Once again there is an interesting exhibition at Sara Hildèn Art Museum in Tampere: Robert Longo's (b. 1953) chalk drawings. These are huge, tuneful, and seen form a distance they look like exact copies of photographs. You can still figure out from a film at the exhibition, that Longo get the ideas and subjects to his drawing from the internet or photographs, as if picking pictures that are meaningful and topical to him. Typically to many artists he works in series. The subjects are quite masculine: guns, athletes, soldiers, and surfing waves.I liked best the series of drawings after x-rayed works of old masters (Longo had studied restoration) and awesome panoramas of nature (rock mountains and forests).
