Oli kyllä mielenkiintoinen projekti tehdä nämä viisi sekatekniikkatyötä kukkakuvioisesta kissasta. Ensimmäisessä vaiheessa vedostin taustat monoprinttinä A3-kokoiselle paperille peittämällä sapluunalla reunat ja kissan kohta. Seuraavaksi peitin sapluunalla taustan, ja tarkoitus oli vedostaa kissa harmaalla värillä ja ääriviivat sekä suut ja silmät tummemmalla. Tämä vaihe olikin täynnä yllätyksiä - väri tarttui mista sattui ja sattumalla oli suuri osuus lopputulokseen. En heittänyt kuvia roskiin, vaan jatkoin vedostamalla kukkia tai värillisiä kohtia kissan kukkahameeksi. Tein jopa pieniä kukan mallisia linopiirroksia, joita painoin värillisten kohtien päälle. Pastelliväreillä täydensin kohtia, joihin halusin enemmän väriä. Lopuksi vedostin taivaalle muutaman linopiirroksen sulista. Ehdottomasti jatkan kokeiluja monoprintin kanssa, yllätykset ja vahingot opettavat.

It was a really interesting project making these five mixed media works of flower patterned cat. In the first stage I printed the backgrounds as monoprints on A3-sized paper covering with a stencil the borders and the place of the cat. Then I covered with a stencil the background, and my intention was to print the cat with some grey colour and both the outlines and the mouths and eyes with some darker colour. This stage was full of surprises - the colour adhered in a haphazard way and the coincidences played a major roll with the end result. I did´t throw the pictures into the bin, I just continued printing flowers or small dots of colour as a flower skirt of the cat. I even carved small flower-shaped linocuts, which I pressed on the coloured dots. I filled in with pastel the places I wanted to have more colour. Finally i pulled a few linocuts of feathers on the sky. Definitely I will continue experimenting with monoprints, surprises and accidents are educational.
