SAANA

Uuden jännittävän hankkeen aloitusta: ystäväni Ulla Hakulinen pyysi kuvittamaan satunsa Saanasta. Kyse on sadusta tai tarinasta, jossa Saana-niminen tyttö lähtee kotoaan nallensa kanssa hakemaan äitiään. Kuvitus on linopiirroksia - ei maailman nopein tapa tehdä kuvitusta, mutta kiinnostavaa. Sovimme, että kuvitus voisi olla aika yksinkertaista, vanhahtavaa ja jopa tummaa. Aloitin homman ensimmäisestä luvusta, jossa Saana nalleineen lähtee isänsä luota saappaanmallisesta talosta. Päätin, että kussakin kuvassa olisi joku yksityiskohta, jonka voisi värittää käsin. Saana kääntyy tässä tieltä katsomaan viimeisen kerran kotitaloaan, joka on kuin punainen saapas.

Beginning a new exciting project: my friend Ulla Hakulinen asked if I´d illustrate her fairy tale of Saana. This is a fairy tale or story where a girl called Saana is leaving with her home with a teddy bear to find her mother. The illustration will be linocuts - not the fastest method to make illustrations, but interesting. We agreed that the illustration might be quite simple, a bit old fashioned and even dark. I started with the task from the first chapter where Saana is leaving with her teddy bear from her father and a house shaped like a boot. I decided, that every picture would have one small detail, which could be hand coloured. Saana turns here from the road to look for the last time at her home, which is like a red boot.
