LONTOOSSA RIITTÄÄ NÄYTTELYITÄ / LONDON IS FULL OF EXHIBITIONS

Johannes Vermeer

Muutamassa päivässä ehtii käydä vain osassa Lontoon sadoista taidenäyttelyistä. Tässä niistä muutama pienempi.

The National Galleryn intiimissä näyttelyssä "Vermeer & Music" on Johannes Vermeerin (1632-1675) maalauksen lisäksi 1600-luvun soittimia ja muutamia Vermeerin aikalaisten töitä sekä tarkkoja selostuksia Vermeerin maalausten tekotavoista. Kun sattuu paikalle sopivaan aikaan, kuulee vielä konsertinkin 1600-luvun musiikkia sen ajan soittimilla esitettynä. Vermeerin teoksia on aika mahdoton erottaa samanaikaisten taiteilijoiden töistä. Vermeeriä on kopioitu ja väärennetty, eikä liene ihan varmaa, ovatko tässäkään näyttelyssä kaikki Vermeerit varmasti aitoja. Useassa hänen maalauksessa naisilla on aika amatöörimäisesti tehdyt pyöreät ja ilmeettömät kasvot; voiko tekijä olla sama kuin helmikoristeisen korvakorun tekijä?

National Portrait Galleryn tämänvuotisessa BP:n muotokuvakilpailussa hämmästyttää viime vuoden tapaan edelleen tekijöiden innostus hyperrealistiseen kasvojen tulkintaan. Jokainen ihohuokonen, ihokarva ja hikipisara varmasti näkyvät.

The Photographer´s Gallery oli muuttanut uusiin avariin tiloihin ja näyttely "Mass Observation: This is Your Photo" olikin iso otos MO:n arkistoista. Mo perustettiin vuonna

John Hinde

1937 ja sen valokuvaajien tavoite oli taltioida ihmisten tavallista arkipäivää. John Hinde (1916-1997) oli varmaan näistä MO:n kuvaajista arvostetuin ja kuvat sirkuksesta ja matkailumaisemista olivat upeita, värit olivat melkein satumaisia. Myös Julian Trevelyanin (1910-1988) valokuvat Boltonista ja Humphrey Spenderin (1910-2005) valokuvat lomailevista ja työtä tekevistä tavallisista ihmisistä koskettivat.




I spend a couple of days in London, but managed to visit only a few of hundreds of art exhibitions. These are some of the smaller ones.

In The National Gallery´s intimate exhibition "Vermeer & Music" there are Johannes Vermeer´s (1632-1675) paintings and detailed descriptions of his painting techniques along the paintings of his contemporaries and music instruments of the 1600`s. If you happen to be there at a right time, you can even listen to a small concert played with the old instruments of 1600`s. It is almost impossible to separate Vermeer´s paintings from the paintings of his contemporaries. Vermeer has been copied and forged a lot, and is it quite sure that all the Vermeers in this exhibition are really real. In many of his paintings the women have small, round, still and amateurishly painted faces; could the artist be the same that painted The Girl with a Pearl Earring?

In National Portrait Gallery´s BP:s Portrait Award Competition´s exhibition this year you can be surprised of competitors enthusiasm for portraying faces with an extreme hyper realism. Every pore, hair and drop of sweat are really visible.

Humphrey Spender

The Photographer´s Gallery has moved to new bigger spaces and the exhibition "Mass Observation: This is Your Photo" was also a large part of MO:s archives. Mo was founded in 1937 and the aim of it´s photographers has been to capture the everyday lives of the ordinary people. John Hinde (1916-1997) is perhaps the most valued of these MO´s photographer´s and his pictures of a circus and travels & landscapes are gorgeous, the colours are almost magical. Also Julian Trevelyan (1910-1988)´s photos of Bolton and Humphrey Spender (1910-2005)´s  photographs of the common people on vacation and working were touching.
