Monoprinting is a simple way of making graphics without any printing press. The colour is spread on a piece of glass or plastic (I used a piece of thick plastic which was in a poster frame instead of glass), a paper is pressed on and then you just try to transfer the colour or at least some of it onto the paper. I have made some monoprint backgrounds for linocuts. Now I planned to make the background, quite large cat and some flowers on the fur of the cat, and finally print a few feather linocuts on the sky. I made a stencil of plastic film for the cat and covered first the place of the cat when printing the background, and then I covered the background when I applied colour for the cat. Quite a mess I managed to get, but that is an essential part of making monoprints. I made five versions adding always more colour on the plastic sheet between layouts. The cats came out looking like sad weaklings! Should I surrender and throw these straight into the trash? Let's see...
