BERLIINI SUOMIX -NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

Pienen työryhmämme Berliini Suomix -sarjakuvanäyttely saatiin Tampereelle. Näyttely on esillä Tampereen yliopiston yläaulassa 11.3 .- 6.4.2019 osana Tampere Kuplii 2019 -sarjakuvatahtumaa. Christian Jütte toimi kuraattorina ja ideoi Berliini-aiheiset tarinat, joista työrymäläiset tekivät omat sarjakuvansa. Oma tarinani kertoi Lilly-kissasta, joka löytyi Berliinin kadulta ja päätyi Christianin perheen kotikissaksi. Tein sarjakuvani linopiirroksina. Muut sarjakuvien tekijät työryhmässä ovat: Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi NIeminen, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Tämä näyttely on aiemmin ollut esillä Berliinissä kahdessa eri galleriassa ja Helsingin Goethe-instituutissa. Hienoa saada näyttely vielä omaan kotikaupunkiinkin!

We got our small  work group's comics exhibition Berliini Suomix to Tampere. The exhibition is from 11th, March till 6th, April at the University of Tampere (upper floor lobby) as part of the bigger comics event Tampere Kuplii 2019. Christian Jütte was the curator and created Berlin-themed stories, and the work group made their own comics based on these stories. My own story was of the cat Lilly, who was found in the streets of Berlin and ended up as a housecat in Christian's family. I made my comic strip as linocuts. The other comics artists in the work group are:  Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi NIeminen, Tiitu Takalo and Tuukka Teponoja. This exhibition has earlier been been on display at two galleries in Berlin and at the Goethe Institut in Helsinki. It's nice to have this exhibition now even in our own home town!

LILLY BERLIN

Berliini Suomix -sarjakuvanäyttely on nyt avoinna Suomessa, Helsingin Goethe-Instituutissa  syyskuun ajan 1.9. - 29.9.2016. Tämä Christian Jütten kuratoima näyttely on tänä vuonna jo ollut esillä kahdessa galleriassa Berliinissä. Näyttelyssä on kuusi Berliini-aiheista sarjakuvaa Christian Jütten tarinoihin ja lisäksi Christianin sarjakuva-aiheisia pienoispatsaita. Oma tarinani Lilly Berlin kuvaa kissaa, jonka vanha mies löytää Berliinin kadulta ja joka lopuksi saa kodin Christianin perheen luota. Muut sarjakuvataiteilijat näyttelyssä ovat: Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Näyttely on osa Helsingin sarjakuvafestivaalia.

Berliini Suomix comics exhibition has now opened in Finland in Goethe Institute in Helsinki, and it is open for the September. This exhibition curated by Christian Jütte has already been in two galleries in Berlin. There are six Berlin-themed comics in this exhibition after Christian Jütte's stories and also Christian's figurines.  My story Lilly Berlin depicts a cat found by an old man in the street in Berlin, and the cat finally finds her place in Christian's home. The other comics artists in this exhibition are:  Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. The exhibition is part of Helsinki Cartoon Festival. 

SHOXXX BOXXX

Sarjakuvanäyttelymme Berliini Suomix sai jatkoajan Berliinissä. Näyttely on esillä Shoxx Boxxx -galleriassa tämän viikon 11.-17.4.2016 ja osuu samaan aikaan kuin iso Comic Invasion Berlin -sarjakuvataphtuma. Omat työni saivat hauskan punaisen seinän taustalleen. Kuvassa mukana on galleristi Shou. Christian Jütten kuratoimassa näyttelyssä on Christianin veistosten lisäksi sarjakuvia myös näiltä tekijöiltä: Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja.

Our comics exhibition Berliini Suomix got some exstra time in Berlin. The exhibition is now in Shoxxx Boxxx Galleryfor this week from 11th to 17th April, 2016, and it is presented at the same time as the big Comic Invasion Berlin happening. My works are hanging on a fun red wall. In the picture is also the gallerist Shou. In this exhibition curated by Christian Jütte there are in addition to Christians sculptures also comics by Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo and Tuukka Teponoja. 

BERLIINI SUOMIX -NÄYTTELYLUETTELO / CATALOG

Tänään sain oman kappaleeni Berliini Suomix -sarjakuvanäyttelyn luetteloa ja huomasin, että linoleikkaus sarjakuvastani Lilly Berlin oli päässyt takakanteen. Kirjasessa on lyhyt esittely kustakin näyttelyyn osallistuneesta sarjakuvan tekijästä: Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila,Emmi Nieminen, TiituTakalo ja Tuukka Teponoja itseni lisäksi sekä kuraatttori Christian Jütte. Myös muutama esimerkki tekijän muusta tuotannosta on esittelyn yhteydessä. Itse näyttely Berllinissä Galleria Vierraumladenissa 26.2.-4.3.2016 oli onnistunut, kävijöitä riitti ja mukana olleita linoleikkauksiani myytiinkin muutama, mikä oli yllätys.

I received today my copy of the exhibition catalog of Berliini Suomix exhibition in Berlin from 26th February to 4th March, 2016, and I noticed that a linocut of my comic strip Lilly Berlin was on the back cover of the catalog. In the booklet there are short introduction of the artists participating to the exhibition:  Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila,Emmi Nieminen, TiituTakalo ja Tuukka Teponoja in addition to myself, and the curator Christian Jütte. There are also a few examples of the artists' works besides the comic strips. The exhibition in Galerie Vierraumladen was successful, there were enough visitors, and even some of my linocuts in the exhibition were sold, which was a surprise.

Kuvat toiseen sivuun Lilly Berlin -sarjakuvasta ovat nyt koossa. Mies löytää Lilly-kissan Berliinin kadulta ja löytää myös kissalle uuden kodin. Sarjakuva suurennetaan kahdeksi A2-kokoiseksi sivuksi ja ripustetaan Berliini aiheiseen sarjakuvanäyttelyyn Berliiniin 26.2.-4.3.2016. Näyttelyn nimi osuvasti Berliini Suomix ja mukana on lisäkseni viisi sarjakuvan tekijää: Pertti Hämäläinen, Emmi Nieminen, Timo Kokkila, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Kukin on tehnyt oman tyylisensä sarjakuvan Christian Jütten tarinaan.

Pictures for the second page of my linocut comic strip are now ready. A man finds Lilly the cat in the street of Berlin, and he also finds a new home for Lilly. The comic strip will be enlarged to two A2-sized pages, and it will be exhibited in Berlin 26 February till 4 March, 2016 in a comics-themed exhibition. The exhibition is aptly named Berliini Suomix, and there will be six artists in addition to myself: Pertti Hämäläinen, Emmi Nieminen, Timo Kokkila, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Each one of us has made a comic strip in his/her own style to a story by Christian Jütte.

Sarjakuvan ensimmäiselle sivulle Lilly-kissasta tein otsikonkin linoleikkauksena. Lilly eksyi Berliinin  kaduilla, eivätkä muut katukissat hyväksyneet sitä joukkoonsa. Vanha mies löysi kissan kadunkulmasta.

Berliinin kadulta löytyneestä Lilly-kissasta kertovan sarjakuvan viimeisessä yhdeksännessä ruudussa Lilly loikoilee tyytyväisenä uuden kotinsa nojatuolissa. Uuden perheen osaksi suomalaisista asukkaista muistuttavat siniset Marimekko-verhot. Sarjakuva on kokonaan tehty linoleikkauksina, ja vain tässä viimeisessä ruudussa on vähän väriä, sinistä pastellia.

In this last and ninth frame of Lilly the cat found in the street of Berlin Lilly is sprawling with satisfaction on the armchair of her new home. The blue Marimekko curtain are a remainder of the family's partly Finnish members. This comic strip is made as black and white linocuts, and only in this last frame there is some blue pastel colour.

In this small linocut there is a for Berlin typical streetlamp and a tiny guardian angel cat. The picture is seventh frame of my comic strip of a cat found in the street of Berlin. The old man who found the cat gets a fine idea: " I know just the right new home for you".

Kuudennessä ruudussa Lilly Berlin sarjakuvaa Lilly-kissa nukkuu sen kadulta löytäneen vanhan miehen kämmenissä. Pienen kissan ei ole helppoa olla yksin Berliinin kaduilla, mutta nyt se on löytänyt ystävän, johon luottaa. Käytin linoleikkauksen mallina valokuvaa kämmenistä ja jätin ne kuvassa mustiksi, jotta pieni kissa erottuisi paremmin.

In this sixth frame of Lilly Berlin comic strip the cat is sleeping in the hollow of the hands of the man who found her in the street of Berlin.It is not easy to a small cat alone in the streets of Berlin, but now she has found a friend she can trust upon. I used a photograph of hand as a model for this linocut and left the hands black, so that the cat would stand out more clearly.

An old man is making friends with a cat Lilly, which he found in the streets in Berlin. Now the man and the cat are already good friends and they are sitting on a bench in a Berlin park. This is the fifth frame of my linocut comic strip of a cat found in Berlin.

Sarjakuvani Berliinin kaduilla eksyneeestä kissasta on ehtinyt neljänteen ruutuunsa. Tässä linoleikkauksessa vanha mies yrittää ottaa kissan syliinsä, mutta kissaa pelottaa. Suuret kourat tuntuvat pelottavilta, eikä oikein keneenkään ole syytä luottaa.

My comic strip of a cat lost in the streets of Berlin reaches now it's forth frame. In this linocut the old man is trying to capture the cat, but the cat is scared. The big hands feel frightening, and there is really nobody you could trust.

Kolmas ruutu Berliinin kaduilta löytyvän kissan sarjakuvatarinaan on valmis. Kuvassa piippua polttava mies löytää kissan vakiopaikaltaan kadunkulmasta.  Hän antaa kissalle nimen: Lilly. Linoleikkauksessa on aika monta Berliinille tyypillistä aihetta: katulyhdyt, mainospylväs, hiili- ja olutmainoksia ja vanhoja taloja. Taivaalle ilmestyi Lillyn suojelusenkeli.

The third frame for my comic strip story of a cat found in the streets of Berlin is ready. In this picture a man smoking a pipe finds a cat on his regular place on a street corner. He gives a name for the cat: Lilly. There are quite many topics typical for Berlin: street lamps, a kiosk, coal and beer advertisements and old buildings. Lilly's guardian angel appeared on the sky.

Hän päätti järjestää Berliiniin sarjakuvanäyttelyn, johon hän kutsui kuusi piirtäjää - tai oikeastaan viisi piirtäjää ja yhden linoleikkaajan. Tarinat ovat Christian Jütten ja kuvitus piirtäjien. Mukana ovat lisäkseni Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Minun tarinassani Berliinissä kadulta löytyy kissa ensimmäisessä ruudussa. Mistä se oikein tuli?

This is something I have not tried earlier: comic strip. Now I´m working on a nine-framed cartoon in linocut technique. The idea is of a friend, Christian Jütte. He got the idea to organize a comic strip exhibition in Berlin, and he invited along six cartoonists - or actually five cartoonists and one linocutter. The stories are Christian Jütte's and the illustrations of the cartoonists. In this exhibition I´m accompanied by Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo, and Tuukka Teponoja. In my story a cat is found in a street of Berlin in the first frame. Where did she come from?
