Hannu Ojala´s (b. 1939) woodcuts in Gallery Leonardo make me smile broadly. At times the subjects are humorous: strange animals (Power Insect?) or odd machines (Cropper?). Some of the woodcuts are more traditional: landscapes or buildings. But the technique is masterly, colours are broken and the pulling of many colours on one woodcut is quite breathtakingly beautiful. The smile is rising to your face because of the technical level of the works and also because of the thrilling subjects and their interpretation.
