KASSIKISSA / CAT IN A BAG

Kissat haluavat aina mennä tyhjiin paperikasseihin jos sellaisen näkevät. Kassi rapisee mukavasti ja siellä on hyvin piilossa. Tämä linopiirros kassikissasta on pieni, 10 x 15 cm. Mustavalkoisena kassi ei kunnolla erottunut, joten kassi on käsin väritetty.

Cats always want to get inside empty paper bags if they see one. The bag is rustling comfortably, and the cat is nicely hidden. This linocut of a cat in a bag is small, 15 x 10 cm. Black and white bag did not separate enough, so I coloured it by hand.

KAKSI UKONKORENTOA / TWO DRAGONFLIES

 

Monoprinttitaustat näille kahdelle linopiirrokselle ukonkorennoista ovat oikeastaan samat. Tummempi on ensimmäinen vedos ja vaaleampi ns. haamu. Pohjana on sama sinivihreä väri gelli-levyllä ja sen päällä väritetty iso kasvinlehti ja ukonkorennon mallinen sapluuna. Lino on vedostettu viimeisenä ja väritetty käsin. Pidän enemmän tuosta haamusta, vaikka siinä kasvinlehden malli ei olekaan ihan selkeä. Monoprinteissä tulos on joskus melkein yllätys!

Monoprint backgrounds for these two linocuts of dragonflies are really the same. The darker one is the first print and the lighter one is so called ghost print. The base is the sama blue green colour on Gelli plate, and a big plant leaf on top of that and a stencil shaped like a dragonfly upmost. The lino is printed last and coloured by hand. I actually like more that ghost print, even though the shape of plant leaf is not really clearly identified. With monoprints the results are sometimes almost surprises!

UKONKORENTO JA ISO LEHTI / DRAGONFLY & BIG LEAF

Joskus on vaikea päättää, kummasta oikeastaan pidän enemmän: ensimmäisestä monoprint-vedospohjasta vai ns. haamuvedoksesta. Nyt taidan pitää haamusta. Aloitin  uuden sarjan linopiirroksia monoprinttipohjalla, nyt ukonkorentoja. Ensimmäiset gellilevyn päällä vedostetut monoprinttipohjat ovat sinivihreät ison kasvinlehden päällä. Ensimmäinen pohja on tummempi ja toinen on sitten vedostettu levittämättä uutta väriä ns. haamuna. Linopiirrokset ukonkorennoista on vedostettu monoprintin päälle paikalle, johon estin värin sapluunan avulla. Siipiin on lisätty väriä käsin. Näiden korentokuvien koko on 20 x 20 cm.

It´s hard sometimes to decide which of them I thin k is better: the first monoprint background or so called ghost print. Now I think I like ghost more. I started a new series of linocuts on monoprint background, now dragonflies. The first monoprints printed on a gelli plate are blue and green on a big plant leaf. The first print is darker and the other one is then printed without spreading more colour ie as a ghost.  Linoprints of dragonflies are then printed on monoprints on empty places without colour created with a stencil. I added some colour on the wings by hand. These dargonfly pictures will be sized 20 x 20 cm.

Ruotsalainen kuvittaja Ingvor Holmqvist (s. 1938) on tehnyt satoja tunnelmallisia joulukortteja kuten tämän. Tässä kuvassa on jokseenkin kaikki, mitä vanhan ajan joulukortissa kuuluu ollakin: joulupukki, lahjareki, joululyhde, paljon lunta, valaistu kuusi, risuaita, potkukelkka, punatulkku, punaisia taloja koristeellisine ikkunoineen, joissa  hehkuvat lamppujen valot, tähtikirkas taivas ja kissa

I am still feeling Christmassy at the summer cottage, far from the pandemic world. Still, I wish you  all  a very Happy New Year 2021! Swedish illustrator  Ingvor Holmqvist  (b. 1938) has made hundreds of Christmas cards like this one. In this picture there are almost every possible thing there should be in a old time Christmas card: Santa Claus, a sledge full of presents, grains for birds, a lot of snow, an illuminated spruce tree, stick fence, kick sled, bullfinch, red houses with their decorative windows with glowing lamp light, starry night sky and a cat.

KORENTOJA TULOSSA / DRAGONFLIES IN PROGRESS

Kaivoin taas gelli-levyn esille ja aloitin sarjan sudenkorento-linopiirrosten taustojen tekoa monoprintteinä. Tämä on kivaa hommaa, sotkuista, värikästä ja yllättävää. Näistä kuvista on tulossa 20 x 20 cm kokoisia ja niissä on kussakin yksi sudenkorento. Käytän sapluunoita ja rajaukseen muovikehystä sekä erilaisia kasvinosia, lehtiä ja korsia kun ensin olen levittänyt värin gelli-levylle.

I took out again my gelli plate and started a new series of backgrounds for dragonfly linocuts as monoprints. This is fun business, messy, colourful and surprising. These pictures will be 20 x 20 cm, and there will be one dragonfly on each of them. I use stencils and a plastic frame for the bordering and different plant parts, leaves and straws when I have first spread some colour on t

he gelli plate.

INSTAGRAM - #bestnine2020

 Postailen kuvia linopiirroksieni työvaiheista ja muutakin Instagramiin ja seurailen samalla muiden linopiirrosten tekijöiden postauksia. Instagramista saa vuoden lopulla hauskan listauksen #bestnine2020 tai #topnine2020 -yhdistelmän omista vuoden aikana eniten tykätyistä postauksista. Mitä nyt voisin päätellä omasta tuloksestani? Ainakaan en oikein sovi tuohon IG:n neliönmalliseen formaattiin, en siis ole "square". Enkä myöskään tunnu olevan vielä valmis, sillä monet töistä ovat keskeneräisiä tai "vaiheessa"  eli  #wip. Tästäpä on ihan mukava jatkaa kokeiluja linopiirrosten ja taiteen parissa myös vuonna 2021, toivottavasti jo koronarokotteenkin saaneena. Instagramissa olen @linokissa.

I post pictures of my efforts with linocuts and other chores in Instagram, and I follow at the same time postings by other linocutters. You can get a fun combination list of your #bestnine2020 or #topnine2020 postings that have been your most liked in Instagram. What can I now deduce from my own result? At least I seem not to be fitting that rectangular format of Instagram, so I´m not "square". And I seem not to be ready yet, because many of my best liked works are in an unfinished state or works in progress or process ie #wip. This if a good place to continue experiments with linocuts and other arts also in the year 2021, hopefully also vaccinated. I´m in Instagram as @linokissa.

Iloista joulunaikaa! Tässä kortissa on iloinen tunnelma. Kissa lahjapakettinsa kanssa on kuusen juurella punaisella sydämenmallisella matolla. Joulutähtenä keikkuu hiiri ja heiluttaa sydämenmallista kuusenkoristetta. Hauskanmallisen kissan on piirtänyt graafikko Osmo Omenamäki (s. 1940). Kortissa on 1970-lukulainen selkeä ja graafinen ilme.

Happy Christmas time! There really is a cheerful feeling is this card. A cat with her  Christmas present is at the foot of a fir tree on a heart shaped carpet. A mouse is swinging as a Christmas star and waving with a heart shaped decoration. This fun cat was drawn by a graphic artist Osmo Omenamäki (b. 1940). There is a clear and  graphic look from the 1970s in this card.

KAUAN SITTEN EKSYIMME TÄHÄN TÄHTEEN / LONG AGO WE GOT LOST IN THIS STAR

Parvi linopiirroslintuja lentää kuun taakse Pispalan yllä. Taivas on pastellia, kuu ja alaosa sekä linnut linopiirroksia. Tämäkin kuva sai nimensä Juice Leskisen lyriikasta Tampereen aamu-kappaleesta: Kauan sitten eksyimme tähän tähteen. Kuvan koko on  isompaa sarjaani lino/pastellitöitä eli 70 x 40 cm.

A flock of linocut birds are flying behind the moon over Pispala. The sky is a pastel drawing, the moon, bottom part and birds are linocuts. Also this picture got its name after Juice Leskinen lyrics, now from the song Morning in Tampere: Long Ago We Got Lost in this Star. The size of this picture is from the larger series of lino & pastels ie. 70 x 40 cm.

Taivaalle ilmestyi lintuja, linopiirroksia - kuinkas muuten. Tämä lintuparvi lentääkin kuun takana. Yksi tiainen kuun yläosassa syöksyy päätä pahkaa kuun taakse, vain siivet ja pyrstö näkyvät.

Birds appeared in the sky - what else. Still, this flock of birds is flying behind the moon. One of the tits on the upper part of the moon is flying helter-skelter straight behind the moon, only its win gs and tail are visible.
