - HOUSES AND STEPS

Aika usein on kyselty, onko minulla A5-kokoisia Pispala-linopiirroksia. Jostain kumman syystä sellaisia ei ole ollut. Päätinkin tehdä uuden sarjan A5-kokoisia (20 x 15 cm) aika pieniä Pispala-linoja. Aikomus olisi tehdä ehkä 4 tai 5 sellaista kuvaa, jotka voi yhdistaa halutessaan isommaksi, mutta yksittäisetkin toimivat toivon mukaan sellaisinaan. Pieni kappale taivasta näkyy yläreunassa, muu pinta on Pispalan taloja ja/tai portaita. Ensimmäisessä en nyt ole tyytyväinen oikean puolen puihin portaiden vieressä, ja aionkin ratkaista ongelman erillisillä pienillä linopiirroksilla puista.

Quite often people have asked if I have A5-sized Pispala linocuts. For some reason, there haven't been any. So I decided to make a new series of A5-sized (20 x 15 cm) rather small Pispala linos. The intention would be to make maybe 4 or 5 such images, which can be combined if desired to make a bigger one, but I hope that the individual ones will also work as such. A small piece of sky can be seen at the top, the rest of the surface is Pispala's houses and/or stairs. In the first one, I'm not satisfied with the trees on the right side next to the stairs, and I'm going to solve the problem with separate small lino drawings of the trees.

 

ULLA POHJOLA - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

 Ulla Pohjolan kirjontatöiden näyttely Laikun Studiossa oli aivan hurmaava. Pienet ja suuret työt vaihdellen, mutta jokaisen kohdalla piti ihmetellä kirjonnan pistoja, muotoja, värejä ja taidokkuutta. Kirjontoja oli myös hienosti yhdistetty vanhaan puuhun, kaarnaan, rasioihin, erilaisiin siemeniin tai kohollaan oleviin muotoihin kuten pariin isoon ihmishahmoon ja niiden kasvoihin. Aiheet luonnosta ja paljon perhosia. Iso suositus!

The exhibition of Ulla Pohjola's embroidery works at Laikun Studio was absolutely charming. Small and large works varied, but with each one you had to marvel at the stitches, shapes, colors and craftsmanship of the embroidery. Embroideries were also beautifully combined with old wood, bark, boxes, various seeds or raised shapes such as a couple of large human figures and their faces. Subjects from nature and lots of butterflies. Big recommendation!

JA LINNUT, LINNUT HELÄÄ / AND THE BIRDS, THE BIRDS THEY SING

 

Lintuparvi linopiirroksia on nyt vedostettu nauravan auringon ympärille kesätaivaalle. Hyppyrimäen alla kissa nukkuu suojassa. TTaivas on pastellia, kaikki muu linopiirroksia. Tämän sekatekniikkatyön koko on 50 x 30 cm. Tämäkin sopi vielä sarjaani kuvia Lauri Viidan runosta Alfhild ja nimeksi työlle tuli: "Ja linnut, linnut helää".

A flock of bird linocuts are now printed around the laughing sun in the summer sky. Under the jumping hill, the cat sleeps sheltered. The sky is pastel, everything else is linocuts. The size of this mixed media work is 50 x 30 cm. This also suited my series of pictures from Lauri Viita's poem Alfhild, and the work was named: "And the Birds, the Birds They Sing".

 Tamperelaisen kuvittajan Matti Kodan (s. 1939) vesiväri/piirustus"Kissa" kuvaa keltaista kissaa kiven päällä metsä takanaan. Kissan turkki on hienosti kuvattu pienillä terävillä kynänvedoilla ja tausta lienee vesiväriä. Tämä kissa ei nyt ole oikein hyvällä tuulella. Ss istuu aika jäykkänä etutassut vierekkäin. Kissa luimistelee katsojaa tai Matti Kotaa alta kulmien: "Minä en nyt kauheasti tykkää poseerata, mutta jos nyt sinun mieliksesi."

Tampere-based illustrator Matti Kota's (b. 1939) watercolor/pencil drawing "Cat" depicts a yellow cat on top of a rock with a forest behind it. The cat's fur is nicely depicted with small, sharp pencil strokes, and the background is probably watercolor. This cat is not in a very good mood right now. It sits quite stiffly with her paws next to each other. The cat squints at the viewer or Matti Kota with a frown: "I don't really like posing, but OK if it's up to you."

LINNUT PYYNIKIN YLLÄ / BIRDS OVER PYYNIKKI

 Pyynikin tornien ylle aurinkoa kiertämään suunnittelen pieniä linopiirroksia eli leimasimia linnuista. Linnut lentävät kaarevassa muodossa ohi auringon. Kesäisen sininen taivas on pehmeää pastellia. Leikkasin leivinpaperista parven muotoisen sapluunan tai mallin. Yritän vedostaa linnut paperiaukon sisälle.

I plan to print small linocuts or stamps of birds circling the sun over the towers. The birds fly past the sun in an arc. The summer blue sky is a soft pastel. I cut a flock-shaped template or model out of baking paper. I'm trying to print the birds inside the paper opening.

AURINKO NAURAA / THE SUN IS LAUGHING

 

Aurinko paistaa nyt Pyynikin  harjun ylle. Keltaisella värillä vedostettu linopiirrosaurinko punaisella keskustalla sai keskelleen pienen punaisen linon nauravasta naamasta. Alaosassa on linopiirros Pyynikin harjusta nakötorneineen ja vanhoine hyppyrimäkineen (joka tosin on jo purettu). Pastellitaivasta seuraavaksi.

The sun is now shining over the Pyynikki ridge. The linocut sun printed in yellow with a red center had a small red lino of a laughing face in the middle. In the lower part, there is a linocut of the ridge of Pyynikki with its observation tower and ski jumping hill (which, however, has already been dismantled). Next the pastel sky.

NUKKETEATTERI NIRUNARU / PUPPET THEATRE NIRUNARU

 Kirjaston Aatetoverit retkeilivät Lempäälässä. Tutustuttiin nukketeatteri Nirunarun historiaan ja nukkien näyttelyyn Kuokkalan museoraitilla. Tuula Martikainen esitteli noin 50 vuotta sitten perustamansa nukketeatterin vaiheita. Nirunaru on aina liittynyt kiinteästi kirjastoon ja se on varmasti iso esikuva monille Suomen muissakin kirjastoissa syntyneille nukketeattereille. Nirunarun Tuula perusti työkavereittensa kanssa Huittisten kirjastossa 1970-luvulla. Kirjastoissahan on pidetty lapsille satutunteja, joissa on luettu satuja ääneen. Mutta satutuntien yleisölle nukketeatteri on kuin luksusta. Nirunarun kohdalla nukketeatterin esiintyjät ovat tehneet myös suuren osan nukeista. Ja miten hurmaavia nuo nukkehahmot ovatkaan! Joillakin on langasta virkattu pää, joillakin muovailtu ilmeikäs pää. Nirunarulle on olljut ominaista myös aikuisille tehdyt nukkenäytelmät sekä "tilauksesta" tehdyt esitykset juhlapäiviin ja vaikkapa syntymäpäiville.

The library's Aatetoverit visited Lempäälä. We learned about the history of the Nirunaru puppet theater and the puppet exhibition at the Kuokkala museum lane. Tuula Martikainen presented the stages of the puppet theater she founded about 50 years ago. Nirunaru has always been firmly connected to the library and it is certainly a big model for many puppet theaters born in other libraries in Finland. Tuula founded Nirunaru with her colleagues in the Huittinen library in the 1970s. After all, libraries have held fairy tale lessons for children, where fairy tales have been read aloud. But for the audience of fairy tale lessons, the puppet theater is like a luxury. In the case of Nirunaru, the performers of the puppet theater have also made a large part of the puppets. And how charming those doll figures are! Some have a yarn crocheted head, some have a molded expressive head. Nirunaru has also been characterized by puppet shows for adults as well as "to order" shows for festivities and birthdays.

JOULU / CHRISTMAS

Toinen joulukorttimalli nauravista naamoista tähtien päällä on pyöreä. Tässäkin kissa soittaa viulua tähtien joukossa. Lisäsin joulu-sanaa eri kielillä ympyrän reunalle. Ja sitten lisäsin vielä nauravia naamoja ja tonttulakkeja reunoille ja sain kuvasta neliömäisen. Aikomus siis olisi ehkä painattaa tästäkin versiosta joulukortteja. Mutta onko tässä jo liikaa koristetta, kuin karkkipapaeri. Tyytyisinkö ympyrään ilman reunoja? Kuva sai nimensä Lauri Pohjanpään runosta: "Hämyssä sinisen jouluaamun ".

Another Christmas card design of laughing faces on top of stars is round. Here, too, the cat plays the violin among the stars. I added the word Christmas in different languages ​​to the edge of the circle. And then I added laughing faces and elf hats to the edges and got a square picture. So the intention would probably be to print Christmas cards from this version too. But is there already too much decoration, like candy wrappers? Would I settle for a circle without edges? The picture got its name from Lauri Pohjanpää's poem: "In the misty blue Christmas morning".

Kissaperheen aamiaisella on täysi kaaos. Yksi kissanpoika kaataa maitokuppinsa, toinen syo hunajaa suoraan purkista. Äitikissan komentelu ei oikein onnistu ja isäkissa kurkkaa häiriintyneenä Daily Newsinsä takaa. Seinällä on kissatauluja. Takanreunuksella valvovat koira- ja kissapatsaat. Pöydällä on avattuna säylykepurkki, jonka kyljessä lukee Potted Mice / Säilöttyjä hiiriä. Kirjahyllyyn nojaa mainos tilaisuudesta Mewsic / Naukujaiset. Taiteilijasta ei ole tietoa. Kortin sisällä on teksti: Happy Anniversary / Onnellista hääpäivää!

The cat family's breakfast is a complete chaos. One kitten spills his cup of milk, the other eats honey straight from the jar. The mother cat's commanding is not quite successful and the father cat looks disturbed from behind his Daily News. There are cat paintings on the wall. Dog and cat statues guard the mantel piece. On the table is an open can, with the words Potted Mice on the side. An advertisement for the event Mewsic is leaning against the bookshelf. There is no information about the artist. Inside the card is the text: Happy Anniversary!

HYMY AURINGON / SUN'S SMILE

 

Pienet hymynaamalinot nauravat tässä pastellitähtien päällä. Linopiirros kissasta soittamassa viulua on väritetty. Ja taivas on tehty pehmeillä pastelleilla. Tämä 27 x 26 cm kokoinen kuva sai nimensä Lauri Pohjanpään runosta Aamunsuu: "Hymy auringon maata jo tervehtää". Aion painattaa kuvasta joulukortin.

Small smiley faces are laughing here on top of the pastel stars. The linocut of a cat playing the violin is hand colored. And the sky is made with soft pastels. This 27 x 26 cm picture got its name from Lauri Pohjanpää's poem Aamunsuu: "A smile greets the land of the sun." I'm going to print a Christmas card from the picture.
