UUSIA PIKKUKALOJA / NEW SMALL FISH

 

Muutaman uuden pienen linopiirroksen kaloista tein isoa merikrotti-sekatekniikkatyötä varten. Näiden pikkukalojen koko on vain noin 2 x 2 cm ja liimasin ne kuohuviinipullon korkkeihin. Näin voin käyttää niitä kuin leimasimia. Tällaisista pienistä kaloista voi koota isompia kalaparvia ja saada parveen haluamansa muodon. Mitä jos tekisin kuvan, jossa on vain kaloja?

I made a few new small linocuts of fish for a large mixed media work of an anglerfish. These little fish are only about 2 x 2 cm in size and I glued them to the caps of sparkling wine corks. This way I can use them like stamps. You can assemble larger flock of fish from such small fish and make the flock any shape you want. What if I made a picture with only fish?

Joulu on jo ohi ja uusi vuosi 2026 ovella. 

Joulukuusi näyttää jo hiukan riutuneelta. Viisi keltaista lintua enää koristaa kuusen oksia. mutta, mitä sitten tapahtuu? 

Ovelan näköinen kissa hiipii lähemmäs. Ehkä se vain haluaisi leikkiä viimeisillä kuusenkoristeilla. Mutta pettymys on suuri, kun kissa huomaa, että jäljellä on enää kuusen tähti, eikä kissa sinne ylety. Kortin on piirtänyt Sandra Boynton.

Christmas is already over and the new year 2026 is just around the corner. The Christmas tree is already looking a bit worn out. Five yellow birds are now decorating the branches of the tree. But what happens then? A cunning-looking cat sneaks closer. Maybe it just wants to play with the last decorations on the tree. But the disappointment is great when the cat notices that there is only one star left on the tree, and the cat can't reach it. The card is drawn by Sandra Boynton.

HUKUIN, NUKUIN, HERÄSIN /I DROWNED, I SLEPT, I WOKE UP

 

Nyt taitaa olla valmis tämä isohko sekatekniikkatyö lyhtykalasta Tahmelan rantavesissä. Kuvan yläosassa Pispalan rinne - linopiirros nousee Tahmelan rannasta viljelypalstojen taakse. Punaisessa haulitornissa loistaa ikkunoista valo. Vesi on tehty pehmeällä pastellilla, mutta simpukat, vesikasvit ja kalat ovat linopiirroksia. Pari trooppista kalaa on käsin väritetty. Eikä tällaisia kaloja Tahmelan rannan matalassa vedessä ui muuten kuin mielikuvituksessani. Kuvan koko on 130 x 90 cm. Nimeä etsin työlle pitkään, ja päädyin tällaiseen Juice Leskisen kappaleesta Syvänmeren sukeltaja: "Hukuin, nukuin, heräsin - mä täältä löysin taivaan".

Now I think I've finished this rather large mixed media work of lanternfish in the waters of Tahmela. At the top of the picture, the Pispala ridge - a linocut - rises from the shore of Tahmela behind the vegetable plots. Light shines from the windows in the red shot tower. The water is done with soft pastel, but the mussels, aquatic plants and fish are linocuts. A couple of tropical fish have been hand-colored. And there are no fish like this swimming in the shallow water of Tahmela shore except in my imagination. The size of the picture is 130 x 90 cm. I searched for a name for the work for a long time, and I ended up with this one from Juice Leskinen's song Deep Sea Diver: "I drowned, I slept, I woke up - I found heaven here".

HIMMELBLAU /JOULUN HARSOMAA / CHRISTMAS EXHIBITION

Galleria Himmelblaun joulunäyttelyssä on kirjava kattaus kahdessa kerroksessa ja vielä grafiikanpajassakin. Isossa tehdassalissa näkyy aika paljon ronskeja naishahmoja, maalauksia, tekstiilitöitä ja veistoksia. No, onhan tekijöissä miehiäkin Tapani Kokon joulun harsomaasta alkaen.

The Christmas exhibition at Gallery Himmelblau has a varied spread of art over two floors and even a printmaking workshop. The large factory hall displays quite a few chubby female figures, paintings, textile works and sculptures. Well, there are also men among the artists, starting with Tapani Kokko's Christmas Garland.

Ihan kohta on joulu, enää pari päivää! Englantilaisen kuvittajan Naomi Wilkinsonin kortissa hymyilee kissa-joulukuusenkoriste. Tausta on jouluisen vihreä ja kissa vaaleanpunainen, ehkä metallia. Kissalla on päässä ensikatsomalla pieni hattu, mutta se onkin kiinnike, jolla joulukuusenkoriste ripustetaan kuusen oksalle.

Christmas is almost here, just a few days away! A card by English illustrator Naomi Wilkinson features a smiling cat Christmas tree ornament. The background is a Christmassy green and the cat pink, perhaps metallic. At first glance, the cat is wearing a small hat, but it is actually a clip that is used to hang the Christmas tree ornament on the branch.

PIKKUKALOJA / LITTLE FISH: osa/Part 7

 

Lisäsin liudan linopiirroksia pikkukaloista kuvan vasemmalle reunalle. Kalaparvi on matkalla ylös rantaan. Linopiirrokset ovat leimasimia, jotka olen liimannut viinipullon korkkeihin jotta niihin saa hiukan painovoimaa. Näitä pikkukalojen stamppeja voisi lisätä leimasinmusteellakin, mutta käytän tässä ihan tavallista linoväriä.

I added a bunch of linocuts of little fish to the left side of the picture. A flock of fish is making their way up to the shore. The linocuts are stamps that I have glued to wine bottle caps to give them a bit of gravity. These little fish stamps could also be added with stamp ink, but I am using regular linoprint ink here.

KALAPARVI / FLOCK OF FISH: osa/Part 6

 

Pastelliveteen alkaa nyt muotoutua parvi kaloja. Kalat liikkuvat kuvan oikealla reunalta ylös rantaveteen. Pari outoakin kalaa näkyy vasemmassa alakulmassa: minikokoinen hai ja pallokala. Näitäkään lajeja ei varmuudella ole Tahmelan rantavedessä, mutta mielikuvituksessa sekin on mahdollista.

A flock of fish is now starting to form in the pastel water. The fish are moving from the right edge of the picture up into the shore water. A couple of strange fish can be seen in the lower left corner: a mini-sized shark and a puffer fish. These species are also definitely not found in the Tahmela shore water, but in the imagination they are also possible.

LISÄÄ KALOJA / MORE FISH : osa/part 5

 

Sekatekniikkatyö lyhtykalasta Tahmelan rannassa sai väliaikaisesti häädön joulujuhlien tieltä pesuhuoneeseen. Mahtui sinne juuri ja juuri, ja kaikenlaisia vaaroja on näin ison paperin siirtelyssä.Lisää kaloja veteen jo tuli uiskentelemaan.

The mixed-media work of the lantern fish on the Tahmela shore was temporarely moved to the washroom due to the Christmas party. It barely fit in there, and there are all kinds of dangers in moving such a large piece of paper. More fish have already come to swim in the water.

SIRKKALIISA VIRTANEN & PIRKKO VUORI - NÄYTTELY /EXHIBITION

 

Poikettiin galleria Koppelossa ihailemassa sympaattista taidenäyttelyä.

Sirkkaliisa Virtanen maalaa vesiväreillä ja musteella runsaita kasveja, rauhallisia maisemia ja abstraktisia sommitelmiakin.

Uusi tuttavuus oli Pirkko Vuori ja hänen kaunisväriset akryylimaalauksensa ja hienot vesivärityönsä, joissa aiheet olivat realistisia, kukkia, interiööri, jopa lehmä.

We stopped by the Koppelo gallery to admire a nice art exhibition. Sirkkaliisa Virtanen paints abundant plants, peaceful landscapes and abstract compositions with watercolors and ink. A new acquaintance was Pirkko Vuori and her beautifully colored acrylic paintings and fine watercolor works, where the subjects were realistic, flowers, interiors, even a cow.

Joulu lähestyy, joten korttilaatikosta jouluinen kuva. Englantilaisen Martin Lemanin (s. 1937) Joulutassu / Santa Paws on tömäkkä joulukissa. Etutassut ristissä hän nojaa lumiseen tiiliaitaan. Pään päälle on laskeutunut punarinta, johon silmät kohdistuvat. Olkoon siellä joulun kunniaksi!  Syvän sininen tähtitaivas ja laakerinlehdet korostavat joulutunnelmaa.

LYHDYN VALONSÄTEET / STRAYS OF LIGHT OF THE LANTERN : osa /part 4

 

Linopiirrokset kaloista ovat edelleen vedostamatta, mutta suunnittelen jo niiden taakse merikrotin valonsäteitä. Vaaleamman ja tummemman sinisen pastelliveden välissä tulee olemaan vihertävää vettä eli pastelliväriä.

The linocuts of the fish are still unprinted, but I'm already planning the light rays of the monkfish behind them. Between the lighter and darker blue pastel water, there will be greenish water, pastel color.

POHJAVETTÄ / BOTTOM WATER : osa /part 3

 

Pastelliveteen alkoi jo muotoutua pohja, johon auringon valo hiukan  heijastuu. Pohjaan on tulossa pieniä linopiirroksia kotiloista, yksi meritähti ja pari vesikasvia. joille haen paikkoja. Pohjassa vesi tulee olemaan tumman sininen, ja vesi vaalenee kun mennään pintaa kohti. Pienille linopiirroksille kaloista haen paikkoja.

The pastel water and bottom have already started to take shape, with a little sunlight reflecting off the bottom. I'm looking for places for small linocuts of seashells, one starfish and a couple of aquatic plants on the bottom. The water will be dark blue at the bottom, and the water will lighten as we move towards the surface. I'm looking for places for small linocuts of fish.

MERIKROTIN VALO / LIGHT OF THE MONKFISH : osa /part 2

 

Lyhtykala eli merikrotti tulee olemaan tämän pastelliveden kuningas. Sillä on lyhty, jolla levittää valonsäteitä pohjaan asti. Tässä vaiheessa tein aika kirkkaan keltaiset valonsäteet ja ne näyttävät hirveiltä. Voisin heittää hanskat tiskiin, mutta aion peittää kirkkaimman valon sinisen tai vihertävän veden alle.

The lanternfish, or monkfish, will be the king of this pastel water. It has a lantern that spreads rays of light all the way to the bottom. At this point I made the rays of light quite bright yellow my gloves in the sink, but I'm going to cover the brightest light under the blue or greenish water.
