SATUKUVITUKSIA HAIHARASSA / FAIRY-TALE ILLUSTRATIONS IN HAIHARA

Rudolf Koivu

Haiharan taidekeskus on parhaimmillaan aurinkoisena kesäpäivänä: vanhat rakennukset ja vehreä uinuva pihapiiri. Päärakennuksen satukuvitusnäyttely sopii hyvin ympäristöönsä. Uudemmat kuvitukset ovat hempeitä, pastellisia ja herttaisia - kuten Katri Kirkkopellon Molli-hirviö. Mutta vanhimmat mustavalkoiset Rudolf Koivun ja Tove Janssonin kuvitukset ovat aika pelottavia. Koivun kuvassa äiti kurottaa siepatun itkevän lapsensa perään, ja Jansson on muutamalla tussinvedolla luonut mahtavan aallokon, jossa pieni alus on selvästi merihädädssä. Tallissa on iso näyttely Aino Louhen kuvituksia- Ne ovat kauniita, seesteisiä.

Haihara Art Center is at its best on a sunny summer day- With its old buildings and a lush green dormant yard. An exhibition of fairy-tale illustrations in the main building fits finely with the surroundings. The newer illustrations are tender, pastel-coloured and cute - like Katri Kirkkopelto's Molli monster. But the older black and white illustrations by Rudolf Koivu and Tove Jansson are quite scary. In the picture by Koivu a mother is reaching after her captured crying child, and Jansson has created mighty waves with a few ink lines and a small vessel is clearly in distress. In Talli building there is a large exhibition of Aino Louhi's illustrations. They are beautiful and serene.
