Visiting the Culture House Laikku I saw by chance on the lobby of the third floor an exhibition of Russian speaking artists in Pirkanmaa. Other paintings were traditional landscapes and flowers but then I bumped into four cat-themed graphics, perhaps colour etchings by Elena Krushelnitskaja. One of them was a three-piece "The Story of a Cat", and other three were cats filling the entire surface of the paper. The cats had a soft stripy fur, cheerful expressions, and especially the paws with the nails were finely described. But those backgrounds and big fish - the surfaces were filling of patterns, small fish, lines of the waves and ornaments. The old Russian traditional folklore-typed embroidery came to my mind. In one of the pictures the cat is trying to hold on five kittens, and her expression is distressed. The cat who just ate a fish has a happy face and an embroidered napkin.
