Hämeenlinnan taidemuseossa on mielenkiintoinen näyttely. "Taiteilijatoveruutta" kuvailee neljän naistaiteilijan ystävyyttä ja työskentelyä yhdessä viime vuosisadan lopulla. Taiteilijat ovat Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946), Ada Thilén (1852-1933), Helena Westermarck (1857-1938) ja Maria Wiik (1853-1928). Näyttely tuo hyvin esille sen, miten taloudellisista ja asenteellisista esteistä huolimatta nämäkin naiset opiskelivat sinnikkäästi taidetta, matkustivat ulkomaille ja maalasivat yhdessä ja erikseen. Näyttelyn teokset eivät ehkä ole sitä, mitä odotin. Esillä on iso määrä muoto- ja laatukuvia sekä luonnoksia. Sen näyttely kuitenkin todistaa, että vain yksi taiteilija tässä joukossa kehitti täysin oman persoonallisen tyylinsä - Helene Schjerfbeck. Valitettavasti näyttelyssä on vain muutama Schjerfbeckin loppukauden töistä. Muut naiset jäivät alku-uransa tasolle ja yksi (Helena Westermarck) keskittyi enemmän kirjoittamiseen ja naisasialiikkeeseen. Hauska oli nähdä, miten samasta kukka-asetelmasta eri taiteilijat tekivät omanlaisensa hiukan erilaiset versiot. Minusta näyttelyn paras teos oli ehdottomasti Maria Wiikin "Makaava kissa Mosse".

An interesting exhibition "Fellowship of Artists" in Hämeenlinna Art Museum describes the camaraderie, friendship and working together of four female artists at the end of the 1800`s. The artists are: Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946), Ada Thilén (1852-1933), Helena Westermarck (1857-1938) ja Maria Wiik (1953-1928). The exhibition brings finely forward how these women studied eagerly, traveled abroad and painted despite of the economical and prejudiced obstacles. The paintings in this exhibition were perhaps not quite what I expected. There was a lot of portraits, period pictures and sketches. At least one thing this exhibition makes evident, and that is the thing that only one of these artists developed her own personal style: Helene Schjerfbeck. Unfortunately, there is only a few of Schjerfbecks works from her later career. The other women stayed at the level of their early career and one of them (Helena Westermarck) focused on her writing career and feminism. It was fun to see, how the artists made a little bit different versions of the same flower arrangement. I think that the best painting in this exhibition was definitely Maria Wiiks "Mosse the Lying Cat".
