TUOMO SAALI - NÄYTTELY / EXHIBITION

 Galleria Saskiassa on Tuomo Saalin (s. 1957) mahtavia öljymaalauksia pilvistä. Nämä eivät ole mitään valokuvien mukaan maalattuja pilviä, vaan tulkintoja tunnetiloista ja tunnelmista hiukan William Turnerin tapaan. Mitä isompia öljymaalaukset, sitä parempia ne ovat. Isojen maalausten edessä tuntee sulautuvansa osaksi kuvaa, ilma on kevyttä ja taivas korkealla. Kuvien pienenpienet ihmishahmot ovat useimmiten selkä katsojaan päin aivan kuvan alareunassa ison meren rannalla, pellon reunalla tai vuoren rinteellä. Pilvien lomasta näkyy joissakin töissä pieni pala sinistä taivasta ihan yläreunassa. Muutamissa töissä on veitsellä tehtyä reliefimäisyyttä. Nämä maalaukset saavat haukkomaan henkeä. Miten monta erilaista variaatiota Saali onkaan luonut pilvistä ja pienistä ihmisistä.

Tuomo Saali's (b. 1957) stunning oil paintings of clouds are now in Gallery Saskia in Tampere. These are not any cloud paintings after photographs, they are interpretations of emotional states and feelings a little bit like William Turner. The bigger the paintings are, the better they are. Standing in front of a big canvas you feel like blending into the picture, the air is light and the sky is high. The tiny human figures are often with their back towards the wiever just at the bottom of the picture on a sea shore, by a field or on a mountain side. Between the clouds there are in some paintings a little piece of clear blue sky just in the upper corner of the picture. In some pictures there is kind of relief effect done with a palette knife. These paintings make you gasp for breath. How many different variations has Saali created of clouds and small people.
