British Museum on aina ohjelmassa kun käyn Lontoossa. Erityisesti grafiikan näyttelyosasto (Prints and drawings, huone 90) on kiinnostava. Nyt siellä oli esillä Napoleonin ja Britannian suhdetta esittelevä grafiikan, lähinnä pilapiirrosten näyttely - en oikein innostanut. Mutta pienessä etuhuoneessa on aina muutama vaihtuva kiinnostava uusi työ. Nyt seinillä oli amerikkalaisen Jim Dinen (s. 1935) etsauksia. Viivat olivat hienoja, vierekkäin pensselitä ja alapään karvoitusta. Napoleonin takana oli myös mielenkiintoisia kuvioita Tyynenmeren kuorista tehdyissä vaatteissa. Ja tietenkin harhailin ihastelemassa Ancient Lives, New Discoveries-näyttelyn muumioita, joista oli saatu esiin uutta tietoa läpivalaisulla: huonoja hampaita lähinnä. Mutta sargofagit ovat säilyneet

hienosti, kulta kimaltelee ja kuviot ovat ajattomia. Ulkona kukkivat magnoliat,  eikä aikaa ollut lähteä Dulwich Gallerian kiehtovaan näyttelyyn Eric Raviloiusin vesivärimaalauksista. Onneksi tämä näyttely on auki 31. elokuuta asti, sinne voi siis vielä ehtiä kesän aikana.

The British Museum is always on the agenda when I am in London. Especially the graphic art section (Prints and drawings, room 90)  is interesting. Now there was an exhibition of Bonabarte and the British - I was not quite interested. But in the small room before graphics exhibition there is always some changing new graphic art. Now the walls were covered by American Jim Dine`s (b. 1935) etchings. The lines were fine, brushes and pubic hair side by side. Behind Napoleon there were interesting patterns on Pasific barkcloth clothing. And of course I wandered around the mummies in Ancient Lives, New Discoveries exhibition. Mummies were X-raid and they had found, mainly bad teeth. But the sarcophagus' have remained beautiful, gold glimmers and the patterns are timeless. Outside the magnolias were blooming, and there was not time enough to see the enchanting exhibition of Eric Raviloius' watercolours in Dulwitch Picture Gallery. Happily this exhibition is open till August 31th, still time to visit. during the summer.
