Nuo kissansilmät! Silmät katsovat sydäntäsärkevän syyttävästi tai anovasti. Kissa on osa isompaa maalausta: "Poika ja tyttö kissan ja ankeriaan kanssa". Taiteilija on Judith Leyster (1609-1660), harvoja hollantilaisia naistaiteilijoita 1600-luvulla. Leysteriltä tunnetaan vain noin 25 työtä, muotokuvia, laatukuvia, kukkasia ja eläimiä. Siveltimenvedot ovat hienoja, melkein jokainen kissan karva erottuu ja silmät säihkyvat. Tämä maalaus löytyy Lontoon National Gallerystä, josta tämäkin kortti on joskus ostettu.

Olen vuosien aikana kerännyt aikamoisen määrän kissakortteja. Museoiden kaupat ovat oikeita aarreaittoja kissakorttien kerääjälle. Useat korteistani ovat taidekortteja.

Those cat´s eyes! The eyes watch you heartbreaking accusingly or pleadingly. The cat is a part of a bigger painting: "A Boy and Girl with a Cat and an Eel". The artist is Judith Leyster (1609-1660), one of the few Dutch women painters in the 1600`s. There are only about 25 known works of Leyster, portraits, genre paintings, flowers and animals. The brush strokes are fine, almost every hair of the cat´s coat is visible and the eyes sparkle. This painting is in National Gallery, London, where also this postcard was sometimes bought.

I have collected quite a large number of cat cards over decades. Museum shops are treasure-troves for a cat card collector. Several of my cat cads are art cards.
