YLÄPUOLELLA AVARUUS / VASTNESS ABOVE

Pastellitausta ilmestyi tähän linopiirrosten taakse violettina: alareunassa punaisempaa ja ylhäällä sinisempänä. Muutama tähtikin syttyi ylös. Iso hopeanharmaa naurava kuu on linopiirros, ja samoin jänikset. Alareunassa pilkottaa pala syksyisiä peltoja. Tämän sekatekniikan koko on 34 x 24,5 cm ja nimensä se sai Väinö Kirstinän runosta: "Alla syvä maa, yläpuolella avaruus".

The pastel background appeared behind the linocuts in purple: redder at the bottom and bluer at the top. A few stars also lit up. The big silver-gray laughing moon is a linocut, and so are the hares. A piece of autumnal fields is visible at the bottom. The size of this mixed media is 34 x 24.5 cm and it got its name from Väinö Kirstinä's poem: "Deep Earth Below, Vastness Above".

TILAA TAIVAHALLA / SPACE IN THE SKY

Tein pehmeillä pastelleilla taustan tähän kuvaan, jossa on yhdessä useita linopiirroksia : kuumailmapallo ja kolme lentävää jänistä. Väritin kuumailmapallon käsin. Taustasta tuli aika kesäinen ja kevyt, hiukan violettia ja keltaista pilvenhattaroissa. Kuvan koko 0n 31 x 24 cm. Nimensä tämä sekatekniikkatyö sai Aaro Hellaakosken runosta: " On tilaa taivahalla, on ääntä yllä, alla".

I used soft pastels to create the background for this picture, which combines several linocuts: a hot air balloon and three flying rabbits. I hand-colored the hot air balloon. The background turned out to be quite summery and light, with a bit of purple and yellow in the cotton candy clouds. The size of the picture is 31 x 24 cm. This mixed media work got its name from Aaro Hellaakoski's poem: "There Is Space In the Sky, There Is Sound Above, Below".

LAULU KESÄLLE / SONG FOR THE SUMMER

 

Valmis! Tätä munasta kuoriutuvaa kissaa oli kiva tehdä vaihe vaiheelta: alaosan linopiirroksen vedostus kissoineen ja munineen, oranssin linopiirroskuun vedostus mäen taakse, taivaan värittäminen pehmeillä pastelleilla, pienten linopiirrosten vedostus taivaalle (lentäviä jäniksiä ja lintuja) taivaan yläosaan vielä pieniä tähtiä pastelleilla ja tussilla ja viimeisenä vielä hiukan väriä tusseilla munankuoreen. Kuvan koko on 50 x 30 cm ja nimensä se sai Eila Kivikk'ahon runosta: "Laulu kesälle, vahvojen siipien kesälle". Kesäksi tämä työ aikoo matkustaa Pieksämäelle Poleenin naivistinäyttelyyn.

Done! This cat hatching from an egg was fun to make step by step: printing the lower part of the linocut with the cat and egg, printing the orange linocut moon behind the hill, coloring the sky with soft pastels, printing small linocuts in the sky (flying rabbits and birds), adding small stars in the upper part of the sky with pastels and markers, and finally adding a little color with markers to the eggshell. The size of the picture is 50 x 30 cm and it got its name from Eila Kivikk'aho's poem: "Song for the summer, for the summer of strong wings". This work will travel to Pieksämäki for the Poleeni naive art exhibition for the summer.

HEI, ME LENNETÄÄN! / LET'S FLY! : 6

 

Vedostin pienet linopiirrokset lentävistä jäniksistä ja linnuista munasta kuoriutuvan kissan ylle, linnut alemmas punaiselle taivaalle ja jänikset ylös siniselle taivaalle. Oranssi kuun laskee tai nousee, en osaa päättää. Enkä osaa päättää, tarvitseeko tuo linnunmuna väriä ollenkaan. Yleensä olen nuo munat värittänyt, mutta tämä näyttää aika hyvältä noinkin, valoiselta.

I printed little linocuts of flying rabbits and birds over a cat hatching from an egg, the birds lower into the red sky and the rabbits up into the blue sky. The orange moon is setting or rising, I can't decide. And I can't decide if that bird's egg needs any color at all. I usually color those eggs, but this one looks pretty good that way, bright.

LINOT TAIVAALLE / LINOCUTS TO THE SKY : 5

 

Nyt taitaa pastellitaivas olla tarpeeksi sininen ja punainen ja välissä on pilvenhattaroita. Asettelin pienet linopiirrokset taivaalle, ja voi vielä korjailla taivasta niiden ympärillä linopiirroksien koon mukaisiksi.

Now I think the pastel sky is blue and red enough and there are wisps of clouds in between. I placed the small linocuts on the sky, and I can still adjust the sky around them to match the size of the linocuts of hares and birds-

PUNAISTA / RED : 4

Taivas munasta kuoriutuvan kissan yllä sai lisää väriä, aika tummaa punaistakin. Taivaalla olevat vaaleammat kohdat on varattu pienille linopiirroksille lentävistä jäniksistä ja linnuista. Vedostan ne vasta kun taivas on tarpeeksi punainen.

The sky above the cat hatching from the egg got more color, quite dark red. The lighter areas in the sky are reserved for small linocuts of flying rabbits and birds. I will only print them when the sky is red enough.

PASTELLITAIVAS / PASTEL SKY : 3

 

Jätin pienille linopiirroksille tyhjät tilat asetteluni perusteella ja vedostan ne vasta kun pastellitaivas on valmis. Olen huomannut, että näiden pienien linojen printtaaminen on helpompaa valmiille pastellipohjalle - ei tarvitse taivasta värittäessä varoa vedostettuja kuvia. Tulevien linojänisten ja -lintujen muodot pitää kuitenkin muistaa pehmentää tai sumentaa.

I left empty spaces for the small linocuts based on my layout and will print them when the pastel sky is ready. I have noticed that it is easier to print these small lino on a finished pastel base - you don't have to be careful of the proofed images when coloring the sky. However, you have to remember to soften or blur the shapes of the future lino rabbits and birds.

JÄNIKSIÄ JA LINTUJA : 2

 

Munasta kuoriutuvan kissan yläpuolelle yötaivaalle ilmestyi nyt joukko linopiirroksia: lentäviä jäniksiä ja lintuja. Asettelin pienet linot niin, että ne ovat siinä muodossa, jossa ne vedostettuina tulevat olemaankin eli ylösalaisin.

Above the cat hatching from the egg, a series of linocuts now appeared in the night sky: flying rabbits and birds. I arranged the small linocuts so that they are in the form in which they will be printed, i.e. upside down.
