English Richard Hamilton´s (1922-2011) extensive art exhibition is in Tate Modern in London. His great ideal was Marcel Duchamp and you can see that clearly. During his long career Hamilton seems to have been fascinated by all the modern gadgets and machines: toaster, vacuum cleaner, television, radio, chairs, telephone and cars. But Hamilton was not only a pop artist. He was interested in architecture, buildings, interiors, perspective and people and mirrors in different spaces. The famous collage "Just What Is It that Makes Today's Homes So Different, So Appealing?" from the 1950´s was surprisingly small. Hamilton was also intrigued about celebrities and politicians. You can compare the series of Mick Jagger on the back seat of a car with Andy Warhol´s pictures of Jagger. Tony Blair as a cowboy reflects finely the stage where Hamilton participates in the political issues. Behind many of the works there was a postcard of a picture from a magazine. One room was dedicated to Shit & Flowers. Hamilton had a few French postcard about people shitting by picturesque wood lanes after drinking Eaux de Miers, a local laxative. The same position is repeated in the squatting posture of the photo models. The subjects are really varied and the exhibition has been put together finely by the themes. One wall is full of "self portraits" or actually Polaroid pictures of Hamilton taken by artists that Hamilton met. Even this idea is quite near Andy Warhol and his videos of Factory visitors.
