TYRVÄÄN KIVIKIRKKO / TYRVÄÄ STONE CHURCH

Osmo Rauhala

Sastamalassa on Suomen vanhimpia ja samalla moderneimpia kivikirkkoja: Tyrvään Pyhän Olavin kirkko. Kirkko rakennettiin 1500-luvun alussa, tuhopoltettiin vuonna 1977, mutta paanukatto sekä sisustus rakennettiin uudelleen talkootyönä. Upeinta uudessa sisätilassa ovat Kuutti Lavosen (s. 1960) ja Osmo Rauhalan (s. 1957) kirkkomaalaukset. Yhteensä maalauksia on 101 ja ne ovat valmistuneet vuonna 2009. Kuutti Lavosen maalaukset kiertävät kirkkoa lehterien reunoilla. Osmo Rauhalan maalaukset ovat alttarilla ja saarnastuolissa. Erilaisempia lähestymistapoja Raamatun kuvittamiselle ei oikein voi olla kuin näiden kahden taiteilijan näkemykset. Lavosen töissä Raamatun henkilöt tai enkelit

on kuvattu perinteissä kohtauksissa. Värit ovat väkeviä, tuska tuntuu ja näyttää kuin maalaukset valuisivat verta.  Rauhalan maalausten pastellivärit, hennot linnut ja kasvit sekä viisas silmä ja herkät muodot yllättävät. Näistä minä pidin. Rauhalan maalausten turkoosia väriä on käytetty myös puuosien, penkkien ja saarnastolin värinä - aika odottamaton väri kirkossa.

In Sastamala there is one of Finland´s oldest and at the same time most modern stone churches: Tyrvää St. Olav´s Church. The church was built in the beginning of the 1500´s, destructively burned in 1977, but the wooden inside and also the wooden shingle roof were built again by the volunteers of the community. Most beautiful are the church paintings by Kuutti Lavonen (b. 1960) and Osmo Rauhala (b. 1957). In total there are 101 paintings completed in 2009. Kuutti

Kuutti Lavonen

Lavonen´s paintings circle the church in the sides of the gallery. Osmo Rauhala´s paintings are in the altar and the pulpit. The views of the Bible could not be more different than the approaches of these two artists. In Lavonen´s paintings the figures of the Bible and the angels are in their traditional scenes. The colours are powerful, you can feel the pain and it seems as if blood would trickle from  the paintings. In Rauhala´s paintings the pastel colours, delicate birds and flowers, a gentle eye and soft shapes are surprising. These I liked. The turquoise colour of the Rauhala´s paintings has been used also in the paint of wooden parts, benches and pulpit, quite an unexpected and modern solution  in a church.
