BERLIINI SUOMIX - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

Huomenna aukeaa Berliinissä sarjakuva-aiheinen yhteisnäyttely Berliini Suomix, jossa olen mukana. Näyttely on avoinna Galerie Vierraumladenissa 26.2.-4.3.2016. Näyttelyn ideana oli tehdä sarjakuvia Berliinissä lapsuutensa ja nuoruutensa asuneen Christian Jütten Berliini-aiheisiin tarinoihin. Oma tarinani kertoo kissasta, jonka vanha mies löytää Berliinin kaduilta, ja kissa saa uuden kodin Christianin luota. Muut näyttelyn taiteilijat ovat kokeneempia sarjakuvan tekijöitä: Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Minulle tämä projekti oli mielenkiintoinen, innostava ja uudenlainen tapa koota linoleikkauksista kaksi A2-kokoista sarjakuvasivua. Emmi Nieminen suunnitteli julisteen, jossa vastakkain ovat Saksan karhu ja Suomen leijona.

A comics-themed group exhibition Berliini Suomix will be open tomorrow in Berlin, accompanied also by me. The exhibition is in Galerie Vierraumladen between 26th of February and 4th March 2016. The idea of this exhibition was to make comics to Christian Jütte's Berlin-themed stories from his childhood and youth which he spend in Berlin. My story is of a cat, which was found by an old man in the streets of Berlin, and the cat got a new home by Christian. The other artist in this exhibition are more experienced in the field of comics: Pertti Hämäläinen, Timo Kokkila, Emmi Nieminen, Tiitu Takalo and Tuukka Teponoja. For me this project was an interesting, inspirational and novel way to combine linocuts to two A2-sized pages of comic strip. Emmi Nieminen designed the poster with the German bear and Finnish lion in it.

Kuvat toiseen sivuun Lilly Berlin -sarjakuvasta ovat nyt koossa. Mies löytää Lilly-kissan Berliinin kadulta ja löytää myös kissalle uuden kodin. Sarjakuva suurennetaan kahdeksi A2-kokoiseksi sivuksi ja ripustetaan Berliini aiheiseen sarjakuvanäyttelyyn Berliiniin 26.2.-4.3.2016. Näyttelyn nimi osuvasti Berliini Suomix ja mukana on lisäkseni viisi sarjakuvan tekijää: Pertti Hämäläinen, Emmi Nieminen, Timo Kokkila, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Kukin on tehnyt oman tyylisensä sarjakuvan Christian Jütten tarinaan.

Pictures for the second page of my linocut comic strip are now ready. A man finds Lilly the cat in the street of Berlin, and he also finds a new home for Lilly. The comic strip will be enlarged to two A2-sized pages, and it will be exhibited in Berlin 26 February till 4 March, 2016 in a comics-themed exhibition. The exhibition is aptly named Berliini Suomix, and there will be six artists in addition to myself: Pertti Hämäläinen, Emmi Nieminen, Timo Kokkila, Tiitu Takalo ja Tuukka Teponoja. Each one of us has made a comic strip in his/her own style to a story by Christian Jütte.

Sarjakuvan ensimmäiselle sivulle Lilly-kissasta tein otsikonkin linoleikkauksena. Lilly eksyi Berliinin  kaduilla, eivätkä muut katukissat hyväksyneet sitä joukkoonsa. Vanha mies löysi kissan kadunkulmasta.

On the first page of my comic strip of the cat Lilly I made also the headline as a linocut. Lilly went astray in the streets of Berlin, and the other street cats didn't approved her in their ranks. An old man found Lilly on a street corner.

Berliinin kadulta löytyneestä Lilly-kissasta kertovan sarjakuvan viimeisessä yhdeksännessä ruudussa Lilly loikoilee tyytyväisenä uuden kotinsa nojatuolissa. Uuden perheen osaksi suomalaisista asukkaista muistuttavat siniset Marimekko-verhot. Sarjakuva on kokonaan tehty linoleikkauksina, ja vain tässä viimeisessä ruudussa on vähän väriä, sinistä pastellia.

In this last and ninth frame of Lilly the cat found in the street of Berlin Lilly is sprawling with satisfaction on the armchair of her new home. The blue Marimekko curtain are a remainder of the family's partly Finnish members. This comic strip is made as black and white linocuts, and only in this last frame there is some blue pastel colour.

Lilly-kissan uutta kotia vartioi suojelusenkelikissa. "Tätä tapahtuu vain Berliinissä, suojelusenkeli, jolla on kuono". Kuva on kahdeksannen ruudun kulma linoleikkaussarjakuvaan Berliinin kadulta löytyneestä Lilly-kissasta.

Tässä pienessä linoleikkauksessa on tyypillinen vanha berliiniläinen katulamppu ja pienenpieni suojelusenkeli-kissa. Kuva on seitsemäs ruutu sarjakuvaan Berliinin kadulta löytyneestä Lilly-kissasta. Kissan löytänyt vanha mies saa idean: "Tiedänkin sinulle juuri sopivan uuden kodin".

In this small linocut there is a for Berlin typical streetlamp and a tiny guardian angel cat. The picture is seventh frame of my comic strip of a cat found in the street of Berlin. The old man who found the cat gets a fine idea: " I know just the right new home for you".

Kuudennessä ruudussa Lilly Berlin sarjakuvaa Lilly-kissa nukkuu sen kadulta löytäneen vanhan miehen kämmenissä. Pienen kissan ei ole helppoa olla yksin Berliinin kaduilla, mutta nyt se on löytänyt ystävän, johon luottaa. Käytin linoleikkauksen mallina valokuvaa kämmenistä ja jätin ne kuvassa mustiksi, jotta pieni kissa erottuisi paremmin.

In this sixth frame of Lilly Berlin comic strip the cat is sleeping in the hollow of the hands of the man who found her in the street of Berlin.It is not easy to a small cat alone in the streets of Berlin, but now she has found a friend she can trust upon. I used a photograph of hand as a model for this linocut and left the hands black, so that the cat would stand out more clearly.

Vanha mies ystävystyy Berliinin kadulta löytämänsä Lilly-kissan kanssa. Nyt mies ja kissa istuvat jo hyvinä ystävinä berliiniläisen puiston penkillä. Tämä on viides ruutu Lilly-kissasta kertovasta sarjakuvasta.

An old man is making friends with a cat Lilly, which he found in the streets in Berlin. Now the man and the cat are already good friends and they are sitting on a bench in a Berlin park. This is the fifth frame of my linocut comic strip of a cat found in Berlin.

Sarjakuvani Berliinin kaduilla eksyneeestä kissasta on ehtinyt neljänteen ruutuunsa. Tässä linoleikkauksessa vanha mies yrittää ottaa kissan syliinsä, mutta kissaa pelottaa. Suuret kourat tuntuvat pelottavilta, eikä oikein keneenkään ole syytä luottaa.

My comic strip of a cat lost in the streets of Berlin reaches now it's forth frame. In this linocut the old man is trying to capture the cat, but the cat is scared. The big hands feel frightening, and there is really nobody you could trust.
