Vesiväreillä ja metallliseoksella pahville maalattu kissa on osa isompaa Shashti-maalausta. Shashti tunnetaan Intiassa hedelmällisyyden ja lasten jumalattarena, jonka seurana usein nähdään kissa. Kuvassa näkyvä punainen kangas lienee osa Shashtin viittaa tai hametta. Mustapilkkuinen ja -häntäinen kissa katsoo emäntäänsä valmiina toteuttamaan kaikki jumalattaren toiveet. 1890-luvulla tehdyn kuvan tekijää ei tunneta.

The cat, painted on cardboard with watercolors and metallic paint, is part of a larger Shashti painting. Shashti is known in India as the goddess of fertility and children, and is often accompanied by a cat. The red cloth seen in the picture is probably part of Shashti's cloak or skirt. The black-spotted and -tailed cat looks at its mistress, ready to fulfill all the goddess's wishes. The artist of the picture, made in the 1890s, is unknown.
