KISSAT RAPUILLA / CATS ON STAIRS

Viime vuonna tein linopiirroksen "Ylös alas", jossa kaksi kissaa kulkee rapuissa. Vedos tuntui liian tummalta. Linopiirroksessahan mustien ja valkoisten alueiden tasapaino ja vaihtelu on tärkeä juttu. Tässä työssä se ei toiminut. Siispä linoterä uudelleen käteen ja kaivertamaan lisää. Päätin kaivertaa toisen kissan taustan valkoiseksi. Ja nyt vedos toimii paremmin. Linopiirros on kahtena kappaleena, jotta voisin tehdä reunuksen ja keskiosan eri värisinä, ja sitä kokeilenkin seuraavaksi.

Last year I made a linocut called "Up Down" where two cats are walking on the stairs. The print seemed too dark. All we linocutters know that in lionocuts the balance and variations of the black and white areas is an important matter. In this work it did not function. So I took my lino cutter again in my hand and started to carve some more. I decided to carve the background of the other cat white. And now the linocut works better. This linocut is in two parts, so I could print the border and the middle part with different colour, and that is what I'm gonna try next.
