MIKS KIROTA JA SOUTAA / WHY CURSE AND ROW

 

Pöllämystynyt kissa kuoriutuu hämmästyksekseen linnunmunasta. Mutta eivät ihmeet siihen lopu. Taivaalla vilistävät lentävät jänikset ja kissa. Lisäsin taivaan täyteen tähtiä kuun seuraksi, vaikka taivas näyttääkin oikeastaan olevan pilvinen. Mutta kaikki on mahdollista! Tämä sekatekniikkatyö, linopiirroksia ja pastellitaivas sai nimensä Lauri Viidan runosta: "Miks kirota ja soutaa, kun kuutamoa ja poutaa voi koukuittakin noutaa". Kuvan koko on 50 x 30 cm.

A surprised cat hatches from a bird's egg. But the wonders don't end there. Flying rabbits and a cat whizz in the sky. I added stars to the sky to accompany the moon, even though the sky actually looks cloudy. But anything is possible! This mixed media work, linocuts and pastel sky got its name from Lauri Viita's poem: "Why curse and row, when moonlight and rain can be picked up without a hook". The size of the picture is 50 x 30 cm.

JÄNISTEN TAIVAS / THE SKY OF RABBITS : 5

 

Kissan ja jänisten taakse taivaalle tuli aika pilvinen näkymä, sinistä ja violettia. Kuu alkoi hehkua keltaista ja linnunmunasta kuoriutuva kissa kurkkii tapahtumaa ihmeissään. Kuvan alaosa, kuu, jänikset ja kissa ovat linopiirroksia. Taivas on pehmeää pastelliväriä.

Behind the cat and the rabbits, the sky became quite cloudy, blue and purple. The moon began to glow yellow and the cat, hatching from a bird's egg, peered at the event in wonder. The lower part of the picture, the moon, the rabbits and the cat, are linocuts. The sky is a soft pastel color.

Haasteet tämän sekatekniikkatyön kanssa jatkuvat kuunkin jälkeen. Olin asetellut pienet linopiirrokset taivaalle niin, että kuvapuoli on ylöspäin (alempi kuva). Sehän on päinvastoin kuin linopiirrosta vedostaessa. Aina pitäisi muistaa suunnitella linopiirrokset ylösalaisin. Asettelu meni siis uusiksi. Nyt kissa loikkaa kuunyli ja jänikset ovat vasemmalla laidalla. Osa linopiirroksista menee yli reunuksen ja taivaan. Laitoin sapluunan ja aloitin pastellitaivaan, sinistä ja violettia.

The challenges with this mixed media work continue even after the moon. I had placed the small linocuts on the sky with the image side facing up (picture below). That's the opposite of when printing a linocut. You should always remember to plan your linocuts upside down. So the layout was redone. Now the cat is jumping over the moon and the rabbits are on the left side. Some of the linocuts go over the border and the sky. I put a stencil on and started with a pastel sky, blue and purple.

Keltainen kuu peittää nyt epäonnistuneen jänisvedoksen. Viimeisin kerros kuussa on linopiirros kuusta kraattereineen ja sen alla on pastellia ja se onneton jänis. Haasteet ovat hauskoja. Eiköhän tällä jatketa!

The yellow moon now covers the failed hare print. The last layer on the moon is a linocut of the moon with craters and underneath it is pastel and that unfortunate hare. Challenges are fun. I think I will continue from here!

Vedostaessani sekatekniikkatyöhöni pientä linopiirrosta jäniksestä se epäonnistui! Olin levittänyt liikaa väriä linopiirrokseen ja vedostaessa siitä tuli ihan sotkuinen (alempi kuva). Mitä tehdä? Heittää koko työ roskiin  ja aloittaa alusta vai keksisinkö jotain? Tein sapluunan, jossa on linopiirroskuun kokoinen pyöreä aukko. Väritin aluksi jäniksen päälle suunnittelemani kuun pastelliväreillä harmaaksi ja punertavaksi. Jäniksen hahmon voi vieläkin erottaa kuusta.

When I was printing a small linocut of a hare for my mixed media work, it failed! I had applied too much color to the linocut and when printing it, it became quite messy (picture below). What should I do? Throw the whole work in the trash and start over or should I come up with something? I made a stencil with a round hole the size of the linocut moon. I first colored the moon I had designed on top of the hare in gray and reddish pastel colors. You can still distinguish the hare's figure on the moon.

Uusi sekatekniikkatyö munasta kuoriutuvasta kissasta on taas suunnitteilla. Tässä 50 x 30 cm kokoisessa kuvassa ilmassa lentää yksi kissa ja kolme jänistä. Asettelin niiden linopiirroksia jo vedostetun munakissa ylle. Varmaan on taivaalle tulossa myös kuu.

A new mixed media work of a cat hatching from an egg is in the works again. In this 50 x 30 cm image, one cat and three rabbits are flying in the air. I placed their linocuts on top of the already-printed egg cat. The moon is probably also coming into the sky

TOTUUS ON HARHAA / TRUTH IS AN ILLUSION

 

Munakissa on valmis. Kissa kuorituu hämmästyneenä munasta. Väritin  linnunmunan keltaiseksi. Taivaalla möllöttää iro oranssi kuu ja ohi lentää iso parvi pieniä lintuja, jotkut valkoisia ja keltainenkin. Alhaalla taivaanrannassa loistaa yksi iso tähti. Taivas on  pehmeää pstellia, kaikkki muu on linopiirroksia. Kuvan koko on 50 x 30 cm. Nimensä se sai Juice Leskisen kappaleesta Skitsofrenia: "Totuus on harhaa, vain  harha on totta".

The egg cat is ready. The surpriced cat hatches from the egg. I colored the bird's egg yellow. A bright orange moon is blazing in the sky and a large flock of small birds, some white and even yellow, are flying by. One big star shines down on the horizon. The sky is soft pastel, everything else is linocuts. The size of the picture is 50 x 30 cm. It got its name from Juice Leskinen's song Schizofrenia: "Truth is an illusion, only an illusion is true".

LINTUJA TAIVAALLE / BIRDS IN THE SKY

Asettelin jo muutamia linopiirroksia pienistä linnuista pastellitaivaalle. ehkä vielä jokunen lisää tarvitaan. Mutta en halua peittää tuota taivaan sineä kokonaan linnuilla. Pidän tuosta sinisen taivaan tunnelmasta, samalla uhkaava ja heleä.

I already placed a few linocuts of small birds on the pastel sky. Maybe a few more are needed. But I don't want to cover that blue sky completely with birds. I like that atmosphere of the blue sky, threatening and bright at the same time.
 

SININEN TAIVAS / BLUE SKY

Munakissan yllä on nyt sininen taivas, pehmeää pastellia. Taivaanrannalla on häivähdys tummaa punaista ja tummempaa sinistä taivasta. Kuun ympärillä hehkuu keltainen valo.

The sky above the egg cat is now blue, soft pastel. In the horizon there is a hint of dark red and darker blue. A yellow light glows around the moon.

Munakissa peittyy reunapahvin alle, jolla yritän olla suttaamatta kuvan reunoja. Mutta taivaalla on nyt iso ornssinvärinen linopiirros kuusta.

The egg cat is hidden under the cardboard border, which I use to try not to blur the edges of the picture. But in the sky there is now a large orange-colored linocut of the moon.
