IITTALAN ILOA: 1 / JOYS OF IITTALA: 1

Naivistit Iittalassa -näyttely järjestetään ensi kesänä 19.5.-19.8.2018 jo kolmattakymmenettä kertaa. Innoissani olen mukana itse jo viidettä kesää. Päähän pälkähti juhlistaa asiaa linoleikkauksella Iittalan vanhasta puukoulusta, jossa naivistinäyttelyt on pidetty. Mielessäni talo avautui kuin pahvilaatikko, sillä halusin saada kuvaan mukaan kaikki talon kauniit ja erilaiset sivut. Käytän tässä työssä japanilaista vinyylilevyä, jonka koko on 40 x 30 cm. Levy on kaksipuolinen, toinen puoli on sininen ja toinen vihreä. Kokemukseni mukaan eri puolilla ei ole mitään eroa kaiverrettaessa. Mutta molemmat värit ovat sen verran tummia,ettei pehmeällä lyijykynällä piirretyn kuvan siirto leivinpaperilta onnistu. Maalasinkin pohjan akryylivärillä keltaiseksi, ja sain luonnoksen siirtymään kaiverruspohjalle pääpiirteissään. Aloitin kaivertamisen kuvan keskeltä, jossa on taidenäyttelytilaa, ihmisiä, koiria, ovi ja portaat yläkertaan.

Naïve Artists in Iiittala exhibition will be organized already for 30th time next summer 2018 from 19th of May till 19th of August. I´m excited to be in the exhibition for the fifth time. I got an idea to celebrate the occasion with a linocut of the old school building of Iittala where the Naïve exhibition have been held. In my mind the building opened up like a cardboard box, because I wanted to have along all the different and beautiful sides of the building. I use in this work a sheet Japanese vinyl, sized 40 x 30 cm. The plate is double sided, the other side is blue and the other green. Both sides are similar when carving. But both sides are so dark, that transferring the image drawn with soft pencil on a piece of baking paper will not succeed. That´s why I painted the vinyl plate yellow with acryl colour, and I managed to transfer the outlines of the image to the plate. I started carving in the middle of the picture where there are the exhibition area, people, dogs, door and the stairs upstairs.
