PISPALAN HAULITORNEJA ART PISPALASSA / PISPLA SHOT TOWERS AT ART PISPALA

 

Oli aika vaihtaa työt oven vieressä seinälläni Art Pispala-kehystämö/galleriassa. Nyt tässä ovenpielessä on kaksi linopiirrosta Pispalan haulitornista. Toiseen on lisätty pehmeillä pastelleilla lumisadetta. Toisen taivas on tumma sininen, keltainen kajo kuu näkyvät taivaanrannassa. Tämä on hieno paikka pitää pari työtä esillä, sillä ne näkee ikkunastakin ohi kulkiessaan.

It was time to change works on my wall by the door at Art Pispala framing shop/gallery. Now by the door are two my linocuts of Pispala shot tower. The other on I have added snowflakes with soft pastels. The sky in the other linocut is dark blue, there is yellow and sundown and moon at the horizon. This is a really fine place to keep art on show, because you can see inside even through the window walking by. 

JOULUKORTTEJA / CHRISTMAS CARDS

 

Vaikka vielä tuntuu melkein kesältä, joulu lähestyy! Teetin kolmesta uudesta linopiirroksesta joulukortit: tumman ja vaaleansiniset "Norjalaiset villapaidat" ja "Kissa ikkunalla" odottamassa joulua. Joitakin vanhempiakin joulukortteja on vielä varastossa. Laitankin lähiaikoina Etsy-kauppaani jo pari satsia joulukortteja, 6 korttia 10 eurolla. Koskaan ei voi olla liian aikaisin!

Although it still feels almost like summer, Christmas is getting near! I made Christmas cards from three of new linocuts: dark and light blue "Norwegian sweater" and "Cat In the Window" waiting for Christmas. Some of older Christmas cards are still available. I will add soon these Christmas card to my Etsy shop, six cards for 10 euros. It can never be too early!

Kissakortti: 432 / Cat Card: 432

Englantilainen Susan Herbert (s. 1945) on maalannut pitkän sarjan kissakuvia, joissa mallina on joku maailmantaiteen suurteos. Nyt kohteena on Rafaelin eli Raffaellon 1500-luvulla maalaama fresko "Galatean voittokulku". Alkuperäisen kuvan tyyli on mahtipontinen ja tässä kissakortissa se näkyy siinä, että kaikki kissat ovat hyvin vakavia nuolilla tähtäävistä kerubeista alkaen.Toisiinsa kietoutuvat kissat näyttävät hiukan vaivautuneilta. Vauhti ja liikkeet on kuvaan saatu mukaan.

English Susan Herbert (b. 1945) has painted a long series of cat pictures where the role models have been masterpieces of world art. Now the target is Raphael´s mural "The Triumph of Galatea" from the 1500´s. The style of the original work is flamboyant, and in this cat card it means that all the cat look very serious beginning with the little cherubs pointing with their arrows. The hugging or interlaced cats seem a bit uncomfortable. The speed and movements are captured in the picture. 

UNOHDAN KAIKEN JOUTAVAN / I FORGET ALL TRIVIAL THINGS

Linopiirros  kahdesta kissasta pispalalaisen talon pihalla on nyt vedostettu, 30 x 40 cm Tähän kuvaan tuli hurja määrä yksityiskohtia, seinälautoja, ikkunoita, kiviä, kasveja, rappuja, vettä ja kissat, toinen raidallinen ja toinen pilkullinen. Lempimateriaalini japanilainen vinyyli melkein houkuttelee tekemään  yksityiskohtia kunhan muistaa välillä teroittaa kaivertimen terän, tietenkin lempityöväline on Pfeilin terä. Vedostin nyt kuvan mustavalkoisena, mutta aikomus olisi kokeilla jotain väriä, punaruskea, sininen, saa nähdä. Tällekin kuvalle valitsin nimen Juice Leskisen lyriikasta: "Unohdan kaiken joutavan" kappaleesta Yölento.

The linocut of two cats on the yard of a Pispala house is now printed, 30 x 40 cm. There appeared a staggering amount of details in this picture, wall boards, windows, stones, plants, stairs, water and the cats, the other one is striped the other one spotted. My favorite material Japanese vinyl almost temps to make details as long as you remember to sharpen the blades occasionally, of course my favorite tool is a Pfeil blade. I pulled the picture now black and white, but my aim is to try a colour, reddish brown, blue, let´s see. I selected a name also for this picture from Juice Leskinen´s lyrics: ”I Forget All Trivial Things” from the song Night Flight. 

KISSAT PIHALLA / CATS ON THE YARD

 

Viime kesänä jo aloittelin tätä 30 x 40 cm linopiirrosta japanilaisella vinyylillä. Nyt syksyn tuulessa muistelen kaiholla lempipaikkaani, kesämökin parveketta, jolla kaivertelin tätä kuvaa. Sitten homma jäi sivuun joksikin aikaa ja nyt on aikomus kaivertaa viimeiset kohdat. Mitähän tähän kuvaan oikein tulee? Ainakin kaksi kissaa ja Pispalan talo tai taloja.

I started this linocut last summer, 30 x 40 cm on Japanese vinyl. Now in these autumnal winds I´m remembering in longing my favorite place, the balcony at the summer cottage where I used to carve this picture. Then this work was put aside for a while and now I´m planning carving the final cuts. What ever will be in this picture? At least two cats and some Pispala house or houses.

KALENTERI 2022 / CALENDAR 2022

 Painosta tuli jo ensi vuoden 2022 kalenteri. Tässäkin on perinteen mukaiset suomalaiset sananlaskut, jotka valitsi jälleen mieheni Timo. Ja 12 kuvaa ovat linopiirroksistani: kissoja, koiriakin ja Pispalaa. Kalenterin koko on avattuna A3. Next year´s 2022 calendar came already from the press. There are Finnish proverbs (in Finnish) also in this calendar according to tradition, selected by my husband Timo. Tämän kissakortin kuva on amerikkalaisen Tony Mendozan sarjasta Ernie. Tässä mustavalkoinen Ernie katsoo kauhistuneena tai uteliaana kun mustavalkoinen valokuva koirasta ilmestyy kehitysnesteessä paperille. Koira tuntuu katsovan suoran Ernietä. Kuva on vuodelta 1980, jolloin vielä oli vallalla suuntaus, jossa korostettiin mustia ja tummia sävyjä valokuvissa.

The photograph is this cat card is by American Tony Mendoza from his series Ernie. Here is the black and white cat Ernie is watching terrified or curious when a photograph of a dog is appearing on the paper in the tray of development fluid. The dog seems to look straight at Ernie. The photo is taken 1980 when there still was prevailing a tendency of highlighting black and dark hues in a photograph.

LINTUPARVI PINKILLÄ TAIVAALLA / FLOCK OF BIRDS IN THE PINK SKY

 Linopiirrokset linnuista on nyt vedostettu tähän 70 x 40 cm kokoiseen sekatekniikkatyöhön. Taivas on pastellipiirros ja kuvan alaosa Pispalan pihapiiristä, kuu ja linnut linopiirroksia. Tähän linopastellien sarjaan ei tunnu loppua näkyvän. Aina vaan keksin jonkun uuden piirteen, jota haluan kokeilla. Tässä pinkki ja pastellisävyt taivaalla ovat hiukan aiemmista sarjan töistä poikkeavat. Tämäkin kuva sai nimensä Juicen lyriikasta: "Yöstä aamuun jatkuu tie" (kappaleesta Talo lehmusten alla).

Linocuts of birds are now printed on this 70 x 40 cm sized mixed media work. The sky is a pastel drawing and the bottom part of the picture, moon and birds are linocuts. There seems to be no end for this series of lincut & pastels. I just happen to dream up some new feature, which I want try try out. In this picture the pink and pastel hues in the sky are a bit different than in the earlier works in this series. This work got also its name from Juice`s lyrics: "The Road Goes On From  Night to Morning" .

LINTUJA PINKILLE TAIVAALLE / BIRDS IN THE PINK SKY

 Linnut sopivat sinertävän pinkille taivaalle, ainakin omasta mielestäni. Nyt alkaa pastellitaivaalle hahmottua parvi linopiirroslintuja. Pitää vaan muistaa niitä mallatessa kääntää linot nurinpäin eli siten kuin ne vedostetaan. Mukaan tähän lintuparveen pääsevät uusimmatkin yksilöt, pääskynenkin.

Birds are fit for a bluish pink sky, at least to my mind. Now a flock of linocut birds start to form in the pastel sky. I just have to remember modelling them to flip the linos upside down ie. the same side as they are when I´m printing them. A few newest ones are getting along with this flock of birds,like a swallow.

PINKKI TAIVAS / PINK SKY

 Jos on taivaalla pinkki kuu, pitäähän taivaankin olla pinkki! Ainakin osaksi. Pispala-talon ylle levittäytyi pehmeillä pastelliväreillä aika pastelli ja makeanvärinen taivas, sinertävää, vaaleanpunaista ja taivaanrannassa harmaata utua. Onkohan liian romanttista?

If there is a pink moon in the sky, also the sky must be pink! At least some of the sky. Over a Pispala house there spread with soft pastel colours quite pastel and sweet coloured sky, bluish , pink and hazy gray at the horizon. Might this be too romantic?

PINKKI KUU / PINK MOON

Nyt vedostin pinkin kuun (linopiirroksen) Pispalan taivaalle. Alaosassa on myös linopiirros Pispalan talosta ja pihasta kaikenlaisine härpäkkeineen, kukkoineen, kanoineen, koirineen ja kissoineen. Portaat vasemmalla johtavat suoraan järvelle, ehkä Näsijärvelle. Seuraavaksi miettimään taivasta tähän isomman kokoiseen sarjaani pastellitaivaista, 70 x 40 cm.

Now I pulled a pink moon (linocut) in the sky over Pispala. At the bottom there is also a linocut of a house in Pispala and a yard full of all kind of paraphernalia, a rooster, hen, dog and cat. The stairs on the left are descending straight to a lake, possibly to Näsijärvi. Next I will think about the sky for this pastel sky works  to my larger series of lino & pastels, 70 x 40 cm.

 Sadolin sai alkunsa Tanskassa kun Jacob Holmblad perusti väritehtaan vuonna 1777. Sittemmin Sadolin-tuotemerkki on levinnyt maailmanlaajuiseksi maalibrändiksi. Tämä on kortti on Erik Stockmarrin (1905-19639 juliste vuodelta 1950. Juliste on suunnattu englanninkielisille markkinoille. Kuvassa viisi eriväristä kissaa marssii jonossa edustaen Sadolinin erilaisia värivaihtoehtoja. Nähtävästi kissat on maalattu Sadolin-maalilla ja pensselillä, jotka myös näkyvät kuvassa.

Sadolin colour or dye factory was founded in Denmark by Jacob Holmblad in 1777. Since that Sadolin trademark has spread to a world famous paint brand. This card is a poster painted by Erik Stockmarr (1905-1963) in 1950. The poster was made for English speaking market. There are five cats in the picture marching in line, each one representing different colour options of Sadolin. Apparently the cats have been painted with Sadolin paint and brush, which are seen also in the picture.

KORRORANTA / BUG SHORE

 Linopiirrokset hyönteisistä ovat nyt löytäneet paikkansa pastellitaivaalla. Korrorantaan mahtui kaikkiaan laskujeni mukaan 34 hyönteistä. Mukana ovat uusimmatkin korrot, esimerkiksi pitkäviiksinen kuoriainen, ehkä joku jäärä tai sarvijaakko. Tämä työ on pienempää sarjaani lino/pastelleja, 50 x 30 cm. Eikä varmasti ole viimeinen näitä hyönteiskuvia, on niitä niin hauska tehdä! Tämä kuva on jo kehystetty ja matkalla tilaajalleen.

Linocuts of insects or bugs have now found their places in the pastel sky. According my calculations there are all together 34 insects on this bug beach. Included are also my newest bugs, for example the one with long tentacles, maybe some kind of Cerambycidae. This work is one of my smaller series of linocut & pastels, 50 x 30 cm. And this surely is not the last of these insects pictures, so fun to make! This work is already framed and on its way to a new home.

KORRORANTA JA TAIVAS / KORRORANTA AND THE SKY

Taivas ilmestyi nyt pastellipiirroksena linopiirroksiin rannasta ja kuusta. Hiukan jo mallinnan pieniä linopiirroksia hyönteisistä eli korroista taivaalle. Miten monta saan niitä kuvaan mahtumaan?

The sky appeared now as a pastel drawing beside the linocuts of a shore and moon. I started to place small linocuts of insects or bugs in the sky. How many of them can I fit in the picture?

 

KORRORANTA / BUG SHORE

 

Aloittelen uutta pienemmän sarjan sekatekniikkatyötä, jossa tulee olemaan tosi paljon linopiirroksia ja pastellitaivas. Pohjana on linopiirros järven rannasta, mielessäni on varmaan Pyhäjärven ranta Pyynikiltä katsoen. Taivaalle piti saada oranssi iso kuu, linopiirros sekin. Yksi erikoisuus on tuo soutaja, jonka lisäsin alaosan linon tyhjään kohtaan yhdestä isommasta linopiirroksesta. Siinä piti alkujaan olla kuun heijastus järven pinnassa, mutta muutinkin mieleni. Taivas tulee olemaan täynnä hyönteisiä, korroja.

I am starting a new mixed media work for my smaller series, and in this work there will be really a lot of linocuts and a pastel sky. First there is a linocut at the bottom of a shore of a lake, in my mind this is Pyhäjärvi lake seen from Pyynikki ridge. There must be an orange moon in the sky, also a linocut. One small specialty is that rower, which I added into an empty space at the bottom part from an other linocut. There was originally supposed to be a reflection of the moonshine on the surface of the lake, but I changed my mind.The sky will be full of insects, bugs.

Tätä kuvaa voisi luulla valokuvaksi, mutta kun tarkemmin katsoo se on piirros. Tyylihän on  nykyisin suosittu hyperrealismi ja tekijä on hollantilainen kuvittaja Francien van Westering (s. 1951). Kissan jokainen karva on piirretty erikseen ja silmät ne vasta ovatkin  kuin elävät. Tämä ei ole mikään iloinen kissa, vaan ilme on hiukan varautunut ja vakava.

You could think first that this picture is a photograph, but when you look at it more closely you see that it is a drawing. This style is now very popular hyperrealism and the artist is  Dutch illustrator Francien van Westering (b. 1951). Every hair of the cat has been drawn separately, and the eyes - they are really like living. This is not your happy cat. Her expression is a bit reserved and serious.

IITTALAN TAIDELAINAAMOON / TO THE ART LOAN SERVICE OF IITTALA

Olin juuri pakkaamassa paria työtä autoon kun paikalle osui naapurini Matti 50 vuotta vanhalla Ford-traktorillaan. Mikä upea kulkuväline se onkaan! Tässä on  nyt kuva tuosta kohtaamisesta. Nämä kaksi linopiirrosta ovat nyt matkalla  Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttelyn taidelainaamoon. Isompi taulu on kahdeksanosainen linopiirros Pispalan rinteestä, ja se on vedostettu täällä kesämökillä käyttäen apuna puutarhajyrää. Kuvan koko on 60 x 80 cm. Pienempi on lino ja pastellipiirros, myöskin Pispalasta aj siinä parvi lintuja lentää kuun ohi.

I was packing two art works into the car when Matti my neighbor drove there in his 50 years old Ford tractor. What a fine vehicle that is! Here is a photo of the meeting. These two linocuts are going now to the art loan service at the Naïve Artists in Iittala exhibition. The bigger one is eight-part linocut of the Pispala ridge, printed here at the cottage with the aid of a garden roller. The picture is measured 60 x 80 cm. The smaller (50 x 30 cm) one is a linocut & pastel sky, also from Pispala with a flock of birds flying over a moon.

MIKSI SULLE LUPAISIN TAIVAALTA KUUN? / WHY WOULD I PROMISE YOU THE MOON FROM THE SKY?

 Juice saa taas lainata nimen tälle sekatekniikkatyölle: "Miksi sulle lupaisin taivaalta kuun?", tämä on kappaleesta Lahti. Alaosan Pisplan pihapiiri on linopiirros, samoin kelmeän sininen kuu ja kissat. Käytin tässä työssä nyt kahta hiukan isompaa kissalinoa, ja siksi työkin on aika iso: 70 x 40 cm. Taivas on pastellipiirros ja tavoittelin siniseen kuuhun sopivaa hiukan kelmeän vaaleaa pilvitaivasta. Taidan teettää tästä kuvasta keittiöpyyhkeitä syksyn ja talven näyttelyihin.

Juice will be again lending a name for this mixed media work: "Why Would I Promise You the Moon From the Sky?", this line is from a song Lahti. A Pispala yard at the bottom is aa linocut, ans so are the pale blue moon. I used in this work now two a bit bigger cat linos, and that´s why the work is quite large: 70 x 40 cm. The sky is a pastel drawing and I was aiming at a bit pale light cloudy sky suitable for the blue moon. I think I will order tea towels from this picture for Autumn and Winter exhibitions.

PASTELLITAIVAS KISSOILLE / PASTEL SKY FOR CATS

 Sekatekniikkatyöhöni linokissoista pastellitaivaalla on nyt ilmestynyt taivas. Sinisen kuun ympärille tuli sinertävä, harmahtava taivas, jossa on myös pinkkiä, violettia ja valkoista pilvien reunoissa. Taivaanranta on yllättävän keltainen. Jätin kissoille koloja taivaalle, ja vedostan kissojen linopiirrokset myöhemmin paikoilleen.

A sky has now appeared on my mixed media work of linocats in the sky. The moon is blue so the sky around it is also bluish, grayish, purple with a little pink and white on borders of clouds. The horizon is surprisingly yellow. I left holes for the cats in the sky, and I will print the linocuts of cats later on their spots.

KISSAT TAIVAALLA - aloitusta / CATS IN THE SKY - beginning

 Syksyn tuntua on jo ilmassa, joten vähitellen voi siirtyä sisätiloihin tekemään vaikka sekatekniikkatyötä kun ulkona sataa ja ukkostaa. Kesämökin työhuone on pieni ja pimeä, mutta kun kohdevaloja on paljon, onnistuu pastellinkin kanssa puuhailu. Aloitan isoa 70 x 40 cm linopiirrosten ja pastellitaivaan yhdistelyä. Alaosassa on linopiirros Pispalan pihamaasta ja taivaalla sininen kuu, myös linopiirros. Taivaalla tulee olemaan parvi lentäviä kissoja, nekin linopiirroksia. Pitää vain muistaa kokeilla, miten päin linot oikein painetaan eli peilikuvina.

There is already a feeling of the Autumn in the air, so I can move myself inside to make for example a mixed media work when it´s raining and thundering outside. My work room at the cottage is small, but when there is enough electric light, even tinkering with pastels is ok. I`m starting a large 70 x 40 cm combination of pastel drawing and linocuts. At the bottom there is a linocut of a Pispala yard and there is a blue moon  in the sky, linocut also. In the sky there will also be a flock of flying cats, also linocuts. You just have to remember, that the linos are printed as mirror images.
