CHRISTIAN MARCLAY : THE CLOCK

Muutaman päivän aikana Lontoossa näkee aika paljon taidetta, ja välillä keskittyminen on vaikeaa. Mutta Christian Marclayn installaatio tai video The Clock Tate Modernissa sai paikoilleen parin tunnin ajaksi. Tämä 24 tunnin video noudattaa sekunnilleen kuluvaa kellonaikaa. Osuimme paikalle keskipäivällä ja valkokankaalla näkyi kuin näkyikin pätkä High Noon-elokuvasta. The Clock on koottu pienistä filminpätkistä, joissa näkyy aika tai kello. Marclay on koonnut tuhannet filminpätkät kiehtovaksi kokonaisuudeksi, joka on melkein hypnoottinen. Joku katsoo kelloa, joka voi olla ranteessa, digitaalisena yöpöydällä, seinäkellona tai ison tornin kellona. Sitten jotain tapahtuu, odotetaan tai ajetaan takaa jotain, ihmiset kulkevat ovista ja astuvat ihan uuteen paikkaan tai aikakauteen, ja kuitenkin filmissä säilyy eräänlainen juoni tai jatkuvuus. Yksi pätkä Aki Kaurismäen filmistäkin vilahti mukana. Tästä lähtien takuulla muistan The Clockin aina kun katson rannekelloani tai kun joku elokuvassa katsoo kelloaan,

There is quite a lot of art to be seen in London in a few days, and from time to time it's hard to concentrate. But Chistian Marclay's installation or video The Clock at Tate Modern kept us in place for about two hours. This 24 hours long video follows the passing time for a second. We happened to be present at noon, and on the screen there was a clip of the film High Noon. The Clock was compiled with short pieces of film, where there was seen a clock or some kind of timepiece. Marclay has united these thousands of pieces of film as a fascinating wholeness, which is almost hypnotic. Someone is watching at the clock, which can be on the wrist, digital clock on the bedside table, on the wall or on the high tower. And then something happens, people are waiting or chased after, they are opening doors and entering in another time or place, and still some kind of narrative or continuity is maintaining. There was even s short piece from Aki Kaurismäki's film. I´m sure I always remember The Clock when I watch my wristwatch or somebody in a movie watches his/her clock.
