Mon 0ncle (Setäni) on Jan Baletin (1913-2009) kuvan nimi. Aika on ehkä 1900-luvun alkua ja tilanne on jäykkä. Setä istuu penkillä kahden naissukulaisensa kanssa ja tarjoilija kahvikannuineen on penkin takana. Tunnelma on kuin kauhuelokuvasta naisten mustine silmäkuoppineen. Ovatkohan nuo kaksi kissoiksi luulemaani eläintäkin koiria? Vihreä tausta on muhkea ja pehmeä, mutta sinnekin voi piiloutua vaikka mitä mörköjä.

Jan Balet's (1913-2009) picture is called Mon oncle (My Uncle). The time is perhaps the beginning of the 1900's and the situation is stiff. The uncle is sitting on the bench with his two female relatives, and the servant is behind the bench with the coffee pot. The atmosphere is like in a horror movie with the black hollow eyes of the women. And are the two animals actually dogs and not even cats? The green background is soft and rich, but there might be lurking all kinds of ghosts.

Tässä saksalaisen naivistin Jan Baletin (1913-2009) maalauksessa Créme Chantilly joukko tummasilmäisiä ihmisiä katsoo jäykästi eteenpäin. Parhaat vaatteet on puettu päälle, mukana on kukkia - ehkä hääpari. Ja kaikkien eteen on tuotu kissa, kenties siamilainen. Kuvan pastellisävyissä on jotain satumaista kuninkaanlinnoineen. Sininen taivas heiljastuu jokeen eikä taivaalla ole kuin pari kevyttä pilveä.

Olen vuosien aikana kerännyt aikamoisen määrän kissakortteja. Museoiden kaupat ovat oikeita aarreaittoja kissakorttien kerääjälle. Useat korteistani ovat taidekortteja.

A group of dark-eyed people are looking rigidly ahead in this German naïve artist  Jan Balet's (1913-2009) painting. They are wearing their best clothes, there are flowers - perhaps a bride and groom. And they have brought a cat in front of everybody - perhaps a Siamese cat. There is something like a fairy tale in the pastel colours and royal castle in the painting. The blue sky is reflecting in the river, and there are only a few light clouds in the sky.

I have collected quite a large number of cat cards over decades. Museum shops are treasure-troves for a cat card collector. Several of my cat cads are art cards.
