NAIVISTIT IITTALASSA 2025: LISÄÄ KISSOJA / MORE CATS : 3

Veikko Halmetojan kuratoimat kissahuoneet Naivistit Iittalassa -kesänäyttelyssä ovat mainiot. Kullakin naivistilla on ihan omannäköiset tulkinnat kissoista, on rohkeita, veikeitä, söpöjä ja hurjia, kaikki kuitenkin kissoja. Tämän on toinen satsi kännykkääni tarttuneita kissoja Iittalasta. Ja sitten on vielä kaikki muut aiheet!

The cat rooms curated by Veikko Halmetoja in the Naive Artists in Iittala summer exhibition are excellent. Each naive artist has their own unique interpretation of cats, some are brave, some are cute and some are wild, but they are all cats. This is another set of cats from Iittala that have stuck to my phone. And then there are all the other subjects!

Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttelyssä on tänä kesänä kuraattori Veikko Halmetojan mainio ripustusidea: alakerran kolme huonetta täynnä kissoja. Ja niitähän naivistisessa taiteessa riittää! 

Oma sarjani linopiirroksia lentävistä perhoskissoista on ryhmänä perimmäisessä huoneessa, ja mukana on petokissakin. Tässä osa kattikuvista ja lisääkin löytyy puhelimesta…

The Naive Artists at Iittala exhibition this summer features a great hanging idea by curator Veikko Halmetoja: three downstairs rooms full of cats. And there are plenty of them in naive art!

My own series of linocuts of flying butterfly cats are in a group in the farthest room, and there is also a wild cat in a ree. Hete are some of the pictures from the cats and more can be found on my phone…

KALTEVALLA PINNALLA / NAIVISTIT IITTALASSA 2025: 1

Petra Heikkilän kanssa

 

Naivistit Iittalassa näyttely 2025 on avattu ”Kaltevalla pinnalla”. Kuraattori Veikko Halmetoja luotsaa näyttelyä viidettä vuotta, ja työt senkun suurenevat. Muistan, kuinka viisi vuotta sitten Veikko kummasteli naivistien taulujen pientä kokoa verrattuna nykytaiteen jättikokoihin, joihin oli tottunut gallerioissaan. 

Nyt on tähän mennessä suurin työni saanut hienon paikan Petra Heikkilän eläinmaalausten vieressä. Ja monenlaista kivaa juttua syntyi eilen taulun vierellä. Jatkoa seuraa, sillä kamera on pullollaan kuvia.

The Naive Artists in Iittala exhibition 2025 in Iittala has opened “On a Sloping Surface”. Curator Veikko Halmetoja is leading the exhibition for the fifth year, and the works are getting bigger. I remember how five years ago Veikko wondered about the small size of the Naivists’ paintings compared to the giant sizes of contemporary art he was used to in his galleries.

Now my largest work to date has found a great place next to Petra Heikkilä’s animal paintings. And many nice things happened next to the painting yesterday. More to come, because the camera is full of pictures.

PÄÄSKYNEN / SWALLOW

 

Viides linopiirroslintu monotypia-pohjalla on pääskynen. Sapluunani, jonka avulla jätin  valkoisen paikan monotypiaa vedostaessa, oli ehkä liian iso. Pääskystä vedostaessa linnun reunoille jäi aika paljon valkoista. Taidan värikynällä tai pastellilla hiukan vielä "kaunistella" kuvaa sumentamalla noita reunoja. Minusta pääskysen pyrstön reunat hauskasti menevät hiukan kuvan ulkopuolelle. Kuvan koko on 15 x 15 cm.

The fifth linocut bird on a monotype base is a swallow. My stencil, which I used to leave a white space when tprinting the monotype, was perhaps too big. When printing the swallow, quite a lot of white remained on the edges of the bird. I think I will use colored pencils or pastels to "beautify" the image a little by blurring those edges. I think the edges of the swallow's tail are funny, they go a little outside the image. The size of the image is 15 x 15 cm.

TIAINEN / GREAT TIT

 

Neljäs linopiirroslintu monotypia-pohjalla on tiainen. Nyt kokeilin punaisia taustoja. Tummin punainen on vedostettu ensin ja muut ovat ns. haamuvedoksia. Yhteen lisäsin pieniä linopiirroslintuja ja yhteen pieniä punaisia sydämiä, linopiirroksia nekin. Näissä kuvissa minua ei ollenkaan haittaa monotypioita vedostaessa linopiirrosten kohdalla olleiden sapluunoiden jättämät jäljet. Kuvan koko on 15 x 15 cm.

The fourth linocut bird on a monotype base is a great tit. Now I tried red backgrounds. The darkest red has been printed first and the others are so-called ghost prints. I added small linocut birds to one and small red hearts to another, also linocuts. In these pictures I don't mind at all the traces left by the stencils that were on the places of linocuts when printing the monotypes. The size of the picture is 15 x 15 cm.

RASTAS / THRUSH

 Kolmas linopiirroslintu monotypia-pohjalla on rastas. Yleensä olen taustaa tehdessä jättänyt linopiirrokselle sapluunalla valkoisen kohdan. Jos sen kohdan reunoja ei pehmennä, minusta reunat ovat liian teräväreunaiset. Jos linopiirroksen vedostaa vaikka hiukan pieleen, näkyviin tulee valkoista pohjaa. Kokeilinkin näiden rastaiden kanssa pohjan häivyttämistä jättämällä hiukan väriä sapluunan alle. Ihan hyvin se toimii.

The third linocut bird on a monotype base is a thrush. When I make a background, I usually leave a white spot for the linocut with a stencil. If the edges of that spot are not softened, I find the edges too sharp-edged. If the linocut is printed even slightly wrong, a white background will appear. I also tried fading the background with these thrushes by leaving a little color under the stencil. It works quite well.
