KÄRPÄSTEN JUHLAT /FEAST OF THE FLIES

 

"Kärpästen juhlat" sai nimekseen tämä 70 x 40 cm kokoinen sekatekniikkatyö linopiirroksia ja pehmeää pastellia. Nimi on lainattu MIkko Saarelan Organ-yhtyeelle säveltämästä kappaleesta. No, ilmassa on kyllä muitakin kuin kärpäsiä, kaikkiaan 40 hyönteistä, koppakuoriaisia suurin osa. Mahtaakohan yksikään olla kärpänen. Alaosassa on kaksi A4-kokoista linopiirrosta Pispalan taloista rinnakkain, ja toisessa seilaa höyrylaiva. Kuu ja hyönteiset ovat myös linopiirroksia, mutta taivas on pastellia. Hyönteisparvella näyttää olevan matka samaan sunntaan kuin laivalla.

"Feast Of the Flies" will be the name of this 70 x 40 cm sized mixed media work of linocuts and soft pastel. The name has been loaned from Mikko Saarela's composition to his band Organ. Well, there are also other creatures in the air than flies, all together 40 insects, mainly beetles. Might there be even one fly. At the bottom there are two A4-sized linocuts of Pispala houses side by side, and there is sailing a steam boat in one of them. The moon and insects are also linocuts, but the sky was made with soft pastel. The flock of insects seems to have flying to the same direction that the boat is sailing.

Uusi pastellitaivas isompaan sarjaani linopiirros/pastelli -sekatöitä tulee täyteen pieniä ja hiukan isompia linopiirroksia tai oikeastaan leimasimia hyönteisistä.

KORROJEN KARKELOT / BUGS GALORE

Uusi vuosi 2020 on saatu käyntiin ja Korrojen karkelot -kuvaan on nyt vedostettu 33 hyönteistä tai korroa. Tämä on linopiirrosten (kuvan alaosa, kuu ja hyönteiset) ja pastellin (taivas) yhdistelmä. Kuvan koko on 50 x 30 cm.

The new year 2020 has got started, and I printed 33 insects or bugs on my Bugs Galore picture. This is a combination of linocuts (the bottom part of the picture, moon and bugs) and pastel drawing (the sky).  The size of the picture is 50 x 30 cm.

KORROJEN KARKELOT - aloitusta / BUGS GALORE - Beginning

Kullanvärinen kuu taivaalla ja paljon hyönteisiä - sehän on korrojen karkelot. Uuden 50 x 30 cm kokoisen pastellitaivas + linopiirroksia - työ on alkuvaiheessaan. Linopiirros kuusta on vedostettu kultavärillä ja väriin on lisätty kullanväristä kiillettä jo siinä vaiheessa kun väri on märkää. Kuvan alaosassa on linopiirros kissasta laiturilla järven rannassa ja pastellitaivas tulee olemaan täynnä pieniä ja hiukan isompia linopiirroksia hyönteisistä. Hyönteisten vedostus jää ensi vuoden puolelle. Kaikille blogiini eksyneille siis Onnellista Uutta Vuotta 2020!

 A golden moon and a lot of insects - well, that is bugs galore! A new 50 x 30 cm sized work of a pastel sky and linocuts is on its early stages. The linocut of the moon is printed with golden ink, and some golden glitter was added to the colour already when it was wet. At the bottom of the picture there is a linocut of a cat on a pier by the side of a lake, and the pastel sky will be full of small and a bit bigger linocuts of insects. HEI, ODOTTAKAA MUA! / HEY, WAIT FOR ME!

Tämän kuvan "se" piti olla oranssi perhonen. Mutta sitten tuli pieni lentävä kuoriainen ja varasti pääosan. Vasemmassa alakulmassa pieni korro huutaa muille hyönteisille ja perhoselle: "Hei, älkää jättäkö, odottakaa mua!" Tämä sekatekniikkatyö on lisäys sarjaani linopiirroksia pastellitaivaalla. Alaosan seitsemän kissaa piknikillä on linopiirros, samoin kuu, perhonen ja hyönteiset. Taivas on pastellipiirros. Tykkään tehdä näitä sekateniikkatöitä, sillä niihin saa mielestäni sopivaa kerroksellisuutta ja erilaisten pintojen vaihtelua. Tämänkin koko on 50 x 30 cm kuten muidenkin tässä sarjassa.

The "clue" of this picture was supposed to be the butterfly. But then there came a small flying beetle and stole the main part. On the lower right corner there is a small bug shouting to other insects and butterfly: Hey, Don't leave, wait for me!" This mixed media work is an addition to me series of linocuts on pastel sky. The bottom part of seven cats having a picnic is a linocut, and so are the moon, butterfly and insects. The sky is a pastel drawing. I like to make these mixed media works, because it's possible to get suitable layering and surface variability. This is also sized 50 x 30 cm as the other works in this series.

SATEENKAARI / RAINBOW

Linopiirros/pastellityö sateenkaaresta on nyt valmis. Täydellisen sateenkaaren sisällä oleva osa on vaaleampi kuin taivas sateenkaaren ulkopuolella. Siihen varmaan vaikuttavat ilmassa kimmeltävät pienet sadepisarat. Sateenkaaren puolipyöreää muotoa toistaa kuvan yläosassa oleva hyönteisparvi.

The linocut & pastel drawing of a rainbow is now ready. The inner part of a full rainbow is brighter than the sky outside the rainbow. I think the reason are the tiny rain drops glimmering in the air. The semi-circular shape of the rainbow is repeated on the upper side of the picture by a flock of insects.

Kun  Suomen sää on synkkä ja lähestytään vuoden pimeintä aikaa, on hauska tehdä jotain kesäistä kuvaa. Aloitin uuden 50 x 30 cm kokoisen pastellitaivaan sarjaan linopiirroksia ja pastellipiirrosta. Tässä kuvassa on  täydellinen sateenkaari Pispalan yllä. Yläosaan on vielä tulossa parvi hyönteisiä linopiirroksina.

When the weather in Finland is gloomy and we are approaching the darkest time of the year, it's fun to make a summery picture. A started a new 50 x 30 cm sized pastel sky to my series of linocuts and pastel drawings. There is a full rainbow in this picture over Pispala. On the upper part there will still be a flock of insects. 

TAIVAS TÄYNNÄ HYÖNTEISIÄ /SKY FULL OF INSECTS

Kesän aikana tehdyt pienet linoleikkaukset perhosista, kovakuoriaisista ja hyönteisistä täyttävät tämän kuvan jokseenkin kokonaan. Pikaisesti laskien hyönteisiä on yli seitsemänkymmentä eli yhtä monta mahdollisuutta pilata koko kuva jos yhden linoleikkauksen vedostus menee pilalle. Pohjalla on pastellipiirros pelloista. Kuva on aika iso: 63 x 43 cm. 

Small linocuts of butterflies, beetles and insects fill up almost all of this picture. After a quick counting there are over seventy insects, and as many possibilities to ruin the picture by pulling badly one of the linocuts. There is a pastel drawing of fields at the bottom. The picture is quite big: 63 x 43 cm.

LISÄÄ PIENIÄ HYÖNTEISIÄ / MORE SMALL INSECTS

Kesän aikana tein lisää pieniä linoleikkauksia hyönteisistä. Ideana on koota näitä isompiin kollaaseihin aiemmin tehtyjen perhosten ja kovakuoriaisten kanssa. Sudenkorennosta voisi ehkä kehitellä jotain yksinäänkin.

I made more small linocuts of insects during the summer. The idea is to collect these in bigger collages together with butterflies and beetles I made earlier. Perhaps I might also develop something with the dragonfly alone. 

PIENIÄ HYÖNTEISIÄ / SMALL INSECTS

Tein muutaman pienen linoleikkauksen hyönteisistä, koppakuoriaisista ja muista ötököistä. Ajattelin käyttää näitä osana isompaa kollaasia tai yhdessä jonkun isomman hyönteislinon kanssa. 

I made a couple of small linocuts of insects, beetles and other bugs. I thought to use these as a part of a bigger collage or together with some larger insect linos.
