GEORGIA O'KEEFFE - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

Georgia O'Keeffen (1887-1986) näyttely Lontoon Tate Modernissa on loistava! Näyttely on kronologinen, varhaisista koloristisista ja abstraktisista maalauksista, New Yorkin pilvenpiirtäjistä, kukkakuvista, New Mexicon maisemista ja eläinten pääkalloista alkuperäiskansojen kachina-nukkien kautta viimeisimpiin abstrakteihin taivaanrantoihin. Täydellinen ja rehellinen kuva täydellisen ja hienon naisen koko urasta! Pilvenpiirtäjän pyöreä keltainen ikkuna loistaa pimeässä illassa kuin suuri silmä. New Mexicon valtavat vaaleanpunaiset rinteet ovat meheviä kuin raaka liha. Taivaanranta kaikkoaa etäisyyteen kuin lentokoneesta nähtynä.

Tate Modernin uusi sivurakennus Switchissä on heino näköalatasanne, valtavia käytävätiloja ja osallistavaa taidetta. Siellä voi väsynyt taidematkaaja leputtaa jalkojaan jopa taideteoksen sisällä.

Näyttelyssä näin myös Patti Smithin hienon runon O'Keeffestä. / A Poem by Patti Smith.

what she do now
go and beat the desert

go and beat the desert

**************
Georgia O'Keeffe's (1887-1986) exhibition in Tate Modern in London is brilliant! This exhibition does really not concentrate only on her flower paintings seen erotic, but her whole career. O'Keeffe herself didn't underline her famous flower paintings as vaginal symbols, and she was even somewhat upset when her partner Alfred Stieglitz emphasized the erotic image of her painting in order to get financial success. The exhibition is chronological, from the early colorist, abstract paintings, New York skyscrapers, flower pictures, New Mexico landscapes and animal skulls via Native American kachina dolls to the last abstract skyscapes. A perfect and honest perspective to the whole life of a perfect and brave woman! A round yellow window of a skyscraper glows in the dark night like a large eye. The pink hills of New Mexico are succulent like some raw meat. The skyscape is vanishing to the eternity like seen from a plane.

In Tate Modern's new Switch extension there is a fabulous observation deck, vast stairs and foyers, and art encouraging to participate. The weary art traveler can rest her feet even inside an art work.

GEORGIA O´KEEFFE

Georgia O´Keeffe - art exhibition

In Tennispalatsi, Helsinki there is an interesting exhibition about the life and art of Georgia O´Keeffe (1887-1986). There are photographs, objects, and a good video about the New Mexican ranches and landscapes that were the subjects of O´Keeffe`s paintings.

The subjects are often flowers and landscapes. It´s very typical that there is in the middle of the painting a vertical line: callas, canjonies and shapes of buildings. These shapes were interpreted at the beginning of 1900´s  to be very sexual, perhaps inspired by Freud´s doctrines. O´Keeffe denied these interpretations and stated, that people can see in her paintings whatever they liked. She just took the subjects to her paintings from  her own enviroment, from the nature and its shapes. The white and black canjon landscapes and different plants and flowers of the nature were expecially important to her.

O´Keeffe was married to the photographer Alfred Stieglitz and she was also interested in  photography, that´s why you can see influence of photography in many of her works. The fine, especially dark colours and organic shapes are ageless and in the same time they reflect the art forms of the beginning of 1900´s.
