Legenda Dick Whittingtonin kissasta on kiehtova: Dick oli Lontooseen pettyneenä palaamassa kotiinsa maalle, kun hän Highgate Hillilllä kuuli kirkonkellojen äänessä viestin: "Palaa takaisin ja sinusta tulee Lontoon pormestari". Tarinan mukaan ennustus myös toteutui. Dickillä oli mukanaan ansiokas hiirikissansa, jolle on pystytetty patsas Highgate Hilliin. Kissa katsoo siinä selkänsä taakse Lontoon keskustaan. Nigella Bittlesonin maalauksessa hiukan nukkavierun oloinen musta kissa on Whittington-puistossa muistolaatan edessä. Kissan tuima katse kertoo päättäväisyydestä, sekin on palaamassa jonnekin - kotiinsa ehkä.

The legend of Dick Whittington´s cat is enchanting: Dick was returning home in the country, when he heard on Highgate Hill heard church bells telling: "Turn back and you will become the Mayor of London". The prophesy also came true after the story. Dick had with him his masterly mouse catching cat. There is even a statue on Highgate Hill of this cat, which is looking back over its back to the City of London. In Nigella Bittleson´s painting a little rugged black cat is in Whittington Garden in front of a memorial plague. The stern expression of the cat tells about determination, the cat is returning  - maybe to his home.
