BILL JACKLIN - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

Lontoon Royal Academy of Artsissa on aina mielenkiintoisia grafiikan näyttelyitä. Nyt siellä oli Bill Jacklinin (s. 1943) metalligrafiikkaa, linoleikkauksia, monotypioita ja piirroksia. Jacklin on syntynyt Lontoossa ja muuttanut New Yorkiin vuonna 1985. Varhaisemmat työt kuvaavat Lontoon katunäkymiä ja uudemmat sitten vastaavasti New Yorkia. Välissä on kauniita kuvia myös Venetsiasta. Jacklinille näyttää olevan tyypillistä yhden aiheen työstäminen eri tekniikoilla ja hiukan poikkeavina versioina - muunnoksia on mielenkiintoista vertailla. Erityisen kiinnostavia olivat hänen monotypiansa, joiden tekemistä itsekin olen suunnitellut. Sormet melkein syyhysivät kun katselin hänen lumihiutaleiden tai sadepisaroiden täyttämiä taivas- ja vesikuviaan. Hän saa  ihanat pehmeät pisarat aikaan joko tärpätillä tai öljyllä - tätä on pakko itsekin kokeilla!

There are always interesting graphics exhibitions in The Royal Academy of Arts. Now there was Bill Jacklin's (b. 1943) metal graphics, linocuts, monotypes and drawings. Jacklin was born in London but moved to New York in 1985. The earlier works depict a lot of London street scenes, and the newer respectively New York. In between there are beautiful scenes also from Venice. It seems to be typical for Jacklin to work with the same subject or idea in different techniques and versions - it is really interesting to compare these variations. His monotypes or monoprints were exceptionally interesting, because I have also planned to print some monotypes. My fingers were itching when I watched his snow flakes or rain drops in his sky or water pictures. He creates his wonderfully soft drops either with oil or turpentine - this I have to test myself!
