RAFAEL WARDI - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

Suomen pimeää talvea valaisee Ateneumin taidemuseossa Helsingissä Rafael Wardin (s. 1928) värikäs retrospektiivi. Mukana on alkukauden isoja öljyvärejä, joita on katsottava aika kaukaa, jotta muodot hahmottuvat: kaupunkinäkymiä, henkilöitä ikkunoiden edessä tai toreilla. Asetelmissa ja abstraktisissa töissä värit pääsevät pääosaan. Wardin keltainen ja punainen ovat tosi vahvoja. Mieleen tulee Henri Matisse. Uusimmissa pastellitöissä keltainen ja musta ovat todella intensiivisiä. Pastelleissa Wardin värienkäsittely hehkuu lämpöä. 

Rafael Wardi´s (b. 1928) colourful retrospective in Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki lights up the dark winter of Finland. There are several early oil paintings, which you have to look at from afar so that the shapes start to form: city scenes, figures at windows and in the market places. In the still life and abstract paintings the colours get the main part. Wardi´s yellow and red are really strong. Large, bright colour areas remind me of Henri Matisse. In the newer pastel drawings yellow and black are really intensive. In the pastels Ward´s colour processing glows in the heat.
