TEOKSIA IITTALAAN / ART WORKS TO IITTALA

Iittalan perinteistä naivistista kesänäyttelyä aletaan kohta pystyttää. Näyttely aukeaa 4.6.2020 jos koronatilanne sen sallii. Sitä ennen voi nättelyyn varata yksityiskäyntejä enintään neljälle henkilölle kerrallaan 20.5. alkaen. Jätettiin omat linopiirrokseni ja lino/pastellit Iittalan näyttelytilan ulko-oven taakse välttäen fyysistä kontaktia, ja sieltä Kira siirsi teokset sisälle puukouluun. Aiemmin on töitä viedessä nähnyt jo muiden taiteilijoiden tuomia teoksia, mutta nyt se ei onnistunut. Toivotaan, että pääsee näkemään valmiin näyttelyn kesällä.

The traditional Naïve Art exhibition in Iittala will soon start to be erected. The exhibition will be opened 4th of June if only the corona situation allows it. Before that there will be a possibility to reserve private viewings from 20th of May to max. four people at a time. We took my linocuts and linocut/pastels outside the door of the exhibition venue avoiding any physical contact, and Kira then took them inside the old school building. Earlier when taking works to the exhibition there has been a possibility to see other works already in the place, but now it didn´t work. Let´s hope that we can see the final exhibition next summer.

PISPALA 14.20 - Ylös. ylös! / PISPALA AT 2.20 PM - Upward, Upward!

Kolmas versio kuumailmapallosta Pispalan talojen yllä on "Pispala klo 14.20 - Ylös, ylös!" Linopiirroksen ilmapallo on väritetty käsin. Alaosassa on taloja, pitsiverhot ja portaat, joiden kyltissä lukee: Ei talvikunnossapitoa. Tuntuu kuin rappuja nousemalla voisi saman tien leijailla taivaalle kuumailmapallolla.

The third version  of a hot air balloon over Pispala houses is called "Pispala at 2.20 pm - Upward, Upward! The balloon in the picture is hand coloured. In the bottom part there are houses, lace curtains, and steps. By the steps there is a sign saying: No maintenance in winter. It feels like getting up the steps you could glide straight  away into the sky with the hot air balloon.

Jo jonkun aikaa on ollut mielessä tehdä "Pispala-taloja ja järvi" -sarjan linopiirroksista sellaiset versiot, joissa on yläosassa kuumailmapallo ja alaosassa vuorollaan jokainen viidestä eri vaihtoehdosta. Yksi versio on jo tehty aiemmin: "Pispala klo 14.15 - Maassa ja ilmassa". Siinä kuumailmapallon alla on taloja ja Vespa. Tässä uudessa versiossa on kuumailmapallon lisäksi ruohikossa makaava kissa. Nimeksi työlle tuli mutkikkaan nimeämiskäytäntöni mukaan: "Pispala klo 14.10 - Kissanpäivät". Kuumailmapallo on väritetty käsin . Tämä versio on menossa Naivistit Iittalassa -taidelainaamoon tai aulashoppiin.

I have already some time wanted to print from my series on linocuts of Pispala houses and a lake such versions where there are the hot air balloon at the top and under it all the five bottom parts alternately. One of these versions has been made earlier: "Pispala at 2.15 pm - On the Ground and in the Air". In this version there is the hot air balloon at the top and under it houses and a Vespa. In this new version there is a cat lying on the grass undet the hot air balloon. I call this picture after my rather complicated naming practice: "Pispala at 2.10 pm - Cat Days". The hot air balloon is coloured by hand. This version is going to be at the Naïve Artists in Iittala exhibition - either for the art lending service or lobby shop.

Ihmiset ovat eristäytyneinä kotonaan ja ehkä jotkut valtaa saamattomuuden ja liikkumattomuuden tila. Samaan tilaan tuntuvat vaipuneen kaikki naisen 11 kissaa. Asiaa auttanee takassa loimuava lämmittävä tuli. Kortin takana on pieni sarjakuva Devil Catistä, joka saa jääkaapin oven auki. This card by Scottish Adrian Keefe depicts in my mind finely the situation of coronavirus pandemic. People are isolated at home, and perhaps some of them are overpowered by the state of inaccessibility and immobility. All the eleven cats of the woman seem to be at the same state. Warming flames in the fireplace might be helping the situation. At the back of the card there is a small cartoon about Devil Cat who succeeds opening the door of the fridge. IITTALAN KESÄ 2020 / SUMMER IN IITTALA 2020

Naivistit Iittalassa kesänäyttely 2020 aiotaan pystyttää suunnitelmien mukaan. Veinkin jo joukon linopiirroksia kehystettäväksi. Jos koronapandemian tilanne tilanne sallii niin näyttely aukeaa yleisölle 4.6.2020. Sitä ennen 20.5. alkaen näyttelyyn voi varata enintään neljän henkilön yksityisaikoja. Aika jännittävää nähdä, miten naivistinen kesä etenee näinä poikkeusaikoina.

Naïve Artists in Iittala summer exhibition 2020 is coming along as planned. So I already took a few of my linocuts for framing. If this current situation with corona pandemic allows, the exhibition will open 4th of June, 2020. Before that there will be a possibility to book private times for the exhibition for max four persons. It´s really exciting to see how this Naïve Art summer will proceed in these exceptional times.

HAU! PIENI VIHAINEN KOIRA / SMALL ANGRY DOG

Joku aika sitten näin Instagramissa yhden kaverini sivulla hauskan kuvan koirasta. En tunne rotua, mutta joku pienikokoinen koira tämä oli. Koiran suuret silmät kiilsivät ja naama oli täynnä ryppyjä. Mahtoiko koira oikeastaan olla edes niin vihainen kuin miltä näytti. Ehkä se halusi vain leikkiä. Kuvan oli ottanut @tiagolopo Brasiliassa. Onneksi hän antoi luvan käyttää kuvaansa inspiraationa! Nyt koira on pieni linopiirros, 15 x 10 cm.

Some time ago I saw a funny photograph of a dog on a page of my Instagram friend. I don't know the breed of this dog, but it must be some kind of a very small dog. The huge eyes of the dog were glistening and the face was full of wrinkles. Was the dog really so angry that it looked like to be. Perhaps it only wanted to play. The photo was taken by @tiagolopo from Brasil. Lucky for me he gave me a permission to use this photo as inspiration. Now the dog is a small linocut, 15 x 10 cm.

Kaksi kissanpoikaa poseeraa autiossa maisemassa. Toinen on sinivalkoisessa kiinalaisessa posliinikulhossa. Nämä kissat eivät ole mitään iloisia ja riehakkaita, vaikka ovatkin söpöjä. Tämän kuvan tekijäksi mainitaan vain B.B. 1800-luvulta. Tämä voisi olla ns. suklaarasiakuva ellei tunnelmassa olisi jotain surullista. Tähän corona-pandemian aikaan ihan osuva kuva.

Two kittens are posing in a deserted landscape. The other one is in a blue and white China bowl. These kittens are no happy, playful ones, even though they are cute. B.B. from the 19th century is mentioned as a maker of this picture. This might be a so called chocolate box picture if the atmosphere would not be somewhat sad. A fitting image for this corona pandemic era.

"Harakat Pispalan yllä" -linopiirros ja pastellitaivaineen on valmis. Viimeisenä vedostin keltaisen kuun ja lintuparven - kaikki linopiirroksia. Tästä tulikin aika dramaattinen, tumma ja punainen. Vaikuttavatko taiteen tekoon jo jatkuvat uhkaavat uutiset konoviruksen leviämisestä? Kuva on iso: 70 x 40 cm. Tämä työ on varmaan menossa ensi kesän Naivistit Iittalassa - näyttelyyn jos se järjestetään. Ainakin taidelainaamoa ja verkkokauppaa suunnitellaan. Katsotaan, mitä tulee tapahtumaan.

"Magpies over Pispala" - linocut and pastel sky is now ready. Finally I printed the yellow moon and a flock of birds - they are all linocuts. This work seems to be quite dramatic, dark and red. Are the constant threatening news of the spreading of the coronavirus affect already my making of art? The picture is large: 70 x 40 cm. This work will be going to the Naïve Artists in Iittala exhibition next summer, if the exhibition will be open. At least there are plans for a lending service for art and virtual exhibition/shop. Let´s see what will happen.

HARAKAT - jatkoa / MAGPIES - Continuing

Pastellitaivas Pispalan yllä on aika sininen, pilvissä on vielä punaisen auringonlaskun pinkkiä kajastusta. Kuu on jo noussut taivaalle. Lintuparvi harakoineen on tulossa taivaalle viuhkamaisena niin, että se kapenee kuvan keskellä.

The pastel sky over Pispala in quite blue, there is still pink glow in the clouds after a red sunset. The moon is already in the sky. A flock of birds with magpies is going to be in sky as a fan so that it is narrowing in the middle.

HARAKAT PISPALAN YLLÄ - aloitusta / MAGPIES OVER PISPALA - Beginning

Vedostin linopiirroksen sunnuntai-aamusta Pispalassa isohkon paperin alareunaan. Aion tehdä pastellitaivaan kuvan yläpuolelle. Tästä vain on tulossa suurempi kuin aiemmin tekemäni vastaavat linopiirros/pastellikuvat. Kuvan koko tulee olemaan 70 x 40 cm. Aloitin taivaan tekemällä tumman punaisen auringonalskun Pispalan harjun ylle. Taivaalle on tulossa harakoita. Jännittävää!

I printed my linocut of a Sunday morning in Pispala at the bottom of quite a big paper. I´m planning to make a pastel sky at the top part of the paper. This one will be bigger than the linocut & pastel ones I have made before. The size of the picture will be 70 x 40 cm. I started making a dark red sunset over the Pispala ridge. There will be magpies in the sky. This is exiting!
