I frightened a little mouse, under her chair.

A black and white cat has chased a mouse out from under the Queen's chair at Buckingham Palace. The mouse has an objection to the matter. The picture is probably a watercolor, nuanced.

LINNUT NOUSEVAT KUIN VARRETTOMAT KUKAT / BIRDS RISE LIKE FLOWERS WITHOUT STEMS

 

Lisäsin kokeeksi kaksi eri kokoista pientä linolintua sinisessä kuplassaan lentävän linnun lisäksi tähän kuvaan Pispalasta. Taidan pitää eniten tuosta versiosta, jossa on isompi stamppilintu.Tämä linopiirros on neljäs sarjassa 20 x15 cm Pispala-kuvia. Yhdessä on fasaani, yhdessä kissa ja tässä lintuja. Voisin kokeilla neljän kuvan yhdistämistä yhdeksi 20 x 60 cm kokoiseksi. Tämän version nimeksi tuli rivi Pertti Niemisen runosta: "Linnut nousevat kuin varrettomat kukat".

As an experiment, I added two small lino birds of different sizes in addition to the bird flying in its blue bubble to this image of Pispala. I think I like the version with the larger stamped bird the most. This linocut is the fourth in a series of 20 x15 cm Pispala images. One has a pheasant, one has a cat and this one has birds. I could try combining the four images into one 20 x 60 cm size. The name of this version was a line from Pertti Nieminen's poem: "Birds Rise Like Flowers Without Stems".

KRISTIAN KROKFORS, RISTO SUOMI, JANNE HOKKANEN - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

 Poikettiin katsomassa galleria Himmelblaussa kolmen miehen näyttelyt. Kristian Krokforsin viimeistellyt, kirkkaat pallurat kirkastivat päivää , ja tykkäsin hänen hämyisistä palmu-ja planeettakuvistaan myös. Avaruusaiheet sitten jatkuivatkin Risto Suomen pilvissä ja galakseissa. Janne Hokkasen maalaukset jatkoivat samaa aihetta, hiukan surrealistisemmalla otteella. Suurin työ peitti koko seinän, 4,5 metriä leveyttä. Kineettisessä installaatiossa päätään liikuttavalla merilehmällä oli sanoma.

We stopped by the Himmelblau gallery to see the three-man exhibition. Kristian Krokfors's well-finished, bright balls brightened the day, and I also liked his hazy palm and planet pictures. The space themes then continued in Risto Suomi's clouds and galaxies. Janne Hokkanen's paintings continued the same theme, with a slightly more surreal approach. The largest work covered the entire wall, 4.5 meters wide. In the kinetic installation, a manatee moving its head had a message.

LINTU SINISESSÄ KUPLASSAAN / BIRD IN ITS BLUE BUBBLE

 Koevedos linnusta Pispalan yllä kaipaa minusta hiukan lisää liikettä taivaalle. Nyt siellä liihottelee sinisessä kuplassaan yksi lintu, mutta sen toiselle puolella mahtuisi ihan hyvin joku ihan pieni linopiirros, lintustamppi.Aion kokeilla....

The test print of the bird above Pispala needs a little more movement in the sky. Right now there is a single bird moving around in its blue bubble, but on the other side of it a small linocut, a bird stamp, would fit perfectly. I will try it out.....

PISPALAN LINTU / BIRD OF PISPALA

 

Neljäs linopiirros sarjaan aika pieniä (20 x 15 cm) Pispala-kuvia on lintu. Lintu on omassa kuplassaan taivaalla Pispalan puutaloje n yllä.

The fourth linocut in the series of rather small (20 x 15 cm) Pispala pictures is of a bird. The bird is in its own bubble in the sky above the wooden houses of Pispala.

Tässä japanilaisen lastenkirjakuvittajan mirocomachikon piirroksessa on niin paljon liikettä, että aluksi pitää tarkkaan katsoa, mitä kuvassa oikein. Kaksi kirjavaa kissaa tuijottavat kivikasan tai -muurin  päältä. Muurin edessä kasvaa kalloja. Tausta on punaraitainen, olisiko kallioseinämä. Värejä ja kuvioita riittää! Kissojen silmät ovat punaiset ja niiden turkin raidat hukkuvat punaisiin taustan raitoihin.

 There is so much movement in this drawing by Japanese children's book illustrator mirocomachiko that at first you have to look carefully to see what is right in the picture. Two spotted cats stare from atop a pile or wall of rocks. Calla flowers grow in front of the stones. The background is red-striped, as if it were a rock wall. There are plenty of colors and patterns! The cats' eyes are red and the stripes on their fur are lost in the red stripes of the background.

Kalenteri vuodelle 2026 linopiirroksistani ja pastelleista on taas painettu perinteiseen malliin. Kuvat ovat linopiirrroksiani ja pastellia. Timo on valinnut kuvien seuraksi suomalaisia sananlaskuja. Hyvä painojälki on A-Printin / Printtaamon.

Kalenteria voi tilata Etsy.kauppani (linokissa) kautta Suomeen hintaan 24 euroa. Sen verran on iso koko, että postissa kulkee S-pakettina.

The calendar for 2026 of my linocuts and pastels has been printed in the traditional style again. The pictures are my linocuts and pastels. Timo has chosen Finnish proverbs to accompany the pictures. A-Print/ Printtaamo has made a good print.

PISPALAN UNI / PISPALA'S SLEEP

 

Pyöreä kissa nukkuu Pispalan mäellä keltaisella peitollaan. Nyt tässä kuvassa oikealla oleva alempi talo on vaalea ja erottuu sen yläpuolella olevasta tummasta talosta. Muuten saavat Pispalan talot ollakin sikin sokin. Kuva on yksi pienenmpään sarjaani Pispalan taloja, koko on 20 x 15 cm. Kuvan nimi on "Aamu tuli kuin harmaa kissa raapaisi kynnellään minut hereille" (Lasse Heikkilän runosta).

A round cat sleeps on Pispala hill with its yellow blanket. Now in this picture, the lower house on the right is light and stands out from the dark house above it. Otherwise, the houses in Pispala are allowed to be quite like want to be. The picture is one of my smaller series of Pispala houses, the size is 20 x 15 cm. The name for this linocut is "Morning came as a gray cat scratching me awake with its claws" (from a poem by Lasse Heikkilä).

TALO VAALEAMMAKSI / A LIGHTER HOUSE

Nyt on korjattu Pispalan taloja kuvaavan linopiirroksen virhe, jonka huomasin jo kaiverrusvaiheessa. Levyn vasemmalla reunalla on kaksi taloa päällekkäin ja ne olivat molemmat tummia. Nyt alempi talo on kaiverrettu vaaleammaksi, ja se erottuu paremmin. Nyt huomasin virheen jo kaiverrusvaiheessa, kun yleensä nämä tummien ja vaaleiden alueiden erot erottaa paremmin koevedoksessa. Koevedos on kyllä tärkeä vaihe linopiirroksen viimeistelyssä.

The error in the linocut depicting the houses of Pispala has now been corrected, which I noticed already during the engraving phase. On the left edge of the plate, there are two houses on top of each other and they were both dark. Now the lower house has been engraved lighter, and it stands out better. Now I noticed the error already during the engraving phase, as these differences between dark and light areas are usually better distinguished in the proof. The proof is indeed an important stage in the finalization of a linocut.

PISPALAN PIENI KISSA / SMALL CAT IN PISPALA

 

Vielä on lämmintä syksyä ainakin ajoittain, ja linopiirroksen kaiverrus mökin parvekkeella on ihanaa. Nyt teen pientä kissaa Pispalan talojen joukossa. Koko kuvakin on aika pieni, A 5 eli 20 x 15 cm. Kun katselin tarkemmin kaiverrettua kuvaa, huomasin  ainakin yhden virheen tai korjattavan paikan. Huomaatko sinä? Kaiverruksen vasemmalla reunalla on kaksi taloa, ja ne eivät oikein erotu kunnolla kun ovat molemmat tummia. Onneksi tämän virheen voi korjata kaivertamalla vaikkapa etummainen talo vaaleammaksi.

It's still warm autumn at least from time to time, and carving a linocut on the balcony of the cottage is wonderful. Now I'm making a little cat among the houses of Pispala. The whole picture is also quite small, A 5, or 20 x 15 cm. When I looked more closely at the engraved picture, I noticed at least one mistake or place that needed to be corrected. Do you notice? There are two houses on the left side of the engraving, and they don't really stand out properly when they are both dark. Fortunately, this mistake can be corrected by carving the house in the front lighter, for example.

Gerhard Glückin maalauksessa "Kissoja ja koiria" tosiaan sataa taivaalta kissoja ja koiria. Vanhempi herra tarpoo etukumarassa, kun keltainen kissa mätkähtää hänen sateenvarjolleen. Ja taivas on täynnä kissoja ja koiria matkalla maahan, jossa niitä jo on laumoittain. Taivas on sininen, joten ehkä tässä kuvassa ei sada ollenkaan vettä, ainoastaan kissoja ja koiria. Herra on silti aika rauhallisen ja päättäväisen näköinen jatkaessaan matkaansa.

In Gerhard Glück's painting "Cats and Dogs", it is indeed raining cats and dogs from the sky. The elderly gentleman is hunched over as a yellow cat bumps into his umbrella. And the sky is full of cats and dogs on their way to the ground, where there are already herds of them. The sky is blue, so perhaps in this picture it is not raining water at all, only cats and dogs. The gentleman still looks quite calm and determined as he continues his journey.

MARIA STEREO & AINO LOUHI / NÄYTTELY GALLERIA SASKIASSA

Galleria Saskiassa kävin ihmettelemässä suuritöisiä Maria Stereon mosaiikkitöitä. Töissä on käytetty aikamoinen määrä rikottuja keramiikkafiguriineja, nukkeja, prinsessoja ja prinssejä. Näin palasia peileissä, suuria pienistä keramiikkapaloista koottuja pohjia, joista voi etsiä päitä ja jalkoja. Isot keramiikkatohvelit eivät ehkä ole kevyimmät ja mukavimmat. Aino Louhilta näyttelyssä on akryylimaalauksia, pari isoa näyttävät kauempaa tilkkutäkeiltä.

I went to Gallery Saskia to marvel at Maria Stereo's large mosaic works. A fair number of broken ceramic figurines, dolls, princesses and princes have been used in the works. I saw fragments in mirrors, large bases assembled from small ceramic pieces, where you can look for heads and feet. The large ceramic slippers may not be the lightest or most comfortable. There are acrylic paintings by Aino Louhi in the exhibition, a couple of the large ones look like patchwork quilts from a distance.

We took to Art Pispala's framing/gallery for the wall next to the door, linocuts of Pispala's houses, together with a shot tower and a red moon. Yes, Sesse will find a place for that larger picture, where there are two linocuts side by side. Thanks to everyone who bought previous works during the summer!

SUOMEN NAIVISTIT TARTOSSA 10.9. -3.10.2025

 Virossa Suomen naivistit ry:n näyttely on nyt avoinna Tartossa Jakobi-galleriassa 10.9. - 3.10.2025. Mukana meitä naivisteja lähes kolmekymmentä, omia töitäni joukosta löytyy kolme.

In Estonia, the exhibition of the Finnish Naivists' Association is now open in Tartu at the Jakobi Gallery from September 10 to October 3, 2025. Almost thirty of us naive artists are participating, including three of my own works.

The art exhibitions of summer 2025 are now over for my part. A thousand thanks to everyone who stopped by the exhibitions and bought art! Art Villa Armas Kangasala was the last place to collect the remaining items today. Gallerist/curator Auli Tikkala acquired a lino pastel of a summer cottage from the exhibition for her own wall - great, big thanks!

AIKA NOUSTA LENTÄMÄÄN / TIME TO GET UP AND FLY

Lisäsin parven pieniä ja hiukan isompia lintuja Pispalan taivaalle, 27 erillistä linopiirrosta kaikkiaan. Hopeinen kuu on myös linopiirros, samoin vihreänä vedostettu Pispalan piha alhaalla. Taivaan tein pehmeillä pastelliliiduilla ja PanPastel-väreillä. Nimi? Läysin nimen Juice Leskisen kappaleesta Afroditen poika: "On tähän saakka minun jalat jaksaneet, on aika nousta lentämään". Kuvan koko on 70 x 40 cm.

I added a flock of small and slightly larger birds to the Pispala sky, 27 separate linocuts in total. The silver moon is also a linocut, as is the green-printed Pispala yard below. I made the sky with soft pastel crayons and PanPastel colors. Name? I took the name from Juice Leskinen's song Afrodite´s Son: "My Legs Have Been Strong So Far, It’s Time To Get Up And Fly". The size of the picture is 70 x 40 cm.

Kathy Lamin piirroskuvitus "Musta kissa auringonkukkapyörällä" saa hymyn huulille. Musta kissa virnistelee vanhanaikaisen isopyöräisen polkupyörän satulassa. Pyörässä on lamppu ja äänitorvi. Takakorissa komeilee iso kimppu auringonkukkia. Minulleko niitä olet tuomassa! Ainakin tervehdit pirteästi: "Hello".

Kathy Lam's cartoon illustration "Black Cat on a Sunflower Bike" will put a smile on your face. The black cat is grinning on the saddle of an old-fashioned, big-wheeled bicycle. The bike has a lamp and a horn. A large bouquet of sunflowers adorns the rear basket. Are you bringing them for me? At least you greeted me cheerfully: "Hello."

KELTAISTA JA SINISTÄ TAIVASTA / YELLOW AND BLUE SKY

 

Vihreän linopiirroksen eli Pispalan pihan ylle tein pehmeillä pastelleilla sinistä ja keltaista taivasta linopiirroskuun ympärille. Vasemmalle puolelle jätin vaaleamman kohdan, johon vedostan parven pieniä linopiirroslintuja. Epäilin hiukan, miten taivas voi sopia vihreän maiseman ylle. Ihan hyvin minusta, vaikka kännykkäkuvassa värit hiukan tuntuvat vääristyvän. Taivas ei oikeasti ole noin sininen ja vihreä on tummempi. Pitää siis nähdä luonnossa.

 Over the green linocut, or Pispala's yard, I used soft pastels to create a blue and yellow sky around the linocut moon. On the left side, I left a lighter spot where I will print a flock of small linocut birds. I was a little skeptical about how the sky could fit over the green landscape. I think it's just fine, although the colors seem a little distorted in the cellphone photo. The sky isn't really that blue and the green is darker. So you have to see it in nature.
