INSTAGRAM - #bestnine2020

 Postailen kuvia linopiirroksieni työvaiheista ja muutakin Instagramiin ja seurailen samalla muiden linopiirrosten tekijöiden postauksia. Instagramista saa vuoden lopulla hauskan listauksen #bestnine2020 tai #topnine2020 -yhdistelmän omista vuoden aikana eniten tykätyistä postauksista. Mitä nyt voisin päätellä omasta tuloksestani? Ainakaan en oikein sovi tuohon IG:n neliönmalliseen formaattiin, en siis ole "square". Enkä myöskään tunnu olevan vielä valmis, sillä monet töistä ovat keskeneräisiä tai "vaiheessa"  eli  #wip. Tästäpä on ihan mukava jatkaa kokeiluja linopiirrosten ja taiteen parissa myös vuonna 2021, toivottavasti jo koronarokotteenkin saaneena. Instagramissa olen @linokissa.

I post pictures of my efforts with linocuts and other chores in Instagram, and I follow at the same time postings by other linocutters. You can get a fun combination list of your #bestnine2020 or #topnine2020 postings that have been your most liked in Instagram. What can I now deduce from my own result? At least I seem not to be fitting that rectangular format of Instagram, so I´m not "square". And I seem not to be ready yet, because many of my best liked works are in an unfinished state or works in progress or process ie #wip. This if a good place to continue experiments with linocuts and other arts also in the year 2021, hopefully also vaccinated. I´m in Instagram as @linokissa.

I added these sixteen small (16 x 16 cm) linocuts into my Etsy shop. Some of these have monoprint background and some are printed on decorative paper. These are priced 30 € a piece including postage and packing all over the world. The name of my Etsy shop is Linokissa.

Iloista joulunaikaa! Tässä kortissa on iloinen tunnelma. Kissa lahjapakettinsa kanssa on kuusen juurella punaisella sydämenmallisella matolla. Joulutähtenä keikkuu hiiri ja heiluttaa sydämenmallista kuusenkoristetta. Hauskanmallisen kissan on piirtänyt graafikko Osmo Omenamäki (s. 1940). Kortissa on 1970-lukulainen selkeä ja graafinen ilme.

Happy Christmas time! There really is a cheerful feeling is this card. A cat with her  Christmas present is at the foot of a fir tree on a heart shaped carpet. A mouse is swinging as a Christmas star and waving with a heart shaped decoration. This fun cat was drawn by a graphic artist Osmo Omenamäki (b. 1940). There is a clear and  graphic look from the 1970s in this card.

KAUAN SITTEN EKSYIMME TÄHÄN TÄHTEEN / LONG AGO WE GOT LOST IN THIS STAR

Parvi linopiirroslintuja lentää kuun taakse Pispalan yllä. Taivas on pastellia, kuu ja alaosa sekä linnut linopiirroksia. Tämäkin kuva sai nimensä Juice Leskisen lyriikasta Tampereen aamu-kappaleesta: Kauan sitten eksyimme tähän tähteen. Kuvan koko on  isompaa sarjaani lino/pastellitöitä eli 70 x 40 cm.

A flock of linocut birds are flying behind the moon over Pispala. The sky is a pastel drawing, the moon, bottom part and birds are linocuts. Also this picture got its name after Juice Leskinen lyrics, now from the song Morning in Tampere: Long Ago We Got Lost in this Star. The size of this picture is from the larger series of lino & pastels ie. 70 x 40 cm.

KUU TAAS TAIVAALLA - jatkoa /MOON AGAIN IN THE SAKY - Continuing

Taivaalle ilmestyi lintuja, linopiirroksia - kuinkas muuten. Tämä lintuparvi lentääkin kuun takana. Yksi tiainen kuun yläosassa syöksyy päätä pahkaa kuun taakse, vain siivet ja pyrstö näkyvät.

Birds appeared in the sky - what else. Still, this flock of birds is flying behind the moon. One of the tits on the upper part of the moon is flying helter-skelter straight behind the moon, only its win gs and tail are visible.

INTERIN JOULUPUOTI / INTERI`S CHRISTMAS SHOP

Interin joulupuoti vuodelta 2020 on nyt suljettu ja ryhdytään joulunviettoon. Runebergin mökki tyhjenee ja jää odottamaan ensi kesää. Jotenkin oli haikea tunnelma kun haettiin pois myymättömät linopiirrokset, kortit, pyyhkeet ja kalenterit. Myyntiäkin oli ilokseni ollut, kiitokset siitä kaikille ostajille! Melkein ihmeeltähän tuntuu, että mitään vuoden 2020 näyttelyitäkään ei jouduttu kokonaan peruuttamaan. Joustettu on, avajaisista luovuttu ja yksityiskäyntejä lisätty. Toivon todella, että ensi kesänä tämä koronapandemia on jo voitettu kun rokotukset alkavat vuoden 2021 alussa. Rauhallista Joulua!

Interi´s Christmas shop is now closed and we all are starting to celebrate the Christmas. Runeberg´s Cottage will be empty and wait for the next summer. It was a bit wistful feeling when we took home unsold linocuts, tea towels, cards and calendars. Still, there had been some selling to my joy, thanks to all the buyers! It feels like a small miracle, that not one of exhibitions in 2020 had to be cancelled. There sure has been some bending, there were no openings and private visits to exhibitions have increased. I really wish, that next year this pandemic is already won when the vaccinations start at the beginning of 2021. Have a Peaceful Christmas!

KUU TAAS TAIVAALLA - aloitusta / MOON AGAIN IN THE SKY - Beginning

Uusi isomman kokoinen (70 x 50 cm) linopiirroksen ja pastellipiirroksen yhdistelmä on aluillaan. Vuoden pimeimpänä päivänä (talvipäiväntasaus oli eilen) sopinee aiheeksi kirkas kuu. Iso oranssi linopiirroskuu on Pispalan yllä ja taivaskin hehkuu oranssina. Kuvan alaosassa on linopiirros Pispalan portaista ja pihasta.

A new bigger sized (70 x 50 cm) combination of linocuts and pastel drawing is at its starting point. On this darkest day of the year (it was the winter solstice yesterday) a bright moon would be a appropriate subject. A large orange linocut moon is over the Pispala and the sky is also glowing orange. At the bottom of the picture there is a linocut of Pispala stairs and a yard.

 "Nuolaisu ja lupaus" (A Lick & Promise) on tämän Clare Dawsonin  herkän piirroksen nimi. Kissan ääriviivat on tehty nopeilla kynänvedoilla. Erityisesti kissan pää on hauska, kuin avaruuskypärä. Ainut valopilkku on kissan punainen kieli. Kissa nuolaisee jo ennen kuin on maistanut jotain herkkua. Kuva on jo 1930 ilmestyneen Michael Josephin kirjan Cat´s Compan y kannessa.

This gentle drawing by Clare Dawson is called "A Lick & Promise". The silhouette of the cat has been done with quick pen stokes. The head of the cat is especially fun, like a small space helmet. The only spark of light is the cat´s red tongue. The cat is licking already before she has tasted something delicious. This picture is on the cover of Michael Joseph´s book Cat´s Company, published already in 1930.

16 MONOLINOA / 16 MONO LINOS

Tässä on vain osa viime aikoina vedostamistani linopiirroksista monoprinttitaustalla. Kaikkiaan linoja on 12 erilaista, mutta taustojahan sitten on vaikka millaisia. Ja näitä on niin kiva tehdä, että varmaan homma jatkuu tulevaisuudessakin. Kunhan ehdin, aion laittaa joukon näitä pieniä töitä verkkokauppaani Etsyssä (linokissa). Näitä samoja linoja on myös vedostettuna koristepaperille. Kaikkien koko on 16 x 16 cm. Mikä voisi olla sopiva hinta postituksineen kaikkialla maapallolla,  30 € vai jotain muuta?

Here is only part of linocuts on monoprint backgrounds I have been printing lately. All together tere are twelve different linos, but the backgrounds are what ever, all unique. And it is so nice to make these that surely the business continues also in the future. As long as I have some time, I`m planning to add these small pictures to my Etsy shop (linokissa). There are these same linocuts printed also decorative paper. They are all sized 16 x 16 cm. What might be right price for these including p&p all over the world, 30 € or something else?

LINOLIPUKKEITA / LINO SLICES

Pieniä linopiirroksia koristepapereille tai monoprinttipohjille vedostaessa otan aina ensin koevedoksen , jotta näen että mustetta on juuri sopiva määrä enkä pilaa uniikkia pohjaa. Silloin syntyy liuta lipukkeita, joita sitten käytän postitoimituksissa saatelappuina.

When printing small linocuts on decorative paper or monoprint backgrounds I always print first a test print to see if there just a right amount of ink and I would not spoil a unique base. Doing that there comes out a bunch of paper slices, and I use them later as notes with posting orders.

LENTÄVÄ KISSA / FLYING CAT

Kahdestoista ja viimeinen tätä sarjaani 16 x 16 cm kokoisia linopiirroksia monoprinttitaustalle on lentävä kissa tai enkelikissa. Taustoina on pala pitsiä ja erilaisia luonnosta löytyneitä kasvinosia kuten iso vaahteranlehti. Kunhan ehdin, aion laittaa näitä pieniä linomonoja verkkokauppaani Etsyyn.

Twelth and last in my series of 16 x 16 cm sized linocuts on monoprint background is a flying cat or angel cat. In the background there are a piece of lace and different plant part found in the nature like a big maple leaf. When I have some spare time I will put these small lino & monos for sale in my web shop at Etsy. 

LEIJUVA KISSA / FLOATING CAT

Yhdestoista linopiirros monoprinttipohjalla on leijuva kissa. Tämä kissa leijuu alaspäin jostain korkeammalta. Mutta ei pelkoa, kissa laskeutuu aina jaloilleen. Tämänkin koko on 16 x 16 cm.

Eleventh in my series of linocuts on  monoprint background is a floating cat. This cat is falling down from somewhere higher. But fear not! A cat is always landing on the ground on her feet. This is also sized 16 x 16 cm.

ILOINEN KISSA / HAPPY CAT

Kymmenes linopiirros monoprinttitaustalla on iloinen kissa. Kissa on ehkä hypännyt ilmaan innoissaan. Tausta on kohokuvioitu kangas, johon levitin värin telalla. Silloin väri tarttui vain koholla oleviin kuvioihin. The size is 16 x 16 cm.

Tenth of my linocuts on monoprint background is a happy cat. The cat has perhaps jumped in the air in ecstasies. The background is a piece of embossed fabric, and I spread the colour on the fabric with a roller. So the colour was sticking only on the embossed parts. The size is 16 x 16 cm.

Kissa kurkistaa sisälle kukkakauppaan nähdäkseen ehkä, onko iso koiranäyttely siellä kuten julisteessa kerrotaan. Koiranäyttely on Nîmesissä vuonna 1976, jolloin tämän kuvankin on ottanut ranskalainen Philippe Salaün (1943-2020). Kissaa ja julistetta ympäröi kukkien runsaus, iso seppele, kukkia ikkunalasin takana ja purkeissa ikkunan edessä. Kukkien runsaat värit voi aistia, vaikka kuva onkin sävykäs mustavalkoinen.

A cat is peeking inside a flower shop perhaps in order to see if the great dog exhibition is there as a poster tells. This dog show is in Nîmes in 1979, when this picture was also taken by French  Philippe Salaün (1943-2020). An abundance of flowers is circling the cat and poster, a big wreath, flowers behind the glass and in pots in front of the window. You can sense the plentiful colours of the flowers even though the picture is black and white.

KIITÄJÄ / MOTH

 

Yhdeksäs versio linopiirroksesta monoprintillä on kiitäjä. Oikeastaan yritin tehdä pääkallokiitäjän, mutta pääkallo ei erotu kovin hyvin. Siipien kohdalle levitin keltaista pastelliväriä ennen vedostusta. Tätä sarjaa on tosi hausta tehdä. Mahdollisuudet erilaisiin variaatioihin ovat rajattomat, ja sen voi havaita kun katsoo lattialla olevia monoprinttipohjia ennen linopiirrosten vedostusta.

The ninth version of a linocut on a monoprint is a moth. Actually I tried to make it as a skullmoth, but the skull is not very visible and clear. I spread some yellow pastel colour under the wings before printing. This series is really fun to make. The possibilities for different variations are limitless, and you can see that when watching at monoprint backgrounds on the floor before printing the linos,

HERUKKAPERHONEN / COMMA

 Kahdeksas ötökkä sarjassa linopiirroksia monoprinteille on herukkaperhonen. Yleensä väritän tämän perhosen käsin keltaisen ja ruskean kirjavaksi. Mutta nyt tausta on sen verran kirjava, että siivet jäävät mustavalkoisiksi. Monoprintissä taustalla on erilaisia lehtiä ja siemenkotia Gelli-levyltä. Koko on 16 x 16 cm.

The eight bug in my series of linocuts on monoprints is a comma, Usually I colour the wings of this butterfly by hand yellow and brown variegated. But now the background is so dappled that I left the wings black and white. On the monoprint in the background there are different leaves and seed pots on Gelli plate. The size is 16 x 16 cm.

RITARIPERHONEN / SWALLOWTAIL

Seitsemäs kuva sarjassani linopiirroksia monoprinteillä on ritariperhonen. Monoprintti on aika dramaattinen  violetti ja vihertävät lehdet ovat saniaisen lehtiä Gelli-levyllä. Koko on 16 x 16 cm.

The seventh picture in my series of linocuts on mon oprints is a swallowtail. The monoprint is quite dramatic violet and the greenish leaves are ferns on Gelli palte. The size is 16 x 16 cm.

PÄIVÄPERHO / BUTTERFLY

 

Kuudes sarjassani linopiirroksia monoprinteillä on päiväperhonen. Tavallisesti tämä perhonen on käsin väritetty, mutta nyt taustalla on niin paljon väriä että jätin perhosen mustavalkoiseksi. Kukanmallinen kuvio on kelloköynnöksen siemenkota. Tämänkin kuvan koko on 16 x 16 cm.

Sixth in my series of linoprints on monoprints is a butterfly. This butterfly is usually hand coloured, but now there is so much colour on the background that I left the butterfly black and white.The flower-shaped pattern is a seed pot of cobaea scandens. The size if trhis picture is also 16 x 16 cm.

KELTAINEN PERHONEN / YELLOW BUTTERFLY

Viides linopiirros monoprinttipohjalla on perhonen. Tällä perhosella pitää olla keltaiset siivet, joten levitin pastelliväriä siipien kohdalle ennen vedostusta (ja lisäsinkin hiukan keltaista pastellia myös vedostuksen jälkeen). Näitä monoprinttipohjia on monenlaisia, tässä keltainen pohja on tehty vaahteranlehden ja Gelli-levyn ja vihertävä kuviollisen kankaan avulla tehty monoprintti.

The fifth linocut on a monoprint is a butterfly. This butterfly has to have yellow wings, so I spread some pastel colour for the wings before printing (and added also a bit yellow pastel after printing). There are several of these  monoproint backgrounds, here the yellow one was done with a maple leaf and Gelli plate, and the greenish one was done with a patterned piece of fabric.

KUORIAINEN / BEETLE

Neljäs sarjassa linopiirroksia monoprintille on kuoriainen. Monoprintti on vihreä. Jätin keskelle hiukan vaaleamman paikan kuoriaisen vedostamiselle, en tarkkarajaista tyhjää paikkaa. Joskus linopiirroksen vedostus tarkalle paikalleen ei nimittäin onnistu, eikä minua häiritse tässä ollenkaan kuoriaislinon alle jäänyt hennompi vihreä väri. Tämänkin koko on 16 x 16 cm.

The fourth in the series of linocuts on monoprints is a beetle. The monoprint is green. I left a little lighter place in the middle for printing the beetle, not a well-definedempty space. I have noticed that sometimes it just doesn't work out printing a linocut on a well-defined place, and it does not bother me here at all that there is some lighter green colour under the beetle lino. The size is the same as with others in this series: 16 x 16 cm.

 Sveitsiläisen pilapiirtäjän ja kuvittajan Peter Gutin (s. 1959) maalaus "Tuuletin" on arvoituksellinen. Neljä kissaa istuu myrkynvihreässä huoneessa omituisilla hyllyillä, jotka on ripustettu tuulettimen siipiin. Kissoilla on rusetit kaulassa ja yhdellä myös aurinkolasit. Joku on nostanut kissat tuulettimen hyllyille. Ihmisen läsnäoloon viittaa avoin ovi. Mutta mitä tapahtuu kun joku laittaa tuulettimen päälle, eikä mikään voima pidä heppoisia hyllyjen naruja tuulettimien siivillä? Lentävätkö kissat päistikkaa päin seiniä?

This painting "Fan" by Swiss caricaturist and illustrator Peter Gut (b. 1959) is somewhat puzzling. Four cats are sitting in a poison green room on peculiar shelves hung on the wings of a fan. Cats are wearing bowties, and one of them has also sunglasses. Someone has lifted the cats onto the shelves of the fan. An open door is hinting of human presence. But what happens when someone puts the fan on, and there is no power to keep the slight ropes of the shelves on the wings of the fan? Do the cats fly headfirst to the walls?

KOLIBRI / HUMMINGBIRD

Kolibri on kolmas lintu sarjassa pieniä 12 x 12  cm  linopiirroksia monoprinttitaustalla. Tässä taustalla on luonnosta löytyviä kasvinosia, jotka on laitettu gelli-levylle, levitetty sitten ruskea väri ja poimittu kasvinosat pois ennen taustan vedostusta.

A hummingbird is third bird in my series of small 12 x 12 cm linocuts on a Gelliprint background. Here there are plant part found in nature on background placed first on Gelliprint plate, the brown colours was spresd with a roller. and the plant parts were taken away before printing the background.
