You can admire naïve art in Iittala´s old school building in three floors already the 25th time. The artists are almost the same than in the last years. But the naïve art makes always makes me feel good. Now especially the women naïvists delighted.

Then I stumbled over two walls of Kati Mikola´s (b. 1961) fantastic paintings. Bears, foxes and hares busy themselves with human chores. The colours in these paintings were somehow mysterious and the feeling very unreal. The painting style was very professional and skilfull, but Mikola has a "real" art education in opposition to many naïve artists who are self-taught and perhaps technically a bit modest. The inspiration for these animal pistures comes from Finnish folk tales. Mikola specializes also to portrait painting.

Women took my attention with their subjects: cats, other animals, milk jugs, buildings and nature, and there was even salt reliefs, embroidery and self made funny frames. Men were more traditional and the subjects seemed to emphasize on amusing, fat naked swimmers and cartoons. But Eino Viikilä´s (b. 1954) colourful woodcuts and a ceramic moped made me smile.
