Japanilaisen taiteilijan Katsuhisa Todan (s. 1954) vesivärimaalauksessa "Lukeva kissa" on rauhallinen tunnelma. Värien sävyt ovat taitettuja, pensaan ja ruohikon vihreää, penkin kulunutta ruskehtavaa puuta ja kiveykseen harmaata. Maalauksen kuviot ovat harkittuja, vinot kivet ja penkin vaaka- ja pystysuorat viivat. Penkin ja käsinojan varjotkin lisäävät kuvaan rauhallisuutta. Ja musta kissa on syventynyt lukemaan kirjaa. Onko se kissan oma kirja, vai onko joku penkillä kirjaa lukenut sen pudottanut?

The color tones are muted, the green of the bush and grass, the worn brownish wood of the bench, and the gray of the stone. The patterns in the painting are thoughtful, the slanted stones and the horizontal and vertical lines of the bench. The shadows of the bench and armrest also add to the peacefulness of the picture. And the black cat is engrossed in reading a book. Is it the cat's own book or did someone reading a book on the bench drop it?
