ELINA MERENMIES - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

Galleria Anhavassa Helsingissä on koskettava näyttely Elina Merenmiehen (s. 1967) taidetta. Suurin osa 45:stä teoksesta on isohkoja mustepiirroksia useimmiten käsintehdylle paperille. Piirroksissa ihmisten kasvonpiirteet on peitetty kuin huntuun. Vaikutelma on aika rujo, synkkä, salaperäinen, unenomainen, pelottavakin. Huumoria näissä kuvissa ei ole. Tempera- ja öljymaalaukset vetosivat minuun enemmän. Ne ovat parhaimmillaan tosi isoja, melkein seinänkokoisia. Synkkiähän nämäkin ovat, pimeitä metsiä, tiheikköjä ja risukkoja. Mutta mukana on myös värejä, valon kajastusta ja kirjavia lintuhahmoja. Näihin maisemiin voi upota, astua sisään ja nähdä aina uusia yksityiskohtia. Isointa "Näkylaakso"-nimistä työtä Merenmies on esitteen mukaan tehnyt kolme vuotta: 2010-2013. Ja hienoa on nähdä, että taidetta vielä ostetaankin! Melkein kaikki näyttelyn työt oli myyty. Rahaa siinä liikkuu satoja tuhansia euroja.

Elina Merenmies (b. 1967) presents her art works in Gallery Anhava in Helsinki. Most of the 45 works are ink drawings usually on handmade paper. In these drawings the faces are covered like in a veil. The appearance is quite crippled, grim, mysterious, dreamlike, even scary. There is not any humour in these pictures. The tempera and oil paintings affected me more. These are at their best really big, almost wall-sized. Of course they are gloomy, dark forest and thickets. But there is also a lot of colour, hint of light and bright birds. You can sink into these paintings, step inside, and see countless new details. According to the brochure Merenmies has been paintings the biggest picture "Valley of Vision" three years: 2010-2013. And it´s fine to see that there is still people buying art! Almost all the works in this exhibition are sold. There is a few hundred thousand euros moving here.
