Englantilainen Mary Fedden (1915-2012) maalasi naivistisia asetelmia, maisemia ja eläimiä. Tässä guassimaalauksessa on hienot pastellisävyt. Ikkunan takana kelmeä kuu paistaa rannikolle, jossa harmaa kissan varjo kulkee ohi kuin aave. Rannalla olevat talot on kuvattu yksinkertaisesti mutta kauniisti. Ikkunan edessä istuu ruskeahko kissa verhon päällä pöydällä. Kissa ei ole näkevinäänkään ulkona hiipivää kissaa. Pöydällä on Feddenille tyypillisia pieniä esineitä, maljakko, ehkä kivi, purkiki ja puolikas jotain hedelmää. Kuvassa tapahtuu kaikenlaista, mutta tunnelma ja kompositio ovat silti rauhalliset.

English  Mary Fedden (1915-2012) painted Naïve Art still lifes, landscapes and animals. In this gouache painting there re fine pastel hues. Behind a window a pale moon shines on the beach, where a gray shadow of a cat is passing like a ghost. The houses on the beach are painted simple but beautiful. In front of the window there is sitting a brownish cat on a curtain on the table. The cat is like not seeing at all the other cat creeping outside. On the table there are small objects typical for Fedden, a vase, perhaps a stone, jar and half of a fruit. There are so many things happening in the picture, but the atmosphere and composition are still peaceful.

Kissa on ehkä väijynyt hiirtä tuolin alla piilossa. Nyt hiiri livahtaa pitkin lattiaa, mutta ei musta kissa näytä kovin vaaralliselta. Ehkä se haluaisi vain hiukan leikkiä. Kuva on Mary Feddenin (1915-2012) A Cat and Mouse beneath an Orange Chair (Kissa ja hiiri oranssin tuolin alla), pastelli ja guassi vuodelta 1991. Värit ovat herkulliset, oranssi tuoli, mustaa, harmaata ja ruskea hiiri.

The cat has perhaps been stalking the mouse hidden under a chair. Now the mouse sneaks over the floor, but the black cat is not looking very dangerous. Maybe she only wants to play a little. The picture is Mary Fedden's  (1915-2012) A Cat and Mouse beneath an Orange Chair, pastel and gouache from 1991. The colours are delicious, the orange chair, black, gray and the brown mouse.

Englantilaisen Mary Feddenin (1915-2012) öljymaalauksen nimi on Tabby. KIssa on kaapin päällä kotoisen tuntuisesti, mutta muut asiat kuvassa ovatkin hiukan surrealistisia. Takana on maisema rannalta. Vai onko kuva rannasta vain tapetti? Hyllyillä on monenlaisia herkullisen värisiä hedelmiä, eikä perspektiivistä ole tietoakaan.

Olen vuosien aikana kerännyt aikamoisen määrän kissakortteja. Museoiden kaupat ovat oikeita aarreaittoja kissakorttien kerääjälle. Useat korteistani ovat taidekortteja.

English Mary Fedden's  (1915-2012)  oil painting is called Tabby. The cat is on the cupboard seeming homely, but the other things in this picture are a bit surrealistic.In the background there is a scene of a coast. Or is the picture of the beach only a wall paper? On the shelves there are many deliciously coloured fruits, and there no inkling of a perspective.

I have collected quite a large number of cat cards over decades. Museum shops are treasure-troves for a cat card collector. Several of my cat cads are art cards.

Englantilaisen Mary Feddenin (1915-2012) öljymaalauksen nimi on osuvasti Sleeping Cat / Nukkuva kissa. Kortissa perspektiivi on hauskasti vinksallaan. Kissa tuntuu melkein liukuvan unissaan alas pöydän pinnalta. Valkoinen unikko on paisunut unenomaisesti valtavaksi. Viinirypäleet ja sitruuna leijuvat ilmassa. Kissan turkin ja koko kuvan pehmeät ruskeat sävyt ovat herkullisia. Katsoja haluaisi kietoutua hartiahuiviin, istua tuolille ja lukea ehkä kirjaa.

The name of this oil painting by English Mary Fedden (1915-2012) is aptly Sleeping Cat. In this card everything is in a fun wonky angle. The cat seems to be almost sliding over the edge of the table in it´s sleep. The white poppy has puffed up enormously like in a dream. The grapes and a lemon are floating in the air. The fur of the cat and all the brown hues in the picture are delicious. The viewer would like to wrap the shawl around his/hers shoulders and perhaps read a book.
